FEBRUARY 2018
From the Publishers
February is the month of LOVE! It's also the busiest month of season here in Cape Coral.
Spring break starts, the people up north are tired of the cold and snow, and everyone wants to be in Florida. Welcome to paradise!
We lost our beloved dog Blondie in January. She was a great dog, but really deteriorated
quickly over the holidays. I've always believed the only way to get over the loss of a pet
is to get another one, so we immediately started searching for a new puppy that we
could rescue and give a forever home. We were fortunate to connect with friends at
Wolfhounds Legacy, a local non-profit rescue, and we met Valor. Next month, you'll get to meet her as we introduce a new section to the magazine featuring rescued pets each
month. There are way too many pets here in Cape Coral that need forever homes, which
is why the new Cape Coral Animal Shelter will be breaking ground very soon. By the end
of the year, we will have our own no kill animal shelter!
Later this month we will be releasing our 2018 Map-a-palooza, our cartoon map of Cape
Coral. Our 2017 map was a bit hit, so this year's will be bigger and even better. Artist
Mark Herron has been working overtime to create a masterpiece that we know you will
love! Maps will be available FREE at the Chamber of Commerce, the Farmer's Market,
and area businesses around Cape Coral. Be on the lookout soon.
We have two great events coming up that you will want to add to your calendar. Are
you looking to remodel or do renovations at your home? CapeStyle will be sponsoring a
Home Show on April 21st with local vendors on hand to help you with all your needs.
And we will be sponsoring a Health Fair on May 19th with doctors, wellness experts, and
local healthcare vendors. Stay tuned for more details, but save the dates!
Do you wait on pins and needles each month for the current issue of CapeStyle
Magazine? Problem solved! If you would like to receieve an email each month with the newest issue of CapeStyle, you are about to get your wish. Check out our website where
you can sign up to receive the monthly email. Visit CapeStyleMag.com today!
Photos, we LOVE photos! If you are at an event around town, take some pictures and
share them with us. You can upload them right to our Facebook page and website. Are your kids involved in sports? We can showcase them as a Cape Kid with Style. Do you
know a Hometown Hero? We love to feature a Cape Coral hero each month, be it veteran,
police, fire, EMT, or anyone else who you would classify as a hero. Many don't look at
themselves as heroes, but they all deserve recognition for their efforts.
Do YOU have CapeStyle? Be on the lookout for our new "I have CapeStyle" window
stickers. Put one on your car, in your store, anywhere it can be seen so the whole city knows that you have CapeStyle! If you would like to get a "I have CapeStyle" window sticker, just let us know and we will be happy to get you one.
Enjoy the month of love with your loved ones and CapeStyle!

Meet Shannon Ross and
Curtis Sayers with
AR Workshop Cape Coral AR Workshop is new to Cape Coral, not even 6 months old. It is a DIY concept that Curtis Sayers and Shannon Ross have brought to our city. Have you been there yet?
You may know Curtis, a native of Cape Coral. Shannon hails from Northern Ohio. They both traveled in their 20's, but moved back to Cape Coral and began their family here in 2012.
Curtis and Shannon have 2 kids, Samuel (5) attends Oasis Charter School, and Savannah (15 months.) Their family also includes a cat, Sophia.
They love all things DIY (do it yourself), so they researched business opportunities and franchises and discovered AR Workshop. They had just launched last year out of Pineville, NC. Curtis and Shannon loved their concept and their look, and it is an awesome fit for their family and really fun for a young couple to run.
AR Workshop joined the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral and MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) and are excited to be a part of the Cape Coral community. They love how the Cape is really family oriented and that there are so many activities for their family to enjoy together.

QUICK READS By Tony Henkels Devoured – Sophie Egan. All about food, what we eat, why we eat it, how much we eat. A lot of fascinating facts about how we developed
various eating habits like Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Fast foods, Snacks, fruits, vegetables, and on and on. Good trivia info. ♥♥
Consequence: A Memoir – Eric Fair. Author spent time in Iraq as a contract interrogator using “enhanced methods” to make the people
they were interrogating “uncomfortable” & cooperative. He believed this was torture and wrote articles about after he left Iraq.♥♥
Maggie Smith –Michael Coveney. Biography of Maggie Smith – an interesting person but a tedious, slow reading book. Too much detail
about plays, TV, & movies over many years. She is currently still acting in Downtown abbey. ♥
Left of Boom –Doug Laux/Ralph Pezzullo. An interesting look at the life of a CIA agent’s life. It goes into the details both good & bad.
About 10% of the book is redacted (Blacked out) by CIA sensors. Good “real world” accounts of intrigue. ♥♥♥
Yes, My Accent is Real – Kunal Nayyar. Author plays Raj on TV show “The Big Bang Theory.” He was raised in India and tells his life story
with a good deal of humor.
♥♥♥
Brave Enough -Cheryl Strayed. A short easy read of essays and short sayings. I found it pretty insipid & a waste of time.
♥
O Great One – David Novak. A good read to improve your interpersonal & leadership skills. It is all about giving recognition to people for
extraordinary things that they do.
♥♥♥♥
Shoe Dog – Phil Knight. Really good memoir of the founder of NIKE. Well written look at what REALLY happens when you start an
enterprise from scratch. Many great episodes of trials while building NIKE from nothing. ♥♥♥♥♥
By Honor Bound – Tom Norris & Mike Thornton/Dick Couch. The story of two SEALS (Tom & Mike) who received the Medal of Honor for
their service in Vietnam. Vivid description of action in Vietnam.
♥♥♥♥
Bare Bones – Bobby Bones. He has the highest rated Country music radio show in the U.S. This memoir of his life – dirt poor in Arkansas,

BEER
Shiva me timbers… Submitted By Cape Coral Resident & Beer Guy Brendan Stanley
another classic review
Being it’s February, we will make this quick and delicious. Need
to plan the biggest hallmark holiday of the year. Yes…that is a
reminder to all of you beer drinkers.
Let’s dive in to Shiva
Appearance: Pours a clear and bright golden straw with a
seriously menacing head, something that would look more at home on top of a meringue pie. The 3 fingers of whip cream
head settled down into rocky peaks, leaving some decent lacing
behind.
Smell: Smell is big on floral and citrus with notes of orange and
lemon rinds, with some hints of grass/hay lingering in there
somewhere. There is a little bit of biscuit-malt sweetness as well.
Initial Taste: The taste is smooth and sweet up front. Bready,
caramel-like malt sweetness hits first, preparing the tongue for
the rush of citrus and herbal hops. Bitterness is in no short supply here with flavors of grapefruit, and herbal notes that help
cut through the sweetness tasted in the beginning. Although, it’s
not as citrusy as the nose would lead you to believe. The finish is
a bit more of the same with a spicy astringency lingering on the
tongue.
Thoughts: This is an IPA that delivers to the herbal and earthy
hop fanatics. They use a combination of Columbus and Tradition
hops, both of which are known for their herbal and floral flavors, with some grapefruit and citrus notes to be found when used
fresh. Those hops become quite apparent once you taste this beer, which is a nice change of pace from all the citrus bombs
that are out there. No doubt this IPA is certainly a hop-centric
one, but it keeps things tame as all the flavor profiles are a bit muted.
The only issue I have with this beer is that, while it’s a well-made
beer and I would definitely drink it again, there is nothing really
special here. The flavor is on the edge of being lackluster. I
imagine this is done intentionally to broaden this beer’s appeal
with hop-heads and non-hop-heads alike. But sadly, for this hop-
head, this beer needed a little kick in the arse. But don’t just take
my word for it. Try it yourself and let us know what you think!
Cheers! -Scott

From The Brewer.......
Saison
An unknown and scarcely brewed style, the Saison
was once the farm workers beer. Now often served
with a superiority complex, this beer has deep roots
in the field.
Bière de Saison, or beer of the season, was first developed in Wallonia, Belgium, and was brewed
during the cooler season and it was stored over the
winter months to age and mature, but most importantly to be ready for consumption by farm workers in the upcoming warm season.
Often called Farm House beers, this particular style is wide open to interpretation, and was restricted by
the availability of what was in the fields at that particular farm. The beer usually held a higher hop
content for the stability during aging, as well as a
higher alcohol content for the same purpose, but not
so high that the farm workers couldn’t perform their
required duties.
The ingredients used in this particular style were grown in the rich flatlands of Belgium and consisted
of wheat, oats, barley, and spelt (also known as dinkel
wheat or hulled wheat, a species of wheat cultivated
since approximately 5000 BC), as well as various herbs
and spices.
Wild yeasts were also incorporated into the brewing
process. Given the equipment and environment that the brewery was located in, many of these farm
houses developed “house” flavors that were carried over season after season.
All of these constantly changing variables allowed for an extremely wide brewing palate, so even in modern
times, no Saison is like another. Cheers.

Bangs
BEAUTY
Submitted by Derrick Driver, done by Deroc Hair Studio
In this business for 20 years now, I have seen almost all of my clients who wear bangs cut them, at home, without professional supervision, at some point or another. Even the ones who sit in my chair and exclaim, "I would never cut them myself!"
I know eventually that you will. Something will happen. The universe will be against you and you'll just have to do it.
In no way will you ever see an advisory on how to texturize, shape, or personalize your fringes. That requires specific hand and body positions not attainable at home, with kitchen shears, in front of a dimly lit mirror. Seriously, please heed my warning.
But, if you absolutely can not wait, if you're one of those twice a year clients, or if you're drunk, with friends, feeling dangerous and experimental, then this post is for you. The diagram below should give you everything you need to accomplish cutting your own bangs.
The GRAY area represents the classic bang, or fringe, area. It is a triangular section of hair starting at the high point of your forehead and expanding down to the outside corner of each eye. This will be the hair to hold and cut. Be careful not to take in hair from the hair line at the temples in this section. Now, clip the rest of your hair out of the way.
The PINK area is where you will collect and hold the hair. The hair is to be combed with as little tension as possible. A light touch goes a long way in avoiding mistakes. The hair is to be held in the manner shown in the illustration as close to your skin as possible. Do not lift away from your face. Lifting will cause unwanted texture and graduation.
In figure A, you can see the hair is moved (over-directed) to your right and collected over the right eye. Cutting the hair here will give movement in the opposite direction, making your bangs push to the left. This is for the side sweeping fringes. Want it to go the other way? Just flip it!
In figure B, you can see the hair is collected in the center of the nose and between the eyes. Cutting the hair here will give the straight across look that wraps around the forehead and blends into the length.
In figure C, you can see the hair is allowed to fall naturally and is slightly directed to both sides of the forehead. Cutting the hair here will give a more "mod" look to your fringe by encouraging bounce in the areas of recession. This is the most complex of all the examples because it is the one most shaped by you. Please be careful.
The -----dotted line----- represents cutting a straight line, parallel to the floor. Yes, a straight cut line here will give you the curved shapes in the illustration. The shape of your hairline and head, combined with the direction of the hair before cutting, dictates all that movement.
Cut your bangs way longer than you want them. This will give you an opportunity to fix all the other mistakes you have just made. (In case you were wondering, your first mistake was deciding to cut your own bangs.) Repeat, as necessary, until the desired length is achieved. OK, GREAT! Now that you've butchered your hair and need me to fix it for you, I expect to see you soon. We can have fun growing out and reshaping your fringe over the next few months. If you didn't screw everything up, CONGRATULATIONS!
DISCLAIMER: DO NOT cut your own bangs! Face framing fringes are for profes-sional use only and should never be attempted at home. Most stylist will trim them for free if you are a regular client, otherwise, the cost is very low and takes only a few minutes.
Proceed with caution, at your own risk. Good Luck!

HOME
Your Backyard Oasis Submitted by Debbi Memoli, UniScape
When first visiting a property in Bokeelia, we were amazed to find our client's property is nestled in the middle of over 100 acres of palm fields. While making our way to the center where we would be working to develop a layout, we found it to be one of the most beautiful drives as we made our way through the fields containing nearly every known palm in virtually all sizes.
The immense lush pathways and impressive statues virtually hid the home during our initial approach up the drive. As you journey further in, the landscaping astounds you. Each planting and designed space was manicured and primed for additional features. The paths created a childlike excitement. We estimate over 70 different plant species were already established and well arranged. With the vast amount of established plants and statuary, we would be able to highlight and expand those existing features to an even grander scale. Making our way through the many trails, we realized they were designed with a destination in mind, or an option to continue the journey to the other outdoor spaces. These walkways opened to grand scale settings, including a large tropical oasis, private areas framed by huge palms and vegetation, and overall the perfect setting where the home and the property became one with nature.
Our client is passionate about his substantial and growing collection of statues, large boulders, and fountains. The property is bold and eclectic, yet structured, with an abundance of elements to create a wood, water, and stone balance, in all the framed areas. We could create spaces ideal for meditation, a family gathering, yoga, reading, and picnicking. For the area we were creating, we recognized the nighttime lighting for the statuary, as well as the water features, would need to cohere to the perfect yet bold balances already existing on the property.
Having utilized several different types of lighting systems on ponds and in gardens, we knew using Atlantic color changing lights would pull together the underwater lighting, while adding the "wow" factor to the project, without overpowering the design. We discussed some of the options with the client, including being able to change the lights to a wide spectrum of 48 color selections. In addition to the water feature lighting, we incorporated Garden Light Lighting to subtly feature the trees and caves in the surrounding area. We chose the Garden Light brand because of their 20year-warranty, in addition to the solid brass casing which will extend the life of the sanctuary’s glow for years to come.
We spotlighted many of the palm trees using Garden Light Lighting, and were able to expand the lighting with spotlights extending upwards of 40 feet into the top of the palms. The multiple angle degree options of these lights stretched the lighting into the caves located in the area. The multilight system created an illuminating glow for the water, water features, caves, with the bonus of illuminating the trunks and tops of the palm trees. Our client's garden still has additional work and plans are to add 100 additional spotlights along the walkways, caves and trees throughout the property.
The beauty of including specialty lighting for water features and spotlighting is the client will be able to easily adjust a switch and create a unique and different appearance. The same space can be transformed into multiple spaces with the use of lighting and properly placed landscape features. This flexibility creates both spectacular light shows in every area based on use or mood. Subtle lights for relaxation and meditation or bolder bright lighting for family gatherings and outdoor dinner parties. The water, rock, and plant features created were designed with the day or night lighting effects, thus all working together cohesively and balancing the space, regardless of which color lighting is selected.

MOVIE REVIEW
Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri By Rachel Roth
Around Fall, Winter and the Christmas holiday, the award-winning movie season starts up as studios hope to release their best films in time for the Academy Awards. Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri is definitely one of them. Using the same mixture of thrill, emotion and comedy that he used in In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, director Martin McDonagh recreates the distinctive blend he’s known for in his best and most agonizing piece yet. Starring the always amazing Frances McDormand as a forceful woman without a nice thing to say about anyone. She is trying to get the police department on the path to solving her daughter’s murder by renting three billboards to shame them and call them out on their reluctance to take any action to solve the case. Though her pain is real and horrific, her portrayal of the character is humorous, as her blunt personality is used to soften the more serious underlined story. Every scene starring McDormand is filled with rude comments, directed at everyone, leaving no one safe from her insults or Molotov cocktails. Both aiding and frustrating her, Sam Rockwell plays a bigot cop that steals every scene he’s in. In an Oscar worthy performance, Rockwell proves once again that there isn’t a role he can’t conquer as he plays truly one of the angriest and stupidest men in Missouri with deep seeded self-esteem issues. Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri is a greeting letter to the emotion of anger exposing its consequences and the pain from which it’s born. Everyone in this film is angry one way or another, either at society, the police, their mothers, their husbands, their neighbors, etc. Anger is in everyone and it spreads like wildfire. Frances McDormand, as Mildred, has lost her daughter and needs to blame someone to gain closure. She chooses the police department because they are the only ones available. There were no leads in her daughter’s case, causing it to go cold and put in the back drawer. Though the police aren’t the best in the world, there wasn’t much that they could do. No matter what they did, or could have done, she would have heaved the blame on them. Once her anger gets out there on three large billboards, for everyone to see, it starts to spread. Chaos erupts in Ebbing and it’s hard to contain. Fire lights up every start corner and violent threats are handed out person to person. One is even thrown from a window.

“Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a Fairy Tale”.
Written by Melanie Musick
This phrase is prominently displayed in the home of Marty Wisher and David Baker. Theirs is a love story that many often dream may come true.

David is a highly decorated Lieutenant Commander (retired) with the Royal Australian Navy, who received a Medal of the Order of Australia Military title bequeathed by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to serving his own country for 44 years, he also served at the request of the United States military. But his permanent home was always “Down Under.” Marty, an artist who has trained in both Florida and Minnesota, grew up an Air Force brat, moving to a new area every couple of years. She has been a resident of Cape Coral for 25 years, owns Swan Studios Inc., Starlight Productions and just launched Glitterazzi Boutique.
In 2011, when David was stationed in Baghdad, he spent some time in one of Saddam Hussein’s many palaces. After noticing the faux marbling effect on the walls, he searched the internet to learn more about the technique. Swan Studios was one of his first options, so he emailed an inquiry to someone 14,000 miles away. At the time, Marty had an assistant who typically answered email. On the day of David’s initial message, her assistant was out sick so Marty took care of business. Little did she know that answering that one email would be the key to finding her new husband. David’s inquiries led to Marty’s answers and they got to know each other via email conversations. He even sent her links to articles confirming his identity and legitimacy of his claims. A year later in 2012, they met in Palm Springs, California. “That moment I met him made everything else that’s happened in my life make sense…from the time I was a little girl,” Marty says. “I was finally at peace.”
Their week together in California turned into eight months when David took an extended leave. He was nearing mandatory retirement age and decided, “I’m calling it a day.” Marty is quick to point out, “While I was wishing he’d choose that option, I never asked.” He opted to drastically change the only life he’d ever known: leaving the military and leaving all his family in Australia, choosing the U.S. as his new home with his “I Dream of Jeannie” beauty.

On Valentine’s Day in 2013, Marty and David exchanged gifts over breakfast. That night, at a romantic dinner at the Twisted Vine in Fort Myers, she found it strange that he seemed to be shaking and was repeatedly asking if she needed to go to the ladies room. When she had no need of the facilities, he finally offered up a small box. What she thought was a new
Pandora bead was instead a diamond ring that left her dazed and speechless. Once she realized he’d been proposing to her in her diamond stupor, of course the answer was YES!
Her parents, who are stationed in Qatar in the Middle East, met David via Skype. David and Marty traveled to Australia to meet his family. His mother’s observation was, “This is the happiest I’ve ever seen him!” David’s former military co-workers also saw the change in him remarking, “We’ve never seen him like this.” Since they couldn’t have all their family with them for a wedding, they opted to elope on April 24, 2014, where they exchanged their own vows.
The few hurdles they’ve experienced are attributed to the differences of the English language versus American interpretation, like the day he was taking a friend to the beach in Australia wearing his “thongs.” Marty was in the U.S. working and nearly panicking, when David added, “I think you call them something else.” That’s when she realized he was referring to “flip flops.” Do they have recommendations for others searching for love? “You CAN get it right the second or third time around,” David explains. Marty goes into a little more detail. “Be open to what God has for you. David was on the other side of the world, and we found each other.” As a result of their situation, she will often encourage friends in relationships that aren’t working out, “You need to cast a wider net,” because she never would’ve dreamed of landing an Aussie. Above their bed is posted You are my happily ever after. And anyone who knows them knows without a doubt it is a true statement!
A More Tailored Approach for Women Women often look at investment decisions differently than men and with good reason. • Because of salary discrepancies, many women start the investment process with fewer investable assets than their male counterparts. • Thanks to longer life spans, women often must find ways to make their assets last longer. Smart Debt Management: MONEY
Six Tips for Keeping Your Debt in Check Part 3 - Final Tips

Here are a few rules to live by when using credit cards: • Pay the balance off every month. The interest rates on unpaid credit card balances are often 12–18%, higher than almost any other type of debt. That means tracking what you charge and only charging what you can pay off every month.
• Set up automatic debits to make every payment by the due date. Even if you set it up to just pay the minimum, using automatic payments means you can avoid late fees and their negative impact on your credit score. Be sure to keep a cash reserve in your account so you don’t overdraw your checking account when the payment is due.
• Don’t carry too many cards. Hold one all-purpose card – preferably one with cash-back or travel benefits – and only a select few department store cards that you use frequently. Consolidate purchases on the card with the best benefits and keep one back-up card just in case. Continually opening new credit cards will likely hurt your credit score, costing you more money in the long run. 5.Monitor and try to improve your credit score. FICO® credit

being the rough breakpoint to get a better- than-average interest rate on a loan.3 If your score dips down to 650, it can mean a 1% increase

about debt in terms of leverage – if you use up all of your liquidity
to pay off a mortgage, you might find yourself in a compromised
position should a significant expense come up that you don’t have the cash to cover, such as a health issue or emergency home repair.
It can also be harder to access debt after retirement. Most lenders
require some proof of employment or regular income. Keeping a line of credit open or putting one in place while you are still employed
can be a smart idea. A line of credit can serve as an emergency reserve should you need it to cover an unexpected expense.
The flip side to paying off debt before retirement is taking out a
reverse mortgage in retirement. This is a form of liquidity available to some during retirement and works similarly to a line of credit.
Reverse mortgages are designed for those who need more income –
instead of selling the home and living off the proceeds, you can
augment income by borrowing against your equity and staying in the home

HOMETOWN HERO
Introducing Hometown Hero
Guiseppe Walter (Wally) Cortese Guiseppe Walter Cortese, otherwise known as Wally, is a first generation Italian American. His mother died when Wally was 2 years old, and his father never remarried.
Wally served in the US Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. During WWII,
from 1943 to 1946, he was a tail gunner in European Theater, stationed in Africa and Italy.
He flew bombing missions over Italy. One of his best memories is of the men, standing
and singing 'Silent Night' in the middle of the African desert on Christmas Eve. In the
Korea War, from 1950 to 1953, he served aboard a carrier which took the first army jets to
Korea. On the return trip, the entire hangar deck was covered with litter cases.
Wally has been married to his wife Doris for 62 years. They have
7 children, one of whom has been a missionary in the
Philippines for 35 years, and one who graduated from West
Point, but unfortunately passed away last year. They also have
14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, along with an 8 year old Maltese name Piccolo.
Wally and Doris moved to Cape Coral in 2010 from Michigan.
Wally was a licensed builder in Michigan, and worked in the
printing and distribution industry. They are active members of
the Presbyterian Christian Church, and Doris is very active in
the community. (Wally spends his time driving Doris around to meetings and events.)
Wally enjoys teaching bible study, reading, playing cards, and
watching sports (not the NFL.) His favorite thing to do in Cape Coral is to try all the different restaurants available. The best
part of living in The Cape: the quality of life, it's convenient to everything and the weather.
Serving in two different wars certainly makes Wally a Hometown
Hero who deserves our recognition and gratitude. Thank you, Wally, for fighting to protect our rights and freedoms.

WINE
Wine Down Under
Greetings fellow wine drinkers. I have enjoyed spending time with our seasonal and European guests, talking about their cultures, and of course, their favorite wines. While sitting down with some of them we all came to one simple conclusion. One country in particular is very underrated in its wine accomplishments. I am, of course, speaking of New Zealand. Our brothers down under have been growing some great grapes over the last 40 years and have produced excellent wines, most notably Sauvignon Blanc.
Geographically speaking, New Zealand lies at latitudes 36 degrees to 45 degrees south. What does this mean? Well, with its rivers running throughout it and its valleys and hilly regions it resembles the German Rhine region. The alluvial valleys are rich in mineral deposits and superior drainage which produce all types of grapes.
Broken up mostly into five regions, Northland, Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Marlborough and Canterbury, each has a distinct geography to produce excellent varietals. Wiaheke Island, east of Aukland, is most noted for its production of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The epicenter is the Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough regions, known for being the oldest growing regions in the country, as well as their notable Bordeaux blends, Sauvignon Blanc and up and coming Syrah wines.
To say there is just one wine I would choose from New Zealand would be a lie. The country has so many new and exciting wines to experience annually that I would suggest you visit your local retailer. Inquire which wines have been producing notoriety and purchase a few for your wine tasting experience. Our restaurant offers Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and as an all-around experience it’s pretty good. One of the best I have tasted is from Dog Point Vineyards and its Section 94 wine is excellent at around $30.00.
Submitted by Chris Bacus Ciao Italian Restaurant
The other wine I would recommend is a Syrah, and as red’s go they can produce some very awe inspiring vintages. Craggy Range’s Le Sol Hawke’s Bay 2013 leads the charge down under, scoring 98 points {we never discussed the point system in my column, perhaps next month.} It is a personal favorite at around $30.00 as well. So, next time you want to try something new, try a little thunder from down under! Until next month, remember that old friends, like old wine, always improve with age. CAPESTYLEMAG.COM

COMMUNITY IN ACTION
CAPE CORAL FIRE DEPARTMENT GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR FIRE STATION 11
Fire Station 11 will be located at 1038 Burnt Store Rd. N to better serve the residents in the northwest area of the City
The groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 11, to be located at 1038 Burnt Store Rd. N, was held on January 11th.
The total building cost, including design and permits, will be approximately $4,070,189 and is funded by Debt Proceeds secured by the Fire Service Assessment (FSA). The City has purchased the rights to the station design plan, which will save time and money when new fire stations are built in the future. The station will be 9,161 square feet and the construction site is 1.8 acres. The station will house a four-person fire engine that provides fire suppression and Advanced Life Support (ALS) services. Fire Station 11 will incorporate areas currently covered by Stations 7 and 8. The addition of this station is necessary to match the growth of the City and improve response times in the northwest area.
“A fire doubles in size every 30 seconds, or imagine having difficulty breathing. In an emergency, every second counts,” said Interim Fire Chief Ryan Lamb, “Both those in need and the firefighters want a fast response. The fire stations currently servicing this area are over five miles away. The addition of Fire Station 11 will greatly reduce response times to residents in this quickly growing community.”
The construction of Fire Station 11 has been in the Fire Department’s Master Plan and the City’s Capital Improvement Plan for five years. Funding for the project was allocated and adopted in Fiscal Year 2016. Estimated completion date is Fall of this year (2018.)
