Discovering Raw Talents

Krizia Roubstella @ 080 Barcelona

XX 2beMag

www.2bemag.com

The 26 years old Dutch fashion designer, Krizia Robustella, who lives and works in Barcelona, has won all the prizes at the 080 Barcelona fashion week. After 7 editions celebrating this event, this last one has been the first in which the two prizes have been given to the same designer, the prizes Mentos-080 Barcelona to the best women and men collections. Each prize was rewarded by a thousand euro, so Robustella earned 20.000 euro to invest in her next collections. The young designer, who has competed and won over 18 other candidates, has a very eclectic style that combines and mixes many different ideas and styles in one result. She herself names her style as “Sport deluxe”, mixing sporty garments of the last decades with other pieces much more elaborated, where comfort is merged with luxury. Lycras, leggings, overalls, eclectic colors, tops and a combination of jogging suits and working uniforms

like those worn by air hostesses or hairstylist, create a unique world presented in Robustella’s collection. The jury was formed by professionals of the fashion field such as Jean Paul Cauvin, who was the manager of top model Laetitia Casta and the mercadotecnia of Torrente’s director, Jina Khayye, editor of the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and Romain Brau, art director of RA and fashion and art exhibitions presenter worldwide. Jean Pierre Mocho, president of the SA SODES supervision council and organizer of the commercial fair of Prêt a Porter Paris, photographer Christian Lartillot and cofounder and codirector of both the creative studio Ipsum Planet and of the Neo2 magazine have also joined the jury. The prizes have been finally given to Robustella after a long discussion because, as the jury considered, her collections summarize the spirit of catalan fashion and are truly original and nonconformist.

BARCELONA

Every six months I have the pleasure to visit Berlin, my capital, a city that is poor but sexy. Every time I go, I fall in love again, this city is simply amazing, the only thing is that they have huge issues with the climate during six months. Flying back to Barcelona on the 31st of January, the Brandery was about to kick-off two days later and I still had to organize the booth that was given to FashionFreax as media partner. After the event at Montjuic, the 080 Barcelona

Fashion Week was almost about to start, to be exact, the big tent at the Barceloneta opened its doors on Monday. As you can see above the text, I was always accompanied by my camera and you can have a look at my ten favourite Street Styles of each event I have attended during the last three weeks. PERSONS OF SPECIAL COURTESY FRANCESCA TUR I met Fran a couple of years ago in Berlin and since that day, we have constantly been in contact. Fran is one lovely person, always having a smile in store and always being happy and transmitting this to the people around her. She is a very hard worker, committing her life to work, but still liking and enjoying what she does. Give it up for Francesca Tur... My name is Francesca Tur, I live in Barcelona but actually I am from Ibiza. After finishing my studies at the “Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona” I was working for an advertising agency “Bassat Ogilvy” but soon I decided to try out other terrains. In 2005 I started with Tendencias.tv, the first urban TV channel for trends in Spain. I am colaborating with “The Hunter” and I am part of the Coolhunting Express seminaries. I teach at different institutes in Barcelona and I habitually work together with Lecool, Indyrock or Go Mag. When I asked Fran if she wanted to say anything else, she came up with the following phrase. I like my grandmother and I love the sun!

Balmain replaces Emanuelle Alt After becoming the new editor in chief of French Vogue, Emanuelle Alt, who used to style all the Christophe Decarnin’s fashion shows, won’t be able to do it anymore because her new position takes all of her time now. So from now on, Balmain fashion shows will be styled by Melanie Ward, who is replacing Alt and who is well known for her work at Helmut Lang’s, where she styles for more than thirteen years and even eventually designed some pieces for the label. It is true that Alt’s style really fits with Christophe Decarnin’s collections, which mix rocky style with luxury, but we are pretty sure that Ward’s work will be also very pertinent thinking of her experience at Helmut Lang’s and the results she has given. We are really excited to see the first Balmain show styled by her!

Dita Von Teese will launch her own fragrance After hearing lots of rumors about Von Teese creating her own perfume, this seems to be confirmed by a comment she herself posted on Twitter that said, “Isolated at a chateau in the French countryside with my perfumers”. The launching date is not confirmed yet, but we can have a little idea of how the fragrance will be by some declarations Von Teese has made: “No fruit, no vanilla, no candy!! Velvet sensuality with a dash of vulgarity!”, “I want to evoke passion with fragrance… intense love/ lust and distaste/fear rather than merely popular acceptance.” We won’t maybe be able to get the moves of the burlesque dancer, but at least, we will be able to smell as sexy as her.

Alexander Wang’s first store Finally, the first Alexander Wang flagship store was opened on Grand Street, in New York City. “I wanted something pristine and hard”, said Wang when explaining his first store’s design. For the pristine, Wang had the floors, walls and pillars painted in a pure white and placed 12 panels of mirror spiral in every corner of the store. For the hard, a 10-fothigh and 14-foot-wide blackened-steel cage was designed to place at the store’s entrance. The store pretends to express Wang’s love for the “interrupted, and discovering the beauty and mystery that comes from natural flaws. A lot of pieces are kind of interrupted”, as Wang explained to WWD. “I wanted things to feel a little bit flawed”.

The olsen twins will design for Toms Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, the twins who are behind the high priced brand The Row, are teaming up with Toms shoes to create a fall 2011 collection, making a part of their own brand more accessible to the masses. “We feel it’s very important to spread awareness of the Toms One for One Mission” said Ashley Olsen. The collection that Toms and The Rown will create together will have a price range from 98$ to 150$, and will be available in plaid, herringbone and cashmere.

World Fashion News LEO’S DAY PARTY During the night of the past 18th of february, it was celebrated, at the Virgin Cafe of Via Tocqueville, in the city of Milano, a dinner due to the Leonardo Cacceta 37th birthday, founder of the italian communication agency Amarena. The party, which was organized by his own business, was a three day long event and continued, the day after, february 19th, with a ball and a costume’s party at the Visionnaire, in Piazza Cavour. Guests from all Europe were reunited, during those dates, to celebrate such party that, from many years ago, it is known as an event that serves as a meeting point to businessmen and people of the fashion, catering and leisure world. The motif of the costume’s ball change every year and, in this case, it was regarded to be wearing an outfit which reminded the science fiction movies of cult.

Joan Smalls for Vogue

Joan Smalls (Joan Rodriguez) grew up in Puerto Rico, where she discovered modeling by way of television. Originally using the TV to watch Sesame Street while sandwiched between her two pet dogs, Smalls later gained a healthy addiction to fashionrelated shows. Frequent comparisons of her body type against the models on the tube convinced Smalls that she could make it in the industry, while an episode of E! True Hollywood Story provided her with enough industry insights to believe that a modeling salary could mean a better life for her and her family. In 2007, Smalls jumped ship from Puerto Rico to New York City, where she promptly found professional

44 2beMag

representation with Elite Model Management. From there, she was chosen by Tory Burch as a fall show headliner, something she would also do for Heatherette, L’Wren Scott, Tracy Reese, and Benjamin Cho. Before 2009 was over, Joan Smalls made one of her most important career moves by switching her representation from Elite Model Management to IMG Models. Having been on the brink of true modeling stardom for several years, this move paid off immeasurably in 2010 when Smalls was chosen by Givenchy’s creative director, Riccardo Tisci, to appear as an exclusive in the company’s spring Paris couture show.

Emerging Raw Talents

Jason Wu is one of the youngest fashion designers that are reaching an enviable fame and recognition. Born September 27, 1982, in Taiwan, is nowadays a Mnahattan based Taiwanese American fashion designer. He moved to Vancouver at the age of nine but didn’t stay long, he moved houses many times. Wu learned how to sew by designing and sewing for dolls, and finally, following its artistic and creative instincts, he went to study sculpture in Tokyo. Wu started his career path by learning to create doll clothing designs as a freelance for a prestigious doll company, Integrity Toys, and sold them under the name “Jason Wu dolls” at first and “Fashion Royalty” after. After a whole year doing this, he was named creative director of Integrity Toys. While spending his senior year of high school in Reenes, he decided to become a fashion designer and moved to New York to join The New School, at the Parsons School for Design and once he had finished he interned with Narciso Rodriguez. His first full collection, launched with earnings from his years of doll designs, debuted in 2006 and won the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star award in 2008. That same year, he was nominated for the Vogue Fashion Fund award. But his real success, in worldwide terms, was when André Leon Talley, Vogue Magazine’s editor at large, who had been advising the future First Family on appearance, introduced him to

Michelle Obama. In that moment, she bought 4 dresses designed by Wu and, since then, she has been wearing his creations to the majority of the events she had to attend. After this final success, Wu has been already shot by Bruce Weber for W magazine and among his clients we can enhance Ivana Trump, January Jones and Amber Valletta. Recently, he has expanded beyond his initial evening focus to include sportswear. It will be interesting to follow this young designer’s career. text by Laura Sunyer

Between reality and thought The Capabilities of video of seeping into the thoughts and connecting with the memories or the emotions of the mind is an advantage of this art compared to other artistic expressions. Fabio Scacchioli ,the Italian filmaker plays with these possibilities by focusing on the connections between memory, perception and thought. Educated at the University of Perugia and at the University of Madrid. Scacchioli has projected his films and installations in exhibitions and festivals around the world including the United States, Cuba, Germany, United Kingdom, Serbia, Venezuela, Italy, etc. Lately, he has been seen in the Streaming Festival in Holland where he presented Nightlife in a puddle, a personal view after a stormy night. Currently participating in the exhibition Open 3 on S.a.L.E Docks - Magazzini del Sale of Venice with his latest work, From a land of ashes and mist, an experimental documentary about the history of a living between dreams, debris and memories. His works are characterized by the use of modern technology together with old camcorders, and editing software combined with manual labor. A personal artistic method used to obtain images of low quality or damaged. The video that we present you and follows this article is titled: Dead SEEQuences , the image of a female body that appears and vanishes in the shadows and cuts. The artist is able to question the origin of the figure by asking if we visualize the woman from the parties represented or from the shadows to hide it, or if your image is defined by each frame individually or from the gap between each. It is at this point that the piece consisting of 3,770 frames becomes empty or dead. The artist is able to question the reality of everything represented by manipulating the image of a body, the tangible reality of the human being.

Also, in 2009 he got the prize Designer of the Year given by the Brithish Fashion Awards, and with the younger line, Burberry Prorsum, Bailey has finally connected with a younger audience with more risky designs and converting the giant of the British luxury in one of the most profitable and recognized brands in the fashion scene. “I want to return to the brand’s roots and explore what to be British means”, Bailey said.
