30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013 3
ACCESSORIES
First, let me take a moment to send the deepest, warmest thanks to each and every person who has taken the time to read the very first issue of the 30A Street Style e-zine. What a response! Your words of encouragement and feedback meant the world. This has been the most unexpected and fun project and I am humbled and thrilled that you all are following along on this fabulous ride. I’m just a girl who likes fashion (maybe a little too much?) and I’m so happy to know I’m not alone. From blog posts to Instagram snapshots and beyond, every time you like, comment or double tap a photo, it makes me smile. Connecting over style brings us together to make new friends like the talented Mychael Knight, whom we chatted with during the inaugural South Walton Fashion Week. We bonded over social media, Heidi Klum and his new-found love of our beaches. And really, what’s not to love? Even the well-traveled (and well-heeled) Cassie McConnell Kelley calls 30A her happy place. If ever there was a woman to crush on, she’s it. See Exhibit A on the following page. Drop-dead gorgeous and authentically sweet, her radiance is hard to ignore. What a treat to have her join in the fashion week festivities! Along with a few of Cassie’s style secrets, we’re sharing all of our fall trend favorites, THE accessories to wake up your wardrobe and even a peek inside an expertly stocked closet thanks to Sarah Powers of Closetini. It’s enough to satisfy any fashion appetite. When you make it all the way to the end of this issue we have a special cocktail treat that you’ll be sipping again and again in 2014. Combined with perfect beach breezes and colorful sunsets that anyone would envy, this one is a season for the books. Read on, and don’t miss a single detail!
Sincerely, Jami Ray

WHY WE LOVE BOYFRIEND JEANS: 1. Essentially anyone can wear this style. Their distressed look goes from tomboy chic to ladylike cool depending on what you pair them with. 2. Styles can lean toward loose and comfy or more fitted. Find the fit you love. 3. Try a menswear-inspired top like a structured blazer or button-up shirt. 4. Achieve the perfect half-tuck with a look that is edgy yet still put together. 2. Pair boyfriend jeans with ladylike pumps or ankle strap heels. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/512495632566831454/ LEFT TO RIGHT: Gap 1969 Destructed Boyfriend Jeans, $69.95 Joe’s Jeans Vintage Reserve Easy Highwater $87 (on sale!) golden girl Cassie Kelley shines in south walton
40 30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Insta @Womanista i spotted cassie kelley in the audience of a televised awards show a few years ago and was an instant fan. though her husband charles of lady antebellum may have been the reason she caught my eye, he’s not the
reason i’ve remained a fan (sorry, charles!).
from a glance, it’s obvious that the girl has style. cassie looks flawless on every red
my mom “shopping” for a living, I’ve always loved clothes and styling.
How would you define your personal style?
Chic and tailored with feminine texture and the juxtaposition of different fabrics like mixing lace with a studded motorcycle jacket or oxblood leather pants with a denim shirt.
Any red carpet posing secrets to help everyday girls take more flattering photos?
she makes glamour look so easy. the real
Well, my sisters call my pose “The Cassie Arm” because I always have my hand on my hip. If you stand at a 45 degree angle from the camera with your hand on your hip, your body looks slim. Then put one foot slightly in front of the other with your front knee bent a little bit. It’s my go-to red carpet pose.
personality. cassie has a golden glow
What one thing do you buy every fall-winter season?
carpet she walks and has impeccable taste. draw, however, is her warmth and inviting about her in photos but in person, it feels
contagious. she’s the kind of girl you just want to be around.
while some women like to maintain the “i
wake up looking this fabulous” idea, cassie
is quick to share her beauty secrets. readers of her blog womanista.com get a behindthe-scenes look at how she preps for big events -- hair extensions, fake eyelashes,
glam squad and all. in addition to fashion, cassie also posts about travel, decor, food and music (naturally). not only does she
embrace all things girly but she also seems to have a way to encourage other women along the way. now that’s what i call a womanista. -- JR
When did your love of fashion begin?
My mom has owned boutiques since before I was born, so fashion is in my blood. She currently owns a gorgeous boutique in Franklin, TN called Haven and has been styling fabulous fashionistas in Nashville for the past 20 years. She has worked with Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Faith Hill, Amy Grant and Trisha Yearwood (to name a few). Since I grew up with
I always buy some sort of outer wear - a tailored blazer, a great motorcycle jacket, or a cozy, textured cardigan. I love layering when the weather cools down, so I stock up on great layering pieces.
What do you look for from a designer?
For me, creativity is important., but wearability is really important too. In today’s market, everything can look good on a model. A real woman’s body is different than a six-foottall woman. I want to look special in what I wear and look great. Clothes need to have an easiness too. There are certain designers that fit my body more than others and the cut is everything.
How do you manage to stay so grounded and real in a “Kimye” world?
Living in Nashville is very different from living in LA or New York and I’m very thankful for that. People don’t really treat you like you are a “celebrity” here, and I think Nashvillians are really proud of that fact. People come to Nashville to do what they love and still maintain a regular life. You can go to the grocery, take your kids to school and pump gas without having paparazzi yelling at you. If anyone tried to be a diva in Nashville, I’m pretty sure a local would call them out pretty quickly!
To selfie or not to selfie? What’s your take? I love an indulgent selfie every once in awhile! Follow cassie on instagram: @womanista or subscribe to her blog at womanista.com 30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013 41

WE CAUGHT UP WITH THE SEASON 3 ALUM IN GRAND BOULEVARD TO CHAT ABOUT FILMING THE SHOW, INSTAGRAM OBSESSIONS, HIS NEWFOUND LOVE OF THE BEACH AND EVEN HEIDI KLUM.
hey now, he’s an
Jami Ray, 30A Street Style: First, I have to comment on
your shoes. What are you wearing?
Mychael Knight: These are made by a friend of mine. There’s
nothing like a good moccasin. Feet to earth. I feel like I can fit in here. I see flip flops, I see style that’s laid-back. I love easy. That’s kind of my design aesthetic. People like gorgeous pretty dresses and I like easy. My shapes are always easy. Just looking around today, everyone looks so awesome. I see a lot of sparkle. I see some color on y’all. That’s so chic.
JR: Well, thank you! It’s exciting to have you here, especially since it’s your first visit. Where are you originally from? MK: I’m an Army brat from Alabama, then Georgia and all over the South. I still have family within driving distance from here. I’m not sure how I’ve never been here before.
MYCHAEL KNIGHT chats with Jami Ray and Caitlyn Ward of 30A Street Style
JR: You’ve also been spending time in New York City for Project Runway All-Stars. Has that finished filming?
MK: Everything is done. When you all watch, it’s our first time watching too. When I got to New York to start filming, I only knew two 30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013 43
FASHION FEATURE other designers - Jeffrey and Korto. It’s really all happening so fast, every day. We actually tape it in 6 weeks.
JR: Does the pressure get to you in that environment? MK: It depends on the type of person you are. My business
started in the recording industry with entertainment artists for record labels. We might get a call from Ciara on a Monday saying she needs four looks and her dancers each need four looks by Thursday. You just have to make it work. Especially if you’re making a business of it, hell yeah, you make it work. The pressure never bothered me. The only thing that bothered me was the trips to the fabric store. There are so many options and I fall in love with fabrics like “Oh my gahh.” To think about what works for a design, you have to touch stuff, feel it and see how it drapes. This time around because I hadn’t been there in so long, so much was changed. I was asking, “Where are your silks? Where are your leathers?” You have like 30 minutes. That’s it.
JR: What was your strategy? MK: I would always buy more than what I needed in different
fabrics. Once I bought the fabric that I really wanted to use, I would still look for other stuff. They gave us a budget, and I spent it til it was gone.
JR: I have to know. What was Heidi really like? MK: She’s very tall. Strikingly gorgeous. The first time she
came up to me, I actually jumped. She’s funny and such a real person. She’s a guy’s girl, really into sports, jokes and just so cool. Everybody on the show is amazing.
JR: We’re all looking forward to see how the season unfolds on TV. How is this time around different? MK: They asked me to participate the first two seasons and I said no, but this time I thought let me just try and go for it. Being able to use social media and the social platforms has been interesting because it wasn’t really around my first time through. It’s been really cool and interesting. I’m moving towards loving it. My creativity with something like Instagram comes from me trying to force myself to do it. I’m very interested in other people’s lives and what other people have going on. I like to leave a little mystery. I don’t post too much fashion. I don’t want you to see it in the process, I want you to see the perfect and wow stuff. I do all of that to make it interesting because I get bored really easily. I go through phases like black and white, blues. JR: What do you look for in emerging designers, particularly the ones showing at South Walton Fashion Week?
MK: I’m always looking for someone who is a designer. I’m looking for fit, cut, color, capability, and so on. Secondly, it’s visceral. What does it make me feel? I’m artsy fartsy so it takes me somewhere else. Like, what is this giving me? It’s like vintage... French... boudoir. I’m all about the fantasy and the story. I get lost in the moment. Can a woman wear it? Is it fashion? Sometimes when people see you’re from the south they assume you don’t know anything about fashion. That is totally false. Anytime I go to the south, it’s always amazing fashion-wise. I mean think about it. We had Scarlett O’Hara. She made a fabulous gown out of curtains. Outside of that, I love to see all these amazing fashion people. JR:
Maybe we’ll see a beach-inspired series. You’ve already been sharing your South Walton Fashion Week adventures since you arrived, which we love.
MK:
I’ve been getting so much here - videos, photos, moments of inspiration. This place is fab. It’s like telling my fans, “You should be here. Be jealous.” --JR

n cities like New York, Paris and Milan, fashion week is a magical time when cities come alive to put their best wellheeled foot forward. It’s all about capturing a moment in fashion. For a place known widely for beaches, architecture and cuisine, South Walton takes its sartorial turn with signature ease and elegance. The inaugural South Walton Fashion Week, held October 1113, created the perfect synergy of style, electricity and excitement that brought together locals and visitors from around the South for glamorous runway shows under the big tent at Grand Boulevard’s Town Center. By day, sunshine and trunk shows took over with umbrella drinks, bubbly and fresh fashion along 30A. By night, emerging designers and local shops cranked up the style volume showcasing favorite looks in exclusive runway shows. The following is our fashion diary from all the fabulous fun:

Thursday,
5:05 pm
SOUTHERN FASHION HOUSE kicks off the festivities with a Boots & Bubbly soiree, hosted at their warehouse headquarters. With designer STEPHANIE CARTER “bedazzling everything in sight” (her own words), the week’s entrée is both country chic and Hollywood glam. With plenty of cowboy boots and champagne to go around, guests tour the creative offices and even get a glimpe of the new JACQUE + JANIS line soon to be making its debut. Their dolled-up space perfectly reflects the brand’s style. Aside from the sparkly fashion, favorites of the night are Mason jar bellinis, the vintage-looking JUDITH MARCH sign and a Louis Vuitton upholstered chair. Yes, you read that right.

We enter PERSPICASITY’S open-air market where we snag a delicious umbrella-clad cocktail, get a sneak peek of KERRY CASSILL’S Spring 2014 collection, fall in love with a linen tunic, shop next to designer ANDI EATON (also the blogger behind HAZEL AND FLO) and meet Bent by Courtney designer COURTNEY AKERS who matches us with our perfect pair of handmade earrings. After refueling at Bud & Alley’s Pizza Bar, we hop in the car and head to WILLOW BOUTIQUE in ROSEMARY BEACH. We drool over a HAUTE HIPPIE blouse, check out the GOLD + GRAY jewelry display and discuss what to wear later that evening. The weather is divine and the short stroll down Main Street is so nice we could linger all day.

After a quick outfit change, we cross the lush lawn at GRAND BOULEVARD’S TOWN CENTER just in time for the SWFW press conference to begin. Emerging Designers ELLA ROSE, SARAH WINFORD, ANDI EATON, JENNIFER NINA EVANS, ASHLIE MING and CAYCE COLLINS are there along with the weekend’s emcee HEATHER ROOP of All My Children, CASSIE MCCONNELL KELLEY of Womanista. com and MYCHAEL KNIGHT of Project Runway and Project Runway All-Stars. When asked what they’ll be looking for as judges, Cassie says that cut goes a long way in helping her feel special in a garment while Mychael describes the importance of design and an artistic statement.

Friday,

The VIP party gets underway at TOMMY BAHAMA and we get a chance to mix, mingle and chat. CHARLES KELLEY, Cassie’s hubby and Lady Antebellum band member, makes a brief appearance to support his lady and pose for a few Instagram shots. We compliment CAYCE COLLINS on her happy blue skirt and she tells us that she loves classic silhouettes and even began sewing using vintage patterns she found at an estate sale. We notice JENNIFER NINA EVANS’ silk gator print blazer and she tells us that she searches for beauty in unexpected places, enjoying the challenge of making statement pieces that are also wearable. She hopes one day to have both a couture collection and a ready-to-wear line. ASHLIE MING tells us she was so excited to get to South Walton that she forgot to pack one of her outfits. What does a designer do?
Wear one of her own pieces, naturally. In fact, all of the Emerging Designers are wearing their own designs and the variety of styles makes us excited to see the full collections.
Friday, 6:48 pm
The line for red carpet photos in front of the main tent snakes across the grass. After a whirlwind of snapshots, catching up with friends, charging our phones (let’s be real) and snapping street style pics, we make our way through the packed Pre-Party by WILLOW BOUTIQUE to see the lovely Willow owners CELIA TUCKER and CINDY KRUTZ looking Gatsby-chic in sequins and sparkles. The excitement before the first runway show is palpable.
Friday, 7:03 pm
The lights dim, conversations curb and HEATHER ROOP takes center stage. As she makes introductions and thanks sponsors for making the first SWFW possible, we glance over to see MYCHAEL KNIGHT and CASSIE KELLEY, smiling front-row along with an entire tent that is standing room only. We have to admit, we’re a little giddy. As Lady Gaga’s “Applause” fills the air, we see the latest fashions from BAREFOOT PRINCESS, ISLAND CLOTHIERS, JEWEL TOFFIER, MERMAIDS, BOMBORA, SIRENS LINGERIE AND WILLOW BOUTIQUE.

their classic side with serene music and simple, beautiful pieces perfect for everyday luxury. Signature shades of navy and white dominate the color story. When the NICOLE PALOMA brand flashes on the backdrop next and a bed rolls onstage, the crowd takes a collective breath in anticipation. The first model rises from the sheets, stretching before taking her first walk. The music takes an upbeat turn and one by one we see gorgeous handmade pieces with ruffles, ribbons and sequins in a monochromatic palette of white, gray and silver. The collection is amazing and the crowd goes wild. When Nicole comes onstage to take a bow, she’s overcome with emotion and we notice that we aren’t the only ones wiping away a tear. What a night!
Saturday,
11:00 am
For Day 2, we go straight to NICOLE PALOMA’S studio/shop in Grayton Beach to start our day with mimosas and goodies from Chanticleer Bakery. Everyone is talking about the runway show the night before and snagging beautiful pieces as quickly as they can. We get the scoop on Nicole’s talents straight from her sweet (and talented!) mom Marscha. Fashion runs in the family. Nicole’s grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother all worked in textiles. Says Marscha, “I knew she would be in this moment.” Judging by the show the night before, it’s quite a moment.
Saturday,
12:30-3 pm
We pass the iconic butteries of Alys Beach to reach THE ALYS SHOPPE. Just inside are delicious mini cupcakes, pink lemonade and a store full of style. We chat with Shannon Spotswood of BUSY BEES KIDS (recently mentioned in one of Gwyneth Paltrow’s famous GOOP newsletters) and browse the full collection of clothing, acceessories and gifts. We wander through Seaside’s Ruskin Place to see JEWEL TOFFIER fall separates and stop in at SNAP TWEENS to check out colorful styles perfect for budding fashionistas. In Sandestin, ISLAND CLOTHIERS offers something for the gentlemen with a trunk show of southern shirts and tees by STATE TRADITIONS.
We’re a little starstruck by Holly, who is a singer/songwriter, (granddaughter of Hank!) and owner of the posh Nashville Boutique H. AUDREY. She has an unspoken coolness and style about her, but is instantly warm and down to earth. We immediately ask for details of every item she’s wearing.

After a full presentation from GRAND BOULEVARD’S featured retailers, THE ALYS SHOPPE shows an outstanding collection of luxe resort wear that would be right at home at Caliza Pool. SOUTHERN FASHION HOUSE follows up with a runway full of Judith March style. From South Walton to the southeast, this brand is already becoming a popular choice for gameday, beach wear and beyond. Next, as the first model hits the runway for OPHELIA SWIMWEAR / 30A GEAR, the blonde wigs make perfect sense. Rockin’ bods are made even better with playful bikinis, sugary sweet makeup and even candy accessories. We take a quick break to check our hair and makeup at PISH POSH PATCHOULI’S beauty bar, freshening up and testing products.
The first-ever Emerging Designer competition brings talent from six up-and-coming designers from Nashville to New Orleans and even our own backyard. After seeing each of the designer’s collections we have a few favorites but anxiously await the judges’ choice. CAYCE COLLINS takes us to sweet, vintage Petaluma, CA; ANDI EATON’S models go glamping with retro Louisiana looks; JENNIFER NINA EVANS shows punk style with soft pastels; ASHLIE MING combines edgy leather with luxe ladylike style; ELLA ROSE does sweet earthy prints with girly silhouettes and SARAH WINFORD shows structured feminine looks with a 9-to-5 twist. (See full Emerging Designer collections on page 55). As the judges finish casting their votes and the crowd waits to hear who is named the 2013 Emerging Designer, everyone is rehashing which looks they loved. One girl asks where to buy ANDI EATON’S “Bigger Than You Ever Dreamed” tee, another wants to steal SARAH WINFORD’S finale dress and MYCHAEL KNIGHT hits the dance floor. EMME MARTIN is named the winner of the 2013 model competition and the top Emerging Designer is..... ASHLIE MING!

We hit the RED BAR to recharge from the night before. It’s a wear-your-suit-get-$2-mimosas kind of morning. We’re greeted by MIKE RAGSDALE of 30A.COM armed with tasty mimosas for all. Yes, please! The beautiful ladies of OPHELIA SWIMWEAR and the fun-loving crowd make this morning so fun. It’s hard to beat a Sunday in Grayton!
Saturday,

SILVER SANDS PREMIUM OUTLETS hosts the second night preparty and it seems the tents are even more packed than before. We immediately head backstage to see the beauty chaos and chat with STEPHANIE CARTER of SOUTHERN FASHION HOUSE and TORI VAN HOENE of OPHELIA SWIMWEAR, who are both on deck to show. We spot giant blonde wigs, Jeffrey Campbell doll head shoes, smoky eyes, glitter eyes, countless curling irons and models galore. As we wander back to the party, we run into CASSIE KELLEY and SARAH DAVIDSON who look perfectly polished and beautiful. As we’re chatting about Tarte lipstick, HOLLY WILLIAMS arrives and a round of hugs ensues.
52 30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013
It’s time for the final runway shows of the weekend and these are, by far, the most adorable. The Kids’ Shows include collections from COCONUT KIDS, GIGI’S FABULOUS KIDS, SNAP TWEENS, SEASIDE KIDS and PRETTY PLEASE. With a hand on the hip and a sassy nod to the crowd, these mini-models bring the house down. As we watch the adoring families of these budding fashionistas look on with pride, we can’t help but feel the same way about our town’s first fashion week. From the trunk shows to the runway shows, the community support to the signature style. It’s safe to say, South Walton just had a moment. -- JR

Ashlie Ming
With a lovely mix of soft femininity and dark edge, Ashlie Ming’s blackout collection was smashing enough to earn her the title of South Walton Fashion Week’s 2013 Emerging Designer. Taking inspiration from her home state of Mississippi, her adopted city of New Orleans and even Los Angeles, where she graduated from the The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Ashlie’s style is modern and simple with full attention to detail. She uses luxe materials like leather, linen and silk. With the goal of bringing more manufacturing back to the US, all of Ashlie’s pieces are designed and manufactured in New Orleans.

Andi Eaton
Inspired by country-glam Louisiana ladies who spend their time at laid-back river camps, drinking sweet tea, soaking in jazz music and playing Scrabble into the night, Andi Eaton, a New Orleans gal herself, celebrates Southern charm with her line Hazel & Florange. With a homespun, ethereal quality, Andi calls her collection gypsy jet-set. Retro silhouettes, long flowing skirts, scalloped edges, head wraps and even graphic tees are mixed in for a look that is both au currant and reminiscent of a decade gone-by. This is what glamping looks like. Andi is also the blogger behind Oui We Girl, a vintage-focused southern fashion blog.
30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013 55
Ella Rose
The artistry and craftsmanship of designer Ella Rose’s pieces is evident in her South Walton Fashion Week collection. Graduating from LSU with a degree in Textiles, Apparel and Merchandising and Studio Art, this Louisiana girl puts her skills on display with hand-painted original prints and silk-screened patterns as well as natural textures and textiles. Inspired by ”Painting the Roses Red” in Alice in Wonderland, her colorful pieces are made from cottons, organzas, burnout velvets and even recycled gator skin. Ella Rose’s collection is sweet enough for tea, but sassy enough for any queen bee.

Cayce Collins
After buying a box full of 40s, 50s and 60s-era patterns from an estate sale years ago and taking them home to sew, Cayce Collins has been hooked on classic silhouettes with clean lines. As a long-time Destin resident, Cayce has an understanding of what clothing fits the beach lifestyle but also lends itself to a sweet, timeless style. Inspired by classic designers like Nanette Lapore, Kate Spade and Marc Jacobs, Cayce’s pieces are clean, well-tailored, pure and pretty — perfect for warm weather in South Walton!I’d love to design a piece that someone could wear for a decade and still feel confident. If it fits well, looks great on you and has timeless style, it’s always worth it.

Sarah Winford
Currently residing in Hattiesburg, MS, Sarah Winford’s southern roots extend to Alabama where she grew up in Helena and studied Apparel Design at Auburn. It’s easy to see Sarah’s love for finding vintage pieces and making them work for today’s style. With some pieces giving a slight 90s era Designing Women vibe and others a bit 9 to 5, this collection was a lovely balance of retro silhouettes, patterns and fashionforward glamour. Soft pastels and feather-weight patterns lent a soft touch to workwear pieces like a trench coat, blazer and pencil skirt. Even her cutout leather mermaid gown had just the right mix of soft and strong. Sarah’s feminine yet structured collection was appropriately named “Pretty Business.”

Jennifer Nina Evans
Jennifer Nina Evans strives to find beauty in the most unlikely places, especially where society only sees an ugly duckling. Fresh from her debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, the SS 14 Collection Addiction shown at South Walton Fashion Week includes soft pastels in custom-made fabrics that seem to float down the runway juxtaposed with tough leather jackets, a slight nod to punk style and strong black and white. Jennifer’s inspiration was the journey of a socialite having a well put together life on the outside with little details shining through from a rebellious youth.

68 30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013
FASHION FEATURE
30A Street Style recently invaded the closet of Closetini blogger Sarah Powers at the Sandestin condo she shares with hubby Nathan. With a penchant for mixing high-low pieces, you can find this budget-conscious fashionista combining luxe accessories like her vintage Chanel clutch (found at a thrift shop!) with a blazer from Forever21 or pairing an Old Navy button-down with Christian Louboutin heels. What Sarah might lack in space, she more than makes up for with smart and stylish pieces hanging from the racks. “I don’t have a Mariah Carey sized closet. I have to make the most out of the space I have.” Amen, sista! Here Sarah confesses 8 secrets for staying stylish and keeping her closet organized:
1 2
PATIENCE IS KEY. Avoid impulse shopping. I rarely pay retail for anything. If I want something, I stalk it online or in stores until I find it for less. If I obsess over something and still want it after a few months, I’m not going to regret buying it.
3
BUDGET FOR INVESTMENT PIECES. Save up for big ticket items and opt for classic vs trendy. I’ll save certain pieces in my favorites online just to see if it goes on sale. I always go for timeless, quality pieces over trendy items for handbags. My Louis Vuitton bags are durable and go everywhere.
THINK AHEAD. Look for classic pieces that will stand the test of time. When it comes to designer items, go for basics. For trendy items, think about how long you will be able to wear that item. I’ve actually had some of the items in my closet since high school.
“I don’t have one style. my closet has multiple personalities.”
4
BE SELECTIVE WHEN SHOPPING FOR TRENDS. I used to wear
only black, but gradually incorporated more color and prints. I look for trendy items at a lower price point, but still try to buy the best quality from those stores. I love J. Crew prints, The Florida House sweaters and Forever21.

a few of sarah’s favorite steals at a fraction of the price: A vintage Chanel clutch; Elizabeth and James boots, Jean-Michel Cazabat heels, a Trina Turk jumpsuit, Pour La Victoire handbag and Diane Von Furstenberg heels. Sounds like we’ve found our new shopping buddy!
5 6 7
THINK TOP TO BOTTOM AND SIDE TO SIDE. Be consistent
about how you organize so you can always find what you need. My hangers are all the same color. I keep my nicer things up top so they’re out of the way for everyday and I organzie all of my hanging clothes by season and color. DON’T THROW AWAY BOXES. I utilize everything! I always
keep shoe boxes and dust bags. All of my clutches are stored in a Louis box from another purchase. The boxes look pretty in the closet and keep those items protected but visible. EXTEND YOUR CLOSET SPACE. I have a lot of stuff so I have
to figure out how to get it out of the way. I keep jewelry and sunglasses in a chest in the living room and have a rack of coats and cocktail dresses in the guest room.
8
TAKE CARE OF YOUR WARDROBE. I steal
my husband’s packing paper and put it in my boots to keep them stiff and standing upright on the shelf. I also don’t wash things like denim and sweaters everytime I wear them. Getting dressed is fun and I want my wardrobe to last.

72 30A STREET STYLE - FALL / WINTER 2013
MAKEUP Lesson 30A Street Style asked MAC Makeup Artist HEATHER DOSSEY for her best fall / winter makeup trends and how we can get the look on our own. “A dark smoky eye is classic but this season we’re seeing it in a variety of shades that really amp up the eyes. Plus, it complements metal and leather trends that are in style this season. We’ve been seeing lips get darker in more wine and deep berry shades. Much like fashion is all about the drama this season, makeup is taking a dramatic turn as well.
Let the drama begin!
START WITH A FRESH FOUNDATION.
Use a brush to apply foundation and set with translucent powder. We primed lids with the MAC Paint Pot.
LAYER MASCARA. A gel-based
mascara won’t get as clumpy and is perfect for layering coats to get lush lashes. Wiggle the brush and extend to cover each eyelash evenly. Add more to outside lashes for a more dramatic look.
SMOKY EYES DON’T HAVE TO BE BLACK. Use a crayon in bronzy brown, rust or
gray like the MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder. Crayons are easier to “smoke out” the liner with a pencil brush. After using a brow highlighter, layer shadows from dark to light. (Putting the eyeliner on first helps achieve the flawless blend).
GO FOR RICH LIPS. Be sure lips are
moisturized with no dry skin. Add lip color in short strokes to get the smoothest edge. Continue layering until for a deeper hue until you reach the desired richness.
FINISH WITH BLUSH. Contour with
bronzer just under cheekbones. Swipe blush almost like a Nike swoop just above bronzer, down the cheek then up just a bit. With darker lips, try using a blue-based blush (vs pink or peach).
