Man is a natural born builder! He raises the most amazing buildings, and continually dreams up the most innovative creations, such as that of the Water Discus Underwater Hotel in Dubai, set to become the first underwater hotel complex in the world. Or take, for example, the Webber Wave Pool, which will provide surfers with programmed world class surf breaks at any time of day! For generation upon generation, we Homo sapiens continue to shape our own world, to fashion our own future. Will the Boosted Board—a longboard on track to become the lightest electrical vehicle ever—slowly revolutionise the way we travel short distances? Mankind’s inventions are sometimes useful, sometimes futile; but they all have one thing in common: they open up new horizons. These new ideas create experiences that keep us moving forward on a path that endlessly leads us further, higher. Slackline enthusiasts, or Manu Bouvet and his companion, Carine Camboulives—who set off in search of idyllic spots for Stand Up Paddle in the Polynesian islands of Tuamotu—would most certainly agree. As we are all irresistibly drawn towards the future, each of us is looking for our place, our own little corner of paradise, our means of escape from the daily routine. Some set themselves new personal challenges by taking off on a mountain endurance trail, such as the all-new Matterhorn Ultraks. Others hone their social skills, or seek contentment in a bubble, or dive heart and soul into the waters off Mauritius. To each his or her own anchor. A multi-sport devotee by nature and par excellence, 30º also sees itself as a builder. A builder of bridges—between disciplines, between people. Through the vast array of challenges chronicled in its pages, it provides, in three languages and on paper as well as on the iPad (with multiple bonus features), a truly contemporary picture of the world which foreshadows that of tomorrow. Treat yourself to a subscription, or gift one to a friend, and join us on our never-ending journey of discovery!

THE TuamotuS In this Pacific archipelago, beneath the airborne lens of photographer Ben Thouard, rider Manu Bouvet and his partner Carine Camboulives uncovered a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) spot where they were able to enjoy an incredible session amid the beauty of these half-submerged islands

Photographed by Ben Thouard from a paramotor 30 m above the water, rider Manu Bouvet soars along, just above the coral reefs, on his Stand-Up Paddle board.

Photographer Nicolas Sedlatcheck, a seasoned slackliner himself, has followed the top Swiss specialists of the sport’s highline variant to Pontresina, in the Grisons, where they have rigged a new line 30 meters up in the air and backdropped by a frozen waterfall.

Zermatt The race is on, again!

The Valais ski resort is getting set to host the Matterhorn Ultraks, a new endurance challenge comprising two events: the Skialp, a biennial ski mountaineering race held in April, and the Trail, which will pit runners against each other every summer.

Surf photographers must be ready to throw themselves right into the water, as shown here in the pristine waters of Fiji (Fijian Volcom Pro, June 2012).

Sarah Lee Captures the Sea This young Hawaiian, specialized in underwater and surfing photography, captures beautiful images tinted with surrealism. The proof is in the photos.

Continents collide

in the Swatch Skiers Cup Inspired by golf ’s Ryder Cup, the Swatch Skiers Cup is a thrilling annual face-off between Europe and America’s finest freeriders. We have the details on the third of these mighty continental clashes, which took place in Zermatt on 10-15 February.

The lunar landscape of the Tibetan plateau as seen through the windows of the "Sky Train" linking Xining to Lhasa. The trip lasts over 22 hours, and the train reaches an altitude of over 5000 meters. Since the train is not pressurised, and the high altitude may be felt, the train is equipped with a system that releases oxygen into the carriages.

Tibet

Mountains knocking on heaven’s door With turquoise lakes, ancient temples and Himalayan giants, trekking through this country is a journey of never-ending awe. An unforgettable, mythical, mystical experience.
