Mastering Mark on Three Sundays in March
the final chapter of Paul’s letter. The truth is, after reading that statement in its proper context, just one time, I understood it better than every before. Mark’s gospel is filled with interesting and engaging texts, and many things will become clear for you as you hear them as they were meant to be heard.
We are going to have a unique opportunity on 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018. John Robinson, a retired teacher from Greensboro will be here at New Philadelphia sharing his one man play “The Gospel According to St. Mark.” In less than two hours, John will present the entire text of the Across the Gospel of Mark. It will not be Pastor’s Desk... a reading, but a dramatization, that will make the words come to life. This is a wonderful opportunity, because we will be able to hear the Gospel of Mark as it was meant to be heard, not in snatches, but as a whole. This makes a huge difference in one’s understanding, for a text without a context is a pretext. We will get the context! Once, while at Princeton Seminary, a professor charged our class with reading Paul’s Letter to the Romans ten times in one evening. The professor did this so we could understand a single statement in
In preparation for John’s presentation hold two session on Mark’s gospel, at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday the 4th, and one at the same hour on Sunday the 11th. I will be speaking primarily about content, which should enhance your understanding of the gospel all the more.
I am really looking forward to John’s presentation on the 18th, and I am looking forward to the two study sessions, too. I hope that many of will be able to participate. Blessings, Pastor Green
Ash Wednesday prayer - Catholic Household Blessings & Prayers Merciful God, you called us forth from the dust of the earth; you claimed us for Christ in the waters of baptism. Look upon us as we enter these Forty Days bearing the mark of ashes, and bless our journey through the desert of Lent to the font of rebirth. May our fasting be hunger for justice; our alms, a making of peace; our prayer, the chant of humble and grateful hearts.
