New Philadelphia News Across the Pastor’s Desk Each One Reach One
in our hearts—the heart being the center of the mind, emotions and will, and, with gentleness and reverence we are to:
Not every Christian is expected to be an evangelist. In Ephesians 4:11-12, the apostle writes that:
“Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you.”
“When Christ ascended on high he gave gifts to humankind, and his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastor/teachers to equip the saints/members for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”
Every Christian should have a God-Story to tell his family, friends and neighbors. Our stories do not have to be all alike; but they must be genuine.
Not every Christian is expected to be an evangelist, but Every Christian is expected to be a witness. In Acts chapter 1, the risen Christ told his disciples that, following the reception of the Holy Spirit, they would be his witnesses, at home in Jerusalem, in the surrounding neighborhood of Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Witness can be non-verbal. The Holy Spirit has given each of us gifts that we are to use in the service of God, and one another. I once had a man tell me that he could not teach a Sunday school class, or pray in public, but if the church needed a woodworker, he was willing. Later, he with six other “woodworkers,” who were really just his assistance, he built for that church a 23 rank pipe organ valued, at the time, at more than a quarter of a million dollars. Witness can also be verbal. In 1st Peter 3:15 the apostle writes that we are to reverence Christ as Lord
There is something else that a witness can do to make sure his family, friends, and neighbors hear the Good News of the Gospel of Christ. The witness can invite them to church. I recently read an interesting static. Two percent of people attend church because of some form of advertising. Six percent of people attend church because they are invited by a member of the pastoral staff. Eighty-six percent of people attend church because they were invited by another member. Thirty-seven percent of people who are converted to Christianity like the critical change to the fact that someone invited them to church. It is all good. Except for one thing: Only two percent of Church members invite others to church. Over the years, hospitality has worked for New Philadelphia. It can do so once more. Let’s press on. EACH ONE REACH ONE. Pastor Green

Missions and Social Concerns Ross McNeil and Erin Key attended Missions Meeting and discussed upcoming youth mission trips in 2016. Details will be released at a later date. They are working very hard to raise funds. Hats off to the congregation for helping raise $5704.32 for the Coins for Cuba project. Joe Jarvis, Bruce Ledwith, Evon Crooks, and Ron Vogler will be leaving on November 13 to install water filters and to visit more areas in Cuba. They will be taking with them 200 Gideon Bibles donated by the Gideons, “What is a Moravian” brochure from our congregation, pillowcase dresses made by our Women’s Fellowship and also Unity Moravian Women’s Fellowship, T-shirts and a few small items. New Friendship Class has donated goody bags for adult women. Sam Gray is traveling with them. Please keep this group in your prayers. They will be gone for 11 days. Monies disbursed this month: $1000 Forsyth Prison Ministry, $1000 Ann and Robert Thiessen missionaries in Mexico, $670 Kevin and Charity Manous. It was voted to donate $500 to Senior Services. They are doing great work with Alzheimer’s patients. I am sorry if you missed the Mission Lovefeast on November 1. It was a great program with Michael and Caroline Woo speaking. What an inspiration they are. Keep them and their children in your prayers as Caroline continues her chemo treatments for cancer. You can become a member of the Mission Society for $25.00 a year. That monies helps support the above list of missionaries. Contact Sheila Beamon in the Mission Office for information. Volunteers are needed for Meals on Wheels and Sunnyside Ministry. Please consider one of these or one of the other organizations mentioned on the list for 12 Days of Christmas service. Our committee will not meet in December. We wish to thank all of you for your support in 2015. Because of you we have been able to meet our budget and have some monies to begin 2016. We do have a very mission minded congregation and we are grateful for that. Thanks to all the organizations, Sunday School classes and individuals that share their monies, talent and prayers to further God’s Kingdom. Sometimes we get discouraged but never forget that if we change one person’s life, we have done God’s will. Blessings to you for the holidays. Next meeting will be January 10,2016.

Scouting News This month Troop 715 has had a very productive time. As the year is coming to a close, many scouts are spending more time on badges, ranks, and friendships. Over the past few months our troop has been strengthened more and more, and friendships between the veteran scouts and the newest scouts are becoming even more common. A Scout’s main goal is to make himself prepared for life on his own. Whether this is training outdoors by camping, learning how to budget money for when he has a house, or just learning how to be a man, this is a Scout’s overall objective. When you have learned enough to be able to take on the world, you can go for your Eagle Badge. But first, you must get all of the previous ranks. To get Scouts their ranks more efficiently, we have decided that from now on, the first Monday of each odd numbered month (ex. November is the 11th month) will be dedicated to rank advancements. Scouts will have an opportunity to have Scoutmaster Conferences, and meet with Boards of Review, to show the knowledge they have gained as they progress through the ranks. Our camping trip this month was a zip lining trip, which was a blast! After leaving at about 6:00 PM on a Friday, we started our drive to Carolina Zip Lines near Hanging Rock State Park. After we got there, the scouts played a game until it was time for bed. Before we did any real zip lining, we had a small safety talk with our guide. The first line was a “practice” line to get scouts used to the zip lining. Scouts went to the real course after this and it was fun! After zip lining, scouts played soccer with a Cub Scout pack that was camping next to us. After playing for what seemed like days, we cooked dinner and headed off to bed. The next morning we packed everything back up and headed home.
Page 3
Our upcoming camping trip is to Raven Knob to learn and demonstrate skills for the Klondike Derby coming up in January. We also hope to have a “ground breaking” for the Nathan Clark Project. Our goal is to have the Picnic Shelter and at least one Hammock Hang-Out built by June 2016. Thank you to those who bought the Nathan Clark Memorial Badge, as it will help fund these projects. Also, coming up, we will participate in the Candle Tea in Old Salem in December, have our Troop Elections for leadership positions, and have our Christmas Party to look forward to. It will be a busy few months. This year is ending with a lot of activity from our troop, and we look forward to ending the year in great ways!
Daily Texts are available in the church office and in the vestibule. Use the envelopes in each Texts to submit your payment. Large print $12 Paperback regular print $9
Popcorn sales just ended, and all of the scouts did very well. Most scouts sold close to or above their goals. A lot of scouts use the ‘camp cash’ that they get from popcorn sales to pay for Summer Camp, camping trips, and other expenses that scouts might come across. We did very well, and we thank all of those who bought popcorn from our scouts. © 2015 New Philadelphia Moravian Church
