EDITOR’S NOTE.
We hope you enjoy the issue! On a personal note, I would like to extend my continued thanks to the many artists, designers, shops, advertisers, friends and family members who have helped make MeetMinnie magazine a possibility. We would not be here without your support, and I cannot thank you enough. Your kindness has been overwhelming.
Welcome to the Summer 2014 issue of MeetMinnie magazine! We’re thrilled you stopped by. Hello, summer! It’s finally here, and it’s time to unwind. Here at MeetMinnie, we love just about everything about summer. Sunny getaways. Lingering, carefree days. But more than anything, we love the freedom summer brings. In summer, we are free to do, free to be, free to reinvent ourselves. Summer is also the perfect time to experiment with personal style. So let’s take a dip. In our first story, Bathing Beauty, we’ve collected an array of swimsuits perfect for your changing summer moods. Feeling romantic? Classic? Wild? Turn to page 21 to find a suit to suit your swim style. Next, we’re excited to present a new feature titled Meet Minnie. We’ve asked one of our favorite illustrators, Ruth of x + y = , to depict our muse, and we’re thrilled with the result! See Meet Minnie, pg. 30, to learn more about Ruth and her work.
To our readers, thank you for taking the time to check out MeetMinnie magazine. As always, if you have comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to email us at hello@meetminnie.com. We’d love to hear from you! To read more about the story behind MeetMinnie magazine, see Questions, pg. 54. Have a lovely summer! XOXO,
Michelle Musson P.S. Stop by in December for the next issue of MeetMinnie magazine. In the meantime, keep up with us at Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and on our blog! (See pg. 58 for links.)

bathing beauty. Suits to fit your every swim style.
the romantic.
BATHING BEAUTY
Universally flattering, this high-waisted floral bikini has music festival written all over it. We suggest pairing it with a slouchy summer sweater, beachy waves and wayfarers.
the modern.
BATHING BEAUTY
We’re crazy for the modern mermaid vibe of this highwaisted one-piece halter suit. And paired with a messy chignon, gladiator sandals and a motorcycle jacket? #EffortlessCool.
the wild.
BATHING BEAUTY
We all have our wild child days. And there’s no denying the appeal of this leafprinted bandeau bikini. We love the look of it peeking out from beneath a gauzy white summer dress, paired with a great gold bangle and a warm summer glow.
the classic.
BATHING BEAUTY
Feeling like a beach ballerina? This ruffled blush and black one-piece looks straight from the studio. And paired with a sheer or black lace midi skirt (Why not go vintage?), ballet flats and a high bun? Pretty as a picture.
Products subject to availability. See pg. 55 for details.

Meet Minnie. I L L U S T R AT I O N B Y

MEET MINNIE Years ago, when MeetMinnie was just an idea, we created our muse, our Minnie. You know Minnie. She’s the effortlessly cool, stylish girl in each of us. But we’ve kept her vague, never putting a face to the name. For this issue, we asked one of our favorite illustrators, Ruth of x + y = , to do just that, and she captured Minnie beautifully.
About the Artist: Ruth of x + y = has long been in love with two things: fashion and drawing. Since graduating in 2007 with a first class honours degree in Fine Art for Design, Ruth started her own fashion label and worked to help other creative practitioners establish and run their own businesses, but in 2013 decided to pursue her enduring ambition of becoming a fashion illustrator. Inspired by a mix of street style, vintage trends and high-end catwalk couture, with a penchant for capturing less conventional beauty, Ruth’s work is predominantly pencil based. Mixed media is added digitally to create the finished, often minimalist, image. Since September 2013, x + y = has been regularly drawing for online culture blogs, Amelia’s Magazine which quickly led to work from Lulu Liu, Lynne MacLachlan, and Tomfoolery LDN, and now MeetMinnie with several collaborative projects underway, set to launch Summer 2014. For more information on x + y = , visit www.xplusyequals.co.uk.

1 9 DESIGNS
how-to: tools & materials:
plastic tote bag with holes, sisal rope
instructions:
Step 1: Feed sisal rope in and out of holes in bag, forming a pattern. Step 2: When one row is complete, cut and tie off rope inside bag. Step 3: Repeat pattern as desired, tying off each row. Step 4: Finish off the bag with a sisal knot or, for a tougher look, try a bit of hardware.
WOVEN TOTE.

LEAFED CANVASES.
2 how-to: tools & materials:
canvases in various sizes, silver leaf, brushes (one soft for applying leaf, one for paint), adhesive size, wax paper, leaf sealer, acrylic paint
instructions:
Step 1: Brush adhesive size onto front and sides of canvas and allow to cure according to bottle directions. Step 2: Once adhesive is tacky, leaf can be applied. Press a sheet of wax paper against a silver leaf sheet to grab and transfer to canvas. Step 3: Lay sheet of silver leaf on canvas and gently smooth out with brush. Step 4: Repeat, layering leaf until entire canvas is covered. Brush away excess as you go. Step 5: Smooth out surface with brush and remove any loose silver leaf. Step 6: Brush sealer all over canvas and let dry. Step 7: Paint geometric shapes onto canvas and let dry.

9 DESIGNS
how-to: tools & materials:
t-shirt, scissors, ruler, needle & thread to match shirt
instructions:
Step 1: Try on T-shirt to decide where to crop. Mark crop line with pins across front of shirt. Step 2: Lay out T-shirt on a table. Cut off sleeves at seams and cut off bottom hem. Step 3: Find center of T-shirt from left to right and mark with a pin. Step 4: Cut line at center from bottom of shirt to marked crop line. Step 5: Measure 3/4” to the right and cut another line to crop line. Step 6: Repeat until you’ve cut three strips to right of center line. Step 7: Repeat on left side of center line, making three 3/4” strips. You will now have six strips cut in the front of your T-shirt. Step 8: Fold strips over front of T-shirt to get them out of the way and cut off the rest of the T-shirt at the crop line. Step 9: Pull on cut strips until they stretch out and form strings. Step 10: Make two braids using the strings you’ve cut. Step 11: Pull one braid to the left and sew in place at bottom of shirt. Step 12: Repeat with the right. Hand wash only.

QUESTIONS.
Who is Minnie? Minnie is our muse, a character we created for the magazine. In our minds, Minnie is that girl, the one who makes a $5 T-shirt look couture. The one who rocks a choppy pixie cut with ease. Leather shorts? No problem. Mixing prints? In her sleep. She’s the one who takes chances. The one who pulls it all off with attitude alone. But why does she get to have all the fun? We’re all a bit Minnie. And there the concept for MeetMinnie was born. Can I buy MeetMinnie magazine in print? Not at this time. MeetMinnie is exclusively an online publication, available at www.meetminnie.com. How can I get my shop or brand featured in MeetMinnie magazine? We are always on the lookout for new shops, products and brands to feature in the pages of MeetMinnie. If you think your shop or brand fits our aesthetic, email us at submissions@meetminnie.com. Be sure to include a link to your site or lookbook.
How often is MeetMinnie published? When will the next issue be online? MeetMinnie magazine is published semiannually. The next issue will be online in December 2014. How do I keep up with the latest news at MeetMinnie magazine? It’s easy! For the latest news and information about MeetMinnie magazine, take a minute to sign up for our mailing list.
