We were so thrilled you liked our 9 Designs story in the Summer issue that we brought it back! Our winter version features a collection of simple (and gift-worthy) DIY projects perfect for snowy days to come. (See 9 Designs, pg. 25.)

EDITOR’S NOTE.

Hello and welcome to the Winter 2013 issue of MeetMinnie magazine! We’re thrilled you stopped by! This issue is particularly special to us as it marks MeetMinnie‘s one-year anniversary! It’s hard to believe it has been a year since this adventure began. In our first year, we’ve been so lucky to connect with inspiring people all over the world, and for that we are especially grateful. With so much in the works, we cannot help but be excited for the future! With that, we celebrate winter. Here at MeetMinnie, we love just about everything about winter: cool weather, cool colors, cool parties. (And why not throw in a cool car?) In this issue of MeetMinnie, we’ve kept the palette cool and the content cooler. We begin with gifting. Firm believers that thought and presentation outshine price, we’ve designed some playful twists on holiday wrapping sure to sparkle. (See Gifted, pg. 19.)

Finally, in each issue we try to spotlight a key wardrobe element. This time it’s a concept. The his & hers notion has long been a cornerstone of the MeetMinnie style. This winter, we love the idea of blending his oxfords and her ballet flats with practically everything. Check out His + Hers on pg. 47 for our take. We hope you enjoy the issue!

On a personal note, I would like to extend my continued thanks to the many artists, designers, shops, advertisers, friends and family members who have helped make MeetMinnie magazine a possibility in this first year. We would not be here without your support, and I cannot thank you enough. Your kindness has been overwhelming.

P.S. Stop by in June for the next issue of MeetMinnie magazine! In the meantime, keep up with us at Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and on our blog! (See pg. 60 for links.) We just might have some surprises in store!

To our readers, thank you for taking the time to check out MeetMinnie magazine. As always, if you have comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to email us at hello@meetminnie.com. We’d love to hear from you! To read more about the story behind MeetMinnie magazine, see Questions, pg. 56. Have a lovely winter! XOXO,

Michelle Musson

PROJECTS

designs.

9

1 9 DESIGNS

how-to: materials:

canvas zippered tool pouch, assorted buttons, needle and thread to match

instructions:

Step 1: Lay out buttons to design pattern. Step 2: Sew buttons onto pouch. Spot clean only.

We love the way this utilitarian canvas pouch mixes with this sparkly array of buttons. So chic for day or evening.

SPARKLE CLUTCH.

9 DESIGNS

KNIT STOOLS.

2 how-to: materials:

stools, yarn in assorted colors

instructions:

Step 1: Tie yarn in a knot around top of one stool leg. Step 2: Stretch yarn directly across top of stool to left of opposite leg. Step 3: Bring yarn underneath to opposite side of next leg clockwise. Step 4: Stretch yarn across top to opposite side of opposite leg, creating an X. Step 5: Bring yarn underneath to opposite side of next leg counterclockwise. Step 6: Stretch yarn across top to same side as opposite leg and bring underneath to opposite side of next leg counterclockwise. Step 7: Repeat step 6 until entire stool is covered, attaching new pieces of yarn as needed by knotting underneath. Step 8: When stool is covered, knot off yarn securely underneath. If desired, finish by wrapping yarn in a contrasting color in a band around center of stool. Knot securely underneath.

3

9 DESIGNS

how-to: materials:

various gems and minerals (we used pyrite marbles and copper barrel balls), band rings, extra-strength jewelry adhesive

instructions:

Step 1: Affix stone to band ring using jewelry adhesive, following instructions on bottle. Step 2: Let dry as directed.

ROCK RINGS.

9 DESIGNS

COIL WREATHS.

4 how-to: materials:

beads (we used large unfinished wooden faceted beads and large silver painted wooden beads), thick gauge floral wire, thin gauge floral wire, pliers, wire cutters

instructions:

Step 1: String beads onto thick gauge floral wire until desired length is reached. Step 2: Snip wire at both ends and use pliers to bend down ends, securing beads. Step 3: Coil beaded wire, creating a circular form. Step 4: Wire strands together using thin gauge floral wire.

We’re in love with the industrial look of visible wire, but wrapping the wreath with cord or rope to cover the wire would be rad, too. Play with it!

5 9 DESIGNS

how-to: materials:

hoop earrings, scalloped lace, needle and thread to match

instructions:

Step 1: Assign left and right earrings. Step 2: Cut lace to fit around hoop earring and wrap around edges so that stitches will face inward when earrings are worn. Step 3: Hand stitch lace to hoop earring on one side, then the other. Step 4: Repeat on other earring.

LACE HOOPS.

9 DESIGNS

LACE SWEATER.

6 how-to: materials:

lightweight sweater, lace, needle and thread to match

instructions:

Step 1: Lay out lace on sweater to plan design. Step 2: Trim lace to desired shape and length. Step 3: Baste lace in place. Step 4: Hand stitch lace using small stitches. To care for sweater, hand wash after wear.

7 9 DESIGNS

how-to: materials:

wooden birch rounds (at least 2.5 in diameter), acrylic paint, clear acrylic sealer, cleaning cloth

instructions:

Step 1: Wipe off surface of birch rounds to prepare for paint. Step 2: Dot paint in random spots on one birch round. Step 3: Place another birch round on top of the painted birch round with right sides facing in. Step 4: Press rounds together, then gently separate. Step 5: Let dry, then apply clear acrylic sealer as desired. These coasters are impossibly easy, and yet they might just be our new favorite thing!

PAINT SPLOTCH COASTERS.

GRID RUNNER.

8 how-to: materials:

fabric table runner, black fabric marker, rocks, pencil, white paint pen

instructions:

Step 1: Measure out pattern and pencil in lines. Step 2: Go over lines with black fabric marker. (Important: Place cardboard or paper behind runner to prevent bleeding onto table/surface.) Step 3: Paint X’s and O’s on rocks using paint pen. Let dry. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a game of tic-tac-toe at the dinner table?

9

9 DESIGNS

how-to: materials:

bleach, pinecones, glass bowl or other non-reactive container, another non-reactive object to weigh down pinecones, monofilament, removable hooks for hanging (optional)

instructions:

Step 1: Follow safety instructions on bleach container and work in a wellventilated area or outside. Step 2: Pour bleach into glass bowl or other open non-reactive container and add pinecones so that bleach fully covers them. Gently place another nonreactive object on top to help the pinecones remain submerged. Step 3: Let pinecones sit in bleach until desired color is reached. Step 4: Remove pinecones from bleach, rinse off and let dry. PInecones will reopen when dry. As you can see, pinecones look flower-like from above. That’s why we love the thought of hanging them horizontally on a window or wall, or even from a light fixture. Simply tie monofilament around the middle of each pinecone to hang and enjoy a gorgeous natural mobile!

+ Sure, we love being girls. And borrowing from the boys? Major perk. This winter, we’re mixing oxfords and ballet flats with just about everything. And loving every minute. Here are a few of our favorites.

HIS + HERS

Bows, meet ties. When mixing his & hers, why not start with a classic? These two pairs perfectly illustrate the beauty of basic black. His = menswear details. Hers = two perfect bows. Our recipe? Pair with anything and everything. Repeat.

HIS + HERS

You’re a rule-breaker, right? Then we don’t have to tell you how fresh it looks to mix shades of white into your winter basics. But how about scalloped flats paired with a tailored black tuxedo and his nubuck oxfords with a little black knit dress? Pure. Cool.

HIS + HERS

A shock of silver? You bet. Studs? Tell me about it. From afternoons to after-hours, these unexpected twists on classic oxfords and ballet flats just plain rock. Why not make any time party time?

QUESTIONS.

Who is Minnie? Minnie is our muse, a character we created for the magazine. In our minds, Minnie is that girl, the one who makes a $5 T-shirt look couture. The one who rocks a choppy pixie cut with ease. Leather shorts? No problem. Mixing prints? In her sleep. She’s the one who takes chances. The one who pulls it all off with attitude alone. But why does she get to have all the fun? We’re all a bit Minnie. And there the concept for MeetMinnie was born. Can I buy MeetMinnie magazine in print? Not at this time. MeetMinnie is exclusively an online publication, available at www.meetminnie.com. How can I get my shop or brand featured in MeetMinnie magazine? We are always on the lookout for new shops, products and brands to feature in the pages of MeetMinnie. If you think your shop or brand fits our aesthetic, email us at submissions@meetminnie.com. Be sure to include a link to your site or lookbook.

How often is MeetMinnie magazine published? When will the next issue be online? MeetMinnie magazine is published semiannually. The next issue will be online in June 2014. How do I keep up with the latest news at MeetMinnie magazine? It’s easy! For the latest news and information about MeetMinnie magazine, take a minute to sign up for our mailing list.
