Ecofriendly Receipt
9
BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM Too many receipts
We keep gathering receipts, traffic tickets and bills everyday which will end up as a lot of trash. Even though we can receive some of them in digital format, there are some situations in which we still need them in paper format. There are also some people who do not feel comfortable with digital items, so we thought - can we do something about it?
CONCEPT Renewable Source
11
Lots of receipts everyday. If the receipts can be turned into renewable sources, the concept would in the end be very ecofriendly.
We want to create a new kind of paper that has seeds inside. When the paper no longer is needed, just bury it in the dirt and it will become another plant! This material can be applied to receipts, tickets or other short life-spanned paper products.
IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES Interviews & Direct observation
The direction of these questions is mainly in the behavior of taking receipts to know more about the thought the consumers consider when they come up with receipts.

Establishing Functions
15
Determining Characteristics
Evaluating Alternatives
THIS IS HOW WE DID IT
First we had to make paper pulp by soaking some paper in water. After making it wet and soft we put them in a blender.
Filter the paper pulp with grid board - the bigger fiber will stay on the net. Put it in the oven and dry out all the water for one day.
17
After a study on different seeds we chose to use seeds that have more capacity of heat and pressure. In this attempt we used tomato seeds, which are small and can stand the heat.
It Really works!
In some places a crack occurs when the sheet goes through the printer. This is due to an uneven spread of the pulp, something which should be improved in the future.

Meterial Study Agar
21
EXPERIMENT
To find out agar's diversity of property, we do many kinds of testing, include adding color, oyster shell, fiber, even bury seeds into it.
23
Procedure of making agar jelly
Adding color
Soak agar fiber into hot water for 30 minute, and then put it into boil pot, keep stiring until all the agar fiber turn into liquid.
The effect of adding color didn't as good as we expect, we hope them can have more transparency
EXPERIMENT
Mix with oyster shell
Oyster shell cannot increase the hardness as it also will interrupt the agar's structure.
Adding fiber
We tried adding celery to see if celery fiber can make agar stronger. But it turns out that celery fiber will interrupt the agar's structure and make it fall apart more easily.
25
Buried seeds
To see if the water it contains can make seeds grow. A few days later the seeds started germinating, but the water inside also made it become moldy. Sweet pepper seeds
Green beens
Mildew
Water control
In view of the mildew situation, we have to do something to put the water out, so that the agar can be preserved.
TESTING
To test the agar brick we made, we tested it through some machining procedure. It turns out that the agar brick was strong enough to make a simple product model.
APPLICATION
27
We made the agar brick into a flowerpot.Agar is an eco-friendly product and when the plant is dead or the flowerplot is useless it can be buried in the ground. The agar fiber will atomatically decomposite.
Bury usless flowerpot into groud
Bacteria will decomposite the agar

PRESS FOR FUN
29
CONCEPT
+
+
Behind our design is the idea of a toy for children which would enhance their experience in making things on their own. We wanted to create a procedure through which children can learn to recognize different fruits, identify colors and train hand-eye coordination. What we have designed is a juicer for kids that is safe and can be used without electricity. The rounded working space allows for 2-3 users at the same time which allows children to cooperate and have fun together.
TARGET USER Children, with a parent next to them
31
USER PROCESS
Parents help by preparing the fruit for the kid, and let the kids do the rest of the procedure.
Kids can play with their parents or their friend. After they have finished, they can share the juice with each other.
HOW IT WORKS Safety Part
The cover is design into double layer, the screw thread inside just like the child-proof bottle.
Children can only rotate the upper part themselves. If the cover needs to be opened, the parent has to do it. In this case, we can make sure that children have no chance of touching the blades inside.
The smiling mouth has a little hole in which fruit can be put to slide into the cup, without the need to remove the cover.
33
Mechanical Part
screw thread inside
spring
screw thread pushing platform
The mechanical model was inspired by a mop. The basket can spin by treading the bar
There is a screw thread inside the cylinder so that when the platform outside the cup is pushed, the screw will make the blade spin. And so, the juicer can work by mechanical power.
NXT BABY CART
35
CONCEPT
The purpose was to produce a concept design of a high-intelligent baby stroller. The idea is that the stroller can provide practical functions for the parent and entertainment for the children. We chose to build our model with LEGO and use Mindstorms to make the prototype.
FUNCTIONS
The stroller has a fold-out platform on which the parents can put items or change the baby's diaper. When finished, a button can be pressed and the platform will be folded and hidden under the seat.
Color sensor
Adjustable platform
The color sensor is placed in front of the baby seat. The baby can reach for the sensor and move it horizontally. When the sensor registers change of colors, it will automatically change songs. Different songs are triggered by different colors.
37
Button control
Pressing the right button twice will make the baby stroller move along a fixed route. We added the function as we learnt that a change of scenes can comfort an anxious baby. The stroller will steadily move along a route that the parent set, so that the parent can take a rest and do not have to worry about the child's safety.
ICE BUCKET CONCEPT
Napkin and ice bucket always appear together, because something is needed to wipe the water that comes from the ice bucket. Therefore I used napkin as an image when designing the appereance of an ice bucket.
39
INTERACTION DESIGN Changing color with music beat
background is the settinglight at the high class night club, so the music will play all night. My idea is to match the music beats and light, and the light will change with beating. This will provide the customer with a tasting, light stimulation.

SEARCHING DYEING MATERIALS
Pigment testing
We did lots of research on how can we get the color we wnat and keep them stick on the frabic, We have tried chemical pigment and natural pigments from plants.
45
Collect fabric
To find the frabic that is suitable for dyeing, we do lots of experiment on frabic. We have tried cotton, nylon, slik.we also put fabric into NAOH to remove impurities
SEARCHING DYEING MATERIALS Extract color from plant Plants that we selected. Each plant. Our idea is to use material from nature, so we chose plants found at our university campus. The product is not only eco-friendly, but also represents our university NCKU.

47
Create patterns How to tie different patterns is part of our design. We created four kinds of patterns. A rubber band was used to tie the fabric, and other tools were used as assistance.
IDEATION Ideation of adapting dyeing to products
49
PROCEDURE Pigment extraction We collected different leaves to extract pigment - each kind of leaves has different color.
51
PROCEDURE Dyeing the fabric We tied the fabric in different ways to make the pigment attach onto the fabric differently to create patterns.
53
The fabric was put into the pot to boil with the leaves. This step had to be repeated many times to let more pigment be soaked into the fabric. In the end of the procedure, we wrapped the fabric with aluminium. Aluminium ions interact with pigment, letting the color stay longer.

CHAIR-43 This chair is made by 43 pieces of bamboo, so its name is "chair 43". This project is about helping a technologist mass produce his work. Our goal is to design molds to normalization the bamboo element and put it into mass production.
57
MATERIAL TESTING
Experimental Design
Experimental element Independent variables : Angle / Steaming time Dependent variables : Force
Bamboo is an organic material, so it will definitly spring back when we put force on it. We have to do some test on the correlation between spring back angle and and other variables, and make sure it won't crack when we put force on it
PROCEDURE
59
Soften the fiber of bamboo with steam, steaming time is one of the virables. About the mold, we use CNC milling the wood and then use hand tools to revise the ages and fix them together. After bending, we put it into oven to fry the water inside and keep the shape.

RESULT ANALYSIS
angle
We measure the angle change after takeing it out of oven. Collect all bamboo sample's data make them into diagram to see regular pattern of the spring back angle. This is the fisrt stage of material study, this project will keep working on until the chair can fix into production line.
