What is a Domestic Cat Domestic cats can be useful animals; they can help humans in many ways. Domestic cats are small mammals that live with people for many years. People keep them as pets, use them as hunters, and even care for them as gods. They belong to the same family as the lion, tiger, jaguar, leopard, puma, and cheetah. The scientific name of a cat is Felis catus. Trained domestic cats can help humans survive in the wild by hunting with them.
Domestic cats are also meat-eaters. They hunt small animals like rabbits, mice, and birds. Domestic cats can use their claws which can draw back and in, and their strong sharp teeth to catch it’s food. Domestic cats enjoy hunting their prey like other cats such as lions and tigers.
Social Behavior When domestic cats fight, they show threatening behavior by raising their fur and curving their backs; they also turn sideways, so they appear to be bigger in size.
Domestic Cats’ show interesting behavior. Did you know that cats are the only animal that purr? They make this sound in their throats. No one knows why cats purr, but in could be a sign of comfort. Cats also meow, hiss, yowl and growl. Domestic Cats produce sounds that other animals can’t duplicate.

A domestic short-haired cat is one kind of domestic cat. Domestic short-haired cats are of mixed ancestry, and they don’t belong to any other known cat breed. Domestic cats are also called moggies (in british english), and they are the most popular cats in the United States. In other relating terms, they include house cats and alley cats. The term tabby cat refers to a specialized coat pattern. Domestic short-haired cats are basically cats that have short fur.
The American Wirehair is an example of a short-haired cat. The American Wirehair is a type of domestic cat created in northern New York. In 2003,the breed was ranked the most rare of the Cat Fanciers’ Association breeds.
Types Of Domestic Cats Domestic Long-haired Cats Domestic long-haired cats are cats that have long hair. The Norwegian Forest Cat is an another example of a Long hair cat. The Norwegian Forest Cat is a breed of domestic cat specified to Northern Europe. This breed is suitable for very cold temperatures, it has a top coat of long, smooth, watershedding hairs, and a shaggy undercoat.
Domestic long-haired cats are somewhat similar to domestic short-haired cats. Those two are both mixed ancestry, and not belonging to any known breeds. A domestic long-haired cat should not be confused with the British Longhair, American Longhair, or other breeds with “longhair� because it is a recognized by different registries. Domestic long-haired cats are also called long-haired moggies in british english, and they are the second popular cat in the United States, after the domestic shorthaired cats. Domestic long-haired cats are cats that have semi-long fur.
Types of Domestic Cats Domestic Hairless Cats The Peterbald is one example of a hairless cat. Peterbalds have a natural and powerful build and a narrow long head with a straight profile. It has almond-shaped eyes, a wedgeshaped muzzle, and big set-apart ears. Peterbalds have a tail like a long whip, webbed feet and oval paws to let them grab things.
The Sphynx is one example of a domestic hairless cat. The Sphynx is a breed of a domestic cat known for it’s coat. The contemporary breed of the Sphynx is also known as the Canadian Sphynx, which is different to the Russian Sphynx breeds.
