Colosseum The Colosseum is considered a dangerous playground. It is the place where the ancient Romans watched bloody combats and battles between men and wild animals. Back in the roman days seeing men being killed was very entertaining. On special occasions they flooded the colosseum with water, and held naval battles. Many competitors died to entertain other people.
The Colosseum was really big. It could seat 45,000 people. But if they didn’t mind standing, the Colosseum could hold up to 70,000 people!

Food Fun Fact: The Romans liked to enjoy their food, often lying down on a couch while eating with their hands. They occasionally used a spoon, but they would never use a knife and fork.
Romans did not eat huge meals. Their main food was pottage. Pottage is thick stew made from wheat. Sometimes they added a little cooked meat with offal or sauce made out of wine. Common people ate wheat, olive oil, a little fish, and home grown vegetables. If the common Romans were lucky enough they would eat goat, cow, chickens, cheese, and a few eggs. Although it sounds like the Romans ate a lot of food, they preferred to eat lighter meals.
The diet of Romans was very different from the Chinese and was also very unique. Breakfast is eaten early, as soon as the sun rose. For breakfast they eat bread and fresh fruit. Lunch is eaten around noon; lunch is a small meal. It includes a little cooked meat, ham, salami, salad, cheese, hard boiled eggs, vegetables and bread. Dinner is long. It would begin about four in the afternoon, and it could continue into the night. The starter is salad or dishes of small fish. For the main course there is fish, cooked meat, and vegetable. Served next is dessert. There will be fresh fruit and cheese or sometimes small cakes for dessert. Different from Asians, the Romans eat dinner for a very long time.
