Assignment Brief Introduction: The aim of the unit is to enable learners to develop understanding of the benefits of volunteering to the individual and community. Scenario: As a student the benefits of gaining work experience and volunteering are immeasurable. Volunteering can help you meet new people, add value to your society and support your local Public Service by volunteering. It can also lead you to full term employment, provide valuable experience for your CV and is now a government requirement as a part of your studies. As student who will complete work experience/volunteering you have experienced these benefits first hand and are keen to spread the word about the positives of sacrificing some time. Learner Tasks: Your record task will be assessing the following criteria: Pass 5: Carry out voluntary work

Record Task: Log Book / Work Experience records Complete the provided logs immediately after volunteering/completing work experience; ensuring the relevant people/person has completed all areas and sections and submit to you tutor for checking. You have been tasked with the job of finding suitable placements for yourself and others in the group to get them excited about volunteering. You need create a booklet to present to the new potential volunteers. Your first step is to research different volunteering opportunities. You must; Identify at least 6 volunteering opportunities you could apply for. You could look at; Conversation projects, Shelters for homeless people, youth clubs, lunch clubs, collections to raise funds, Red Cross, St. Johns Ambulance, cadets, hospital visiting, visiting elderly, charity fundraising events, charity shops, animal sanctuaries, local sports or events or any other opportunities in the local area.

Using the information gained from your booklet: •

For Merit: Compare and contrast some (at least 3) of the different types of voluntary work available looking at the roles in detail and depth

For Distinction: Appraise the different volunteering opportunities you have identified.  What are the positives and negatives aspects of the 3 different types voluntary work you have identified  What are the personal benefits to undertaking each specific volunteer opportunity  Do you require paperwork i.e. DRB?  Is working with children or people with disabilities?  Is the location accessible?

Task 2 – Film

You have been given the opportunity by a local News Channel to produce a report on the new young volunteers in your community. You will work in three’s to research your stories, create a script and film the news report. Your report should:  For Pass: Explain why the new recruits are so important to the Public Service, benefits the volunteers gain and benefits to the community. You point should include - provide expertise; - provide time; - provide extra help; - Provide new ideas; - respond in an emergency, - Raise funds.  Benefits of volunteering to learners: - gain new life skills, - develop existing skills, - diversity awareness  For Merit: Investigate and analyse what would happen if we didn’t have volunteers, impacts on community and the people they support.  For Distinction: You want to be a hard hitting reporter so you need to finish your report with an evaluation – look at both positives and negatives.
