The National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) is one of the centers within the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Its goals are to support and transfer technology for the development of industry, agriculture and natural resources in Thailand. www.biotec.or.th
The Thailand Research Fund (TRF) was established in response to the 1992 Research Endowment Act. TRF’s objectives are to build up the capacity of professional researchers and strengthen the research community in order to support research for the national development of Thailand. www.trf.or.th
The Biodiversity Research and Training Program (BRT) was established in 1996 by BIOTEC and TRF. The BRT comprises of seven programs and provides funding for basic and applied research as well as training related to biodiversity in Thailand. www.biotec. or.th/brt

The study in the 3 - year (2006-2008) initiative project has shown that Khamon – South Sea Islands (Mu Koh Thale Tai) is rich in marine biodiversity and supports a variety of colorful fauna. A total of 719 species of marine life have been detected. …this study has revealed the unseen variety of marine organisms that live in harmony making the Khanom – South Sea Islands one of the most valuable natural treasures in southern Thailand.
