On 16th June, Krista wrote: “The worst of the pain is over; he's gone a day now without crying. Once they removed the epidural last Friday he had some really difficult days. The difference in his legs is already very noticeable, he can move his legs in ways he couldn't before, now that all the tightness is gone. However he is extremely weak now & it will take a month or more to get back to pre-‐surgery level of activity. He is having another surgery on the 21st to lengthen his Achilles tendon.” We will keep you updated when news comes through; please continue to keep Oliver & his family in your prayers. TWELFTH SUNDAY (year c) 18/19 JUNE 2016
Entrance Antiphon God is the strength of his people. In him we his chosen live in safety. Save us, Lord, who share in your life, and give us your blessing: be our shepherd for ever. Fr Mark Writes: The local GP who accurately and immediately diagnosed my condition was born in Eastern Europe. In the run-‐up to the EU Referendum, the issue of immigration looms large and there is a lot of negativity about it in the press and other media. This is my personal experience since having a triple bypass in St. George’s Hospital, Tooting, London 7 weeks ago. The surgeon was from Iran and at least 3 of her close team members were from the Indian subcontinent. My discharge papers were signed by an Italian registrar. One (outstanding) staff nurse on the ward was from Estonia. The meals were served by a Nigerian man and a Roumanian woman. In the care home in Canterbury where I spent five weeks recovering g from the operation there was a rota of 6 nurses. Two were English, one Irish and the others were Roumanian, Portuguese & Spanish. I experienced excellent care throughout and ask myself where the NHS and the care system would be if immigration were to be drastically restricted.
