PARISH/ HOLIDAY RETREAT to Minsteracres 13 – 20 August. An opportunity to come closer to the Lord through gentle spiritual input, companionship and trips out. Enjoy the peace, tranquillity and spirit of Minsteracres, situated on the beautiful border of Northumberland and Co. Durham, with afternoon trips to local places of interest and a full day out to Beamish; a fascinating open air museum of life in the North-­‐East in bygone days. There are places available on the coach for this year’s visit. For more information contact Deacon Barry (01227 368685). WORLD YOUTH DAY WITH POPE FRANCIS: Begins in Krakow this coming week. It is being held at the expansive Divine Mercy Centre there and a coach from Southwark is on its way this weekend. We will have one parishioner present: Agatha (known as Aga) Nowak, who is herself Polish and comes from the Krakow area. Aga is one of the readers at the 9.30/11.15 Mass. We wish her well for the big event and look forward to hearing first hand from her when she returns. THE HERNE BAY COMMUNITY AD MAGAZINE is being delivered to all the households in the town this month. There is a full page (p25) about the BOCCIA (pronounced “GOTCHA”) groups who meet weekly in the Retreat Hall and bring together 20 disabled people from the local area to play this form of indoor bowls which was made popular at the Paralympics in London four years ago. A local couple, Sheila and Derek Atherton are responsible for starting the Boccia Club and for raising awareness of it. Sheila herself is a wheelchair user. They have been with us for over three years and deserve our thanks and admiration for being so devoted to the people and the game. FUNERAL MASS – Michele Shilling Tuesday 26th July at 10.00a.m Platea: our Parish Magazine: In the coming months we are aiming to re-­‐ establish Platea, the parish’s magazine. We are looking for any artists or illustrators, writers and editors; poets and book reviewers; proof readers and those with experience in publishing; deliverers and those willing to obtain advertising. If you have any of these gifts, have prior experience or are simply keen to help, then please email: plateamag@gmail.com or speak to a members of the PPC. The Catholic Children’s Society, established over 150 years ago in the Diocese of Westminster is now working in our Diocese of Southwark. At the back of church there are leaflets explaining the excellent work the Society does in helping children and families in crisis. They provide financial support within 24 hours to families in immediate need; supply counsellors to work in schools with pupils who are experiencing difficulties; they have a Rainbows service, helping children who suffer bereavement. Please take a leaflet home and if you would like to receive the twice-­‐yearly newsletter, fill in a slip provided and return it to the parish office.
