NINETEENTH SUNDAY (year c) 30/31 JULY 2016

Entrance Antiphon God, come to my help. Lord, quickly give me assistance. You are the one who helps me and sets me free: Lord, do not be long in coming. FEAST DAYS Sunday 1st August: St. Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop and Doctor of the Church Thursday 4th August: St. John Vianney, Priest. Patron of parochial clergy Saturday 6th August: The Transfiguration of The Lord FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH – There will be no evening Mass for August – this will resume in September. COMINGS AND GOINGS etc. –Fr. Patrick returns from Ireland on Thursday this week; let’s hope he is feeling refreshed after the very busy time he had before he went away. Fr Mark will be leaving on Friday, the day after Fr Patrick returns (please don’t read anything into this!!), and heading for the north-‐east where his sister Ann and her husband Tony celebrate their Golden Wedding on August 6th. He will stay at Minsteracres, awaiting the arrival of the Parish Retreat Group on August 13 and then returning the same day as the group, 20th August. Miss Marie Eamer, the sister of the late Fr James CP, is celebrating her 100th birthday on August 3rd. We are offering Mass for her on the day and she will be having tea with friends in the retirement home in Malvern, Worcs, where she lives. Although she is not very mobile now, she has a very active mind and is always interested to hear the latest news from Herne Bay. On a rather different matter: we sent a cheque for £350 to Aid to the Church in Need for their essential work with Syrian refugees. In their current newsletter they describe how they are now the only agency consistently helping 60,000 refugees fleeing ISIS in the Kurdish safe areas of the north of Iraq. And let us not forget Fr Jacques Hamel, killed while saying Mass in Rouen. His Archbishop has said: “The only weapons the Catholic Church can take up are prayer and fraternity among peoples.”
