MOTHER TERESA -‐ Today Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be canonised, declared a saint, in Rome. She has become a symbol for the compassion of Christ and is known throughout the world. Having been a teacher in a school for well-‐to-‐do children in Calcutta she came upon a dying man in the street and realised that she just could not pass him by…..and this was the beginning of the new religious congregation she would found, the Sisters of Charity. Her Sisters have spread all over the world and they are to be found where the need is greatest, with the homeless, the addicts and the poorest of the poor. St Teresa of Calcutta is a wonderful example of Christ’s continuing presence in the world through his people who dare to be different and refuse to allow the world’s agenda to dictate their behaviour. In the words of today’s psalm response: “Oh Lord you have been our refuge from one generation to the next”, we can see that Mother Teresa made God her refuge and then provided refuge for countless thousands of people because of her faith and love. Our parishioner, Althea Walker, is attending the canonisation and promises prayer for all of us in St Peter’s Square.
