FEAST DAYS THIS WEEK-­‐ Two great feasts with strong Passionist associations this week: Wednesday 14th: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross and Thursday 15th: Our Lady of Sorrows. The Exaltation of the Cross is especially important this year for Fr John Kearns CP (Provincial) and Fr Jeroen Hoogland CP (Rector of Minsteracres) as they are both 25 years professed on that day. Our prayer and best wishes for them!

BOCCIA:-­‐ On Saturday 17th the statue of Amy Johnson will be unveiled on the sea front and there will be various events happening around it. One of them will be a demonstration of Boccia (think: got-­‐cha); it is national Boccia Day and the players who use our Hall on Fridays will be showing their skills near the new statue which Prince Michael of Kent will unveil. Why not call by the Boccia players and say hello!

COMPANIONS IN PRAYER – Our next meeting is on Wednesday 14th September at 7pm at Star of the Sea. All are welcome. MARY’S MEALS:-­‐ You will see that one of the boxes at the back of church has been re-­‐labelled MARY’s MEALS: they are making urgent appeal for Malawi where there is severe drought. Please contribute if you can!!

FLOWER GUILD-­‐ The flower guild will be decorating the church in celebration of the Harvest Festival. If you have Chinese lanterns, autumn fruits or veggies growing in your garden and would like to contribute to the arrangements please them in the box at the back of the church next weekend. Thank you for your support for the flower guild. HARVEST FESTIVAL SONGS OF PRAISE: 25 SEPTEMBER Please hand in your suggestions for hymns; we are continuing a recent tradition of meeting to sing God’s praises together. Make a note….and come along to sing.

SVP AWARENESS MONTH-­‐ September is SVP awareness month. We greatly appreciate how supportive of our efforts, the parish is, and each week in September, we will use the blackboard in the porch to display a reminder of our work. Our patron Cardinal Vincent Nichols observed that ‘the SVP provides an extended family on which we as brothers and sisters in Christ, can respond to the many and varied problems being faced within our communities’. WALSINGHAM PILGRIMAGE – Sun. 18th Sept. Pilgrimage of Reparation & prayer for the sanctity of life. Coach departs 0700hrs. outside church & 07.15hrs from St. Mary’s Whitstable. SOCIAL JUSTICE -­‐ People in Kent concerned about issues of social justice get together to discuss these matters from time to time at the Area Bishop’s house (“The Hermitage”, More Park, West Malling ME19 6HN). The next such gathering is scheduled to run from 2 till 4 pm on Sunday 18 September. All are welcome to join us then, or to contact Phil Kerton on 01474 873802 to get informed about future events.
