How are we to understand this doctrine? The Church’s understanding is that Our Lord’s redeeming grace, won by his Passion and Resurrection, was given to Mary in an anticipatory manner, so that she could be a worthy vessel to bring forth the Son of God made flesh. That she received such a blessing underlines the wonder and uniqueness of Mary’s role in our salvation; we believe that her bringing the Light into the world continues as, by her prayers, love and support, we too, in our own individual circumstances seek to bring the Light of Jesus Christ into our world today. At Christmas we pray: may Christ be born in us today also! ADVENT is a special time of preparation for the feast of Our Lord’s birth. We continue for the next two Sundays with our Advent Prayer at 4.00 pm (4 & 11 December); on December 18th we will have our annual Carol Service, an event not to be missed. Do try and make an effort to come for the Advent Prayer….an oasis of peace in the often frantic days as Christmas approaches.
