FR MARK WRITES: It is the Saturday morning after Easter and it feels as though Easter was ages ago, such has been the hugeness of the events connected with Fr Charles’s funeral. That the Mass on Thursday evening as his body was received into church and the funeral itself on Friday went so well is a tribute to so many people, too many to thank individually. It was very uplifting to see so many people in church at both celebrations – this has been a great comfort to Fr Charles’s sister and the rest of his family. The effect of the music provided by members of the Southwark Diocesan Youth Service and by our own choir, not to mention the contribution of children and staff from St Mary’s School will live long in the memory of all those who attended. We carried out Fr Charles’s wishes and I am sure all would agree they made for a stirring and moving celebration of faith and gratitude to God. A fitting tribute to a much loved and admired priest who will be greatly missed. But let us not forget EASTER!! The services were very well attended – the Walk of Witness was a great eventthe church was so beautifully decorated – the choir were in excellent voice – the altar servers, did so very well, and it was lovely to see the younger ones taking full part. And, as ever, those who worked behind the scenes ensured that everything went so smoothly. A most sincere thank you to all who were involved.
