St Thomas of Canterbury, Rainham, Kent ME8 7RH, Presenter Elizabeth Partridge - Phone: 01303670880 Email:earpartridge@gmail.com) For More Information and to BOOK - Contact: Mrs. Josie Boxall 51, Hickory Dell, Hempstead, Nr. Gillingham, Kent ME7 3SL. It is an intensive day, but it gives a good base for those who would like to help in this ministry. It is a ministry of listening, not counselling. Those who lose a loved one through death find the grieving process long and painful if they do not get enough support. Many will get support from family, friends and parish, but especially for those who now live alone it can be a very isolating experience. This training day will help provide the skills to those who wish to reach out to parishioners who are alone. It provides practice in listening skills, rules for running a group for the bereaved or reaching out to the individual and an explanation of the stages of grief that they may come into contact with. The donation for the course is £20 per person payable on the day. This course is not suitable for those who are recently bereaved for whom the retreat in October 2018 run by Aylesford Priory would be more appropriate. For details contact The Friars on 01622 717272. CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD: During the 9.30am Mass the children of the parish are invited to go through to the parish room and to listen to, and take part in, the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. The children make their sorry prayer, listen to the Gospel of the day in a child-friendly version, and then discuss their thoughts about Jesus’s teachings. The children are encouraged to say their own intercessory. And then, if time allows take part in an activity which is relevant to that Sunday’s teachings. They then return into Church at the Offertory to continue the Mass with their families. This is an important and vital part of helping our children understand, get to know and love Jesus and his teachings, on a level which they can understand. Currently we have only a very few volunteers from the parish who on a rota system, assist the children in learning about our faith. We are in desperate need of extra help! If this is something you would like to learn more about, and hopefully offer to be part of the Children’s Liturgy group, please contact the parish office on 01227 375095 or email Sue at sueourladyhb@yahoo.com You do not need to have a degree in theology or be a teacher, just bring the love of our faith and a willingness to help our children. You are welcome to come through and sit with those already part of the group to have ‘a look see’. We normally run through term time, however it is up for discussion as to whether we could continue through the holidays provided we have enough volunteers. CLERGY SUPPORT FUND CAMPAIGN: Thank you to all parishioners who supported the Diocesan-wide Campaign to raise support for our sick and retired clergy. Our parish has raised over £3,000 for this special cause. During the last few years, many parishioners expressed appreciation for particular priests who have had a positive influence in their lives, and have enquired about the possibility of leaving a gift in their Will to the Campaign. If this is a cause that resonates with you and you would like to find a way of thanking our retired diocesan priests for their service to our community, please consider picking up an introductory leaflet from the back of church today. Thank you.
