He had recently been telling his disciples that he would have to undergo his Passion and death but here he appears with what might be called a “Resurrection” brightness which tells us that his suffering and death is not a failure or a defeat, but a prelude to glory. We share his light as a consequence of our baptism and our vocation is to let his light shine. DEACON JAMES FOLEY R.I.P. With great sadness we announce the death of Deacon James who has been such a wonderful servant of this parish community for so many years. Although he had had to leave his beloved home in Bognor Drive and move into St Peter’s Home, and although his health had not been very good, his death , on August 1st,came suddenly and as quite a shock. However, he breathed his last in peace with his son James at his bedside. Life had not been the same for him since the death of his much-missed wife, Mary, five years ago but he never lost his most lively interest in the parish and in the Passionists of England and Wales who were very dear to him. May his good soul rest in peace. No funeral details available as yet. PARISH HOILDAY/RETREAT TO MINSTERACRES – (The long-standing tradition of our parish retreat-holiday owes everything to Deacon James who, ably assisted by Vic Caira, took the first group to Minsteracres in

MINISTERING TO THE BEREAVED ONE DAY COURSE - 23rd September 2017. St Thomas of Canterbury, Rainham, Kent ME8 7RH, Presenter Elizabeth Partridge - Phone: 01303 670880 Email:earpartridge@gmail.com) For More Information and to BOOK - Contact: Mrs. Josie Boxall 51, Hickory Dell, Hempstead, Nr. Gillingham, Kent ME7 3SL. It is an intensive day, but it gives a good base for those who would like to help in this ministry. It is a ministry of listening, not counselling. Those who lose a loved one through death find the grieving process long and painful if they do not get enough support. Many will get support from family, friends and parish, but especially for those who now live alone it can be a very isolating experience. This training day will help provide the skills to those who wish to reach out to parishioners who are alone. It provides practice in listening skills, rules for running a group for the bereaved or reaching out to the individual and an explanation of the stages of grief that they may come into contact with. The donation for the course is £20 per person payable on the day. This course is not suitable for those who are recently bereaved for whom the retreat in October 2018 run by Aylesford Priory would be more appropriate. For details contact The Friars on 01622 717272.
