St. Cuthbert, Bishop. Fri. 8th Sept. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 7: is the 70th anniversary of Bro Francis taking his vows as a Passionist laybrother. He insists that he does not want people to make a fuss, but we will have a special celebratory meal for him in the community. Bro Francis spent 40 years working in Sweden and has lived in semi-retirement in Herne Bay for the last ten years. Mass is being offered for him on 7th and we pray God’s blessing for him,a very dear brother. CHRISTIAN MEDITATION: Tues. at 2.15pm and Thurs. at 7.30pm in the Upper Room THE COMPANIONS IN PRAYER – Next meeting will be on Wednesday 13th Sept. PLATEA EDITION #3: The new edition of our parish magazine has now been printed and will be available for distribution next weekend. We would be grateful, as ever, for the help of the distributers.
PARISH RETREAT TO MINSTERACRES - next year's date: Following this year's wonderful week, the dates for next year are 11 - 18 August 2018. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2018: If you would like your child to be part of the First Holy Communion programme for 2018, please fill in an application form at the back of Church. New members are welcome to join us. RED MISSION BOXES Please return your red Mission Box to your promoter, or hand into the Parish office by the end of September. The old £1 coin ceases to be legal tender in October. In order to ensure any “old £1 coins collected in the red boxes are banked before the cut-off date please ensure your box is returned before the end of September. URGENT NEED FOR HELP FOR REFUGEES IN CALAIS/DUNKIRK: We have been made aware of the extremely difficult conditions that many hundreds of people, including unaccompanied minors, are trying to cope with. There is strong Catholic involvement with them from French Catholic Social Services and excellent ecumenical collaboration from this side of the Channel. All the items we are able to give will be sent via the Salvation Army in Canterbury. If you would like to donate money, cheques can be made out to Christians Together Canterbury and sent to the Salvation Army, Canterbury. The greatest need is for men’s clothing: Boxer shorts/hipsters, small and medium size; Jogging bottoms and jeans size 26-32 waist. Fleeces, warm sweaters, T-shirts: small/medium sizes. Socks and toiletries Trainers, sturdy shoes sizes 38-45 but especially 42/43 Sleeping Bags and Blankets. Any First Aid items also very much needed. There will be boxes at the back of church next weekend. Thank you for your help. PUGIN WEEK: 7th - 14th September - A festival to celebrate the great Catholic revivalist Augustus Pugin. You are invited to St. Augustine's, Ramsgate, to events through the week. Saturday 9th September: DAY OF RENEWAL at AYLESFORD. The day will be led by members of Cor at Lumen Christi Catholic community, a most impressive new lay community, well known to Fr Mark, who have great experience in the ministry of healing. It promises to be a great day. It starts with the Rosary at 9.30 and finishes with Holy Mass which will conclude at 5.00pm. Bring a packed lunch. Lifts will be available, please see Fr Mark. Full details on poster in the church porch. BARN DANCE - To commemorate their 70th anniversary, Herne Bay Little Theatre are having a Barn Dance in the Retreat Hall on Sat. 9th Sept.at 7pm. There is a live band with a caller and will include a buffet. Tickets are £10 and you can either ring 366004 or contact Tony Jose in church or on 375838. It will be a fun evening.
