The Exaltation of The Holy Cross; Friday 15th: Our Lady of Sorrows, both very important feasts for the Passionist Congregation as well as for the universal Church. Fr Mark and FR Patrick are away this coming week for a Passionist Conference at Minsteracres on the theme of “Welcoming the Stranger.” They leave on Sunday afternoon and return on Friday. CHRISTIAN MEDITATION: Tues. at 2.15pm and Thurs. at 7.30pm in the Upper Room THE COMPANIONS IN PRAYER – Sacred Heart companions in prayer - Our next meeting is at 7 pm on Wednesday 13 September at the convent chapel 25 Western Esplanade. Please bring your companions prayer book. New members are very welcome to join us PARISH RETREAT TO MINSTERACRES - next year's date: Following this year's wonderful week, the dates for next year are 11 - 18 August 2018. LUNCH CLUB UPDATE - Just to confirm there is no lunch in September. However, on Weds 13th Sept. we will be going on a coach trip to Minster Abbey in Ramsgate. Coaches will be leaving at 11am from the church, returning about 2pm. Any concerns please call Samantha on 07711270646. The cafe & shop will be open. Food and drink can be bought from the lovely cafe on site. Drink from £1.50, cake from £2, sandwiches from £4. VACANCY: Deputy Headteacher - St Thomas’ Catholic Primary School in Canterbury is looking to appoint a new Deputy Headteacher from January 2018. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2018: If you would like your child to be part of the First Holy Communion programme for 2018, please fill in an application form at the back of Church. Children should be in school year 4 and above. Please return form to Fr. Mark or Parish Office. Please return forms by 17 September. THE SVP – September – SVP Awareness Month. September is the month when we highlight the various aspects of the work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul – homelessness, grief, loneliness & hunger. Please look out for the posters on the noticeboard at the back of the church. There will be an appeal for the SVP on 24th September, and the 2nd collection that weekend will help with their work in our parish. If you want more information about the SVP please call the helpline 07869 – 509804 or speak to one of our members. The SVP will undertake an appeal for foodbank after all Masses this weekend. RED MISSION BOXES Please return your red Mission Box to your promoter, or hand into the Parish office by the end of September. The old £1 coin ceases to be legal tender in October. In order to ensure any “old £1 coins collected in the red boxes are banked before the cut-off date please ensure your box is returned before the end of September. Thank you for your continued support of the Missions. URGENT NEED FOR HELP FOR REFUGEES IN CALAIS/DUNKIRK: We have been made aware of the extremely difficult conditions that many hundreds of people, including unaccompanied minors, are trying to cope with. There is strong Catholic involvement with them from French Catholic Social Services and excellent ecumenical collaboration from this side of the Channel. All the items we are able to give will be sent via the Salvation Army in Canterbury. If you would like to donate money, cheques can be made out to Christians Together Canterbury and sent to the Salvation Army, Canterbury. The greatest need is for men’s clothing: Boxer shorts/hipsters, small and medium size; Jogging bottoms and jeans size 26-32 waist. Fleeces, warm sweaters, T-shirts: small/medium sizes. Socks and toiletries Trainers, sturdy shoes sizes 38-45 but especially 42/43 Sleeping Bags and Blankets. Any First Aid items also very much needed. There are boxes at the back of church this weekend. Sign-up sheet at back of Church. FAVERSHAM CONVERSATIONS: Has Science Disproved Religion? CHRISTMAS FAYRE SAT. 2ND DEC. I trust you all had a restful summer? But now we look forward to Christmas! Sorry to bring it so near. Our Christmas Fayre will be on the 2nd Dec, and we need help to make it a success! You can help by collecting goods that we can sell, raffle goods, bottles, tombola, toys. PLEASE NO BRIC A BRAC. A date will be arranged for those willing to help serve or do the cooking for us. Thank you. Adoration every weekday: 8.30-9.30a.m. Also Saturday morning, 10.00 to 11.00 with Rosary at 10.45., said for the Parish each week. There is a further opportunity each week: at Convent Chapel, 25 Western Esplanade from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m. on Fridays. Sacrament of Reconciliation: Saturday 10am-11am and 4.30pm-5.30pm.
