FEAST DAYS THIS WEEK: Monday 22nd January – St. Vincent; Thursday 25th January – Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle. WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY: We are in the middle of this annual week of special prayer which, as always, concludes with the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul. This feast is very significant: St Paul, in his Letters, refers to the unlikeliness of his conversion, having originally been a persecutor of the Church. The message is clear: if God can change the heart of such a person as Paul, there is nothing His grace cannot do and therefore our prayer for Christian Unity must never be given up. It seems a long journey, but a very great deal has been achieved in the last fifty years: let us pray for God’s grace as the journey goes on.
NEXT SUNDAY: SPECIAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR RACIAL JUSTICE. Retiring Collection for the Catholic Association for Racial Justice. THE 10.00 a.m. MASS on Thursday will be a memorial Mass for Joan Webb (formerly Searle) who was for many years a very active member of the parish and of the choir. Her daughter Cindy welcomes all of Joan’s friends to this Mass. “LET’S TALK” is a place where parishioners and friends can discuss faith matters and issues of the day in a Catholic context. Among last year’s topics were “the afterlife”, Islam, “science and religion”. The Parish Pastoral Council is planning this year’s series. If you have any ideas you would like to propose or other suggestions, please email ourladyhernebay@gmail.com or phone the parish on 375095 by this Mon. 22 January. Thank you.
