LENT: It was encouraging to see a very good number of people at Mass on Ash Wednesday. Please note that this Sunday there will be Stations of the Cross and Evening Prayer and Benediction at 4.00pm. On Friday 23rd there will be an extra Mass, in the evening at 7.00pm followed by Stations of the Cross. We hope many will take advantage in this way of the first of the Three Pillars of Lent: Prayer. The second and third Pillars of Lent are Fasting and Almsgiving and the coming week will provide opportunities for both: this Sunday you will hear the appeal for the CAFOD Lenten Family Fast Day (Friday 23rd). The time‐honoured tradition of the Church is what we save by fasting we share with the poor. The SVP 6x£1 coin cards will also be available this weekend. FEAST DAY: Thursday 22nd is the Feast of the Chair of St Peter the Apostle, celebrating the ministry of Peter, the first of the Apostles. THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL……( please see the updated photo‐board in the porch area of the church)…..have been looking at some longer‐term events to help build up parish life in all its aspects. A major event will be a Bible Weekend led by the very highly‐regarded Catholic Bible School. This will be the midsummer weekend in June. At the level of the Deanery, there will be some meetings coming up in the Spring to help prepare for the Eucharistic Congress in September. (Please see the paragraph below.) There is also a Diocesan initiative in the offing: the Apostolate of Eucharistic Adoration. We expect more news of this in the coming two months or so. We are planning a Parish Meeting in May along the lines of an “annual general meeting” and, on a lighter note, we are hoping that the Russian Male Vocal Quartet, the Konevets, will be able to find room for us in their forthcoming tour in the early summer. Many of you will remember the outstanding the concerts they have given here in the past. We will keep you informed as all of these events unfold. DEANERY PREPARATION FOR THE EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS (Liverpool 7‐9 September): Our parish will be hosting the first of three deanery gatherings to reflect on the Eucharist and its vital importance in our lives.
