SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT (YEAR B) 24th– 25th February 2018

Entrance Antiphon: Remember your mercies, Lord, your tenderness from ages past. Do not let our enemies triumph over us; O God, deliver Israel from all her distress. CHILDRENS LITURGY- This group is open to children aged between 4-9 years (9.30am Mass) term time. This Sunday, 25th February the 9.30 Mass is the Family Mass. After Mass all the children of the Parish are invited into the Retreat Hall for arts & crafts; along with soft drinks and biscuits/ Tea & Coffee for the adults. All welcome – come along and meet other families. A great way for the children to get to know one another. TRAIDCRAFT this weekend after 6pm and 9.30 Masses. It's Fairtrade Fortnight from Monday. Watch out for Fairtrade goodies. Come and sample CoOp Fairtrade from 9 to 11.30 next Saturday in the High St. CoOp. Tea & Coffee-Soft drinks & Biscuits are served after the 9.30am Mass in the hall, all welcome 9.30 MASS Hymns: 970, 603, 720, 747, 883; Mass Setting: Belmont: 1001 - 1011.

FEAST DAY: Tuesday 27th is the feast of the young Passionist saint, Gabriel of Our Lady of sorrows who died before he could be ordained and whose shrine in Italy attracts young people by their thousands annually. Thursday 1st is the feast of St David, Patron of Wales. FUNERAL THIS WEEK: Albert Benjamin Thurs 1st March at 11.30am 24 HOURS OF PRAYER: Pope Francis has asked for this on 9/10 March. We shall start the 24 hours on Friday 9th at 6.00 pm with Mass and Stations of the Cross and conclude in time for the 6.00pm Mass on Saturday 10th. Please see the plan in the church porch and place a tick with in the hourly slot(s) you can cover. If you wish, you may add your initials after the tick. This is a very special time of prayer and sacrifice in which we will join


with countless thousands of Catholics throughout the world to pray for the Church and for the world with all its many serious needs. FIRST FRIDAY: MARCH 2nd: There will be evening Mass at 7.00 followed by Prayers for Healing. All welcome. EQUAL SHARES: February draw winners: 1st Prize Mary Stenson, 2nd Prize Mary McCarthy. INVITATION TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE: If you are at secondary school come to the Retreat hall this Sunday 25 Feb. and hear from the Whitstable Youth SVP group about what they do & the fun they have doing it. If you care about our planet, come along & we can share some ideas. There will be refreshments too. Start at 6.00pm DEANERY PREPARATION FOR THE EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS (Liverpool 7-9 September): Our parish will be hosting the first of three deanery gatherings to reflect on the Eucharist and its vital importance in our lives. It will take place on Saturday 10 March from 11.00 to 2.00. Fr Mark will be giving the talk at this first session. Theme: The Eucharist and Community. This is open to everyone and it will involve a talk on the Mass, with a particular focus on the first section of the Mass leading up to the Readings. The talk will be for 40 minutes followed by refreshments and then a period of discussion. There will then be a period of prayer before lunch – there will of course be the opportunity for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament as this meeting coincides with the 24 Hours of Prayer you are asked to bring a packed lunch, hot drinks will be provided.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY OF PRAYER – will take place on Friday 2nd March. The Herne Bay Service will be held at 2.00pm at St. Bartholomew’s Church, King Edward Av. An estimated 3 million people will take part around the world. The service has been written by the women of Suriname. Everyone is welcome! HASLAND DANCE STUDIO - WINE & WISDOM on Sat. 3rd March. Monies raised for their School Fund, & in support of Kent Search & Rescue &The Make-A-Wish Foundation charities. We sincerely hope that many of you will be able to get tables together to join us for this fun evening. Venue - Retreat Hall - 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Cost £8 per person on tables of 8, Food - Ploughman’s-style food will be provided for each table. SOCIAL JUSTICE: From time to time people meet to discuss progress upon issues such as reducing poverty, persecution, conflict, discrimination and environmental degradation - all dear to the heart of the Pope. The next such meeting will be from 2.00 to 4.00 pm on Sunday June 11th at the Area Bishop's house ("The Hermitage", More Park, West Malling ME19 6HN - near the Catholic Church and school).
