Victory Day in Russia “Please, someone, make time slow down!”
FROM THE EDITOR Hello everyone “Miss Lingva” as a kind of scientific reporting on language and linguistics, increasing students’ motivation for learning foreign languages and my first international project experience. Well, what is a linguistic magazine? It is a magazine with articles on linguistics- and language-based theory, news, application, findings, and field reports. It is committed to diversity in its scope of reporting, covering both the scientific and applied sides of linguistics, while maintaining a neutral stance towards debates occurring within the field. I love learning languages and try to use all the facilities for this. Once I saw an online linguistic magazine on the internet. It was Babel. Babel is written and compiled by world-class linguists. . And I liked the idea to create me own magazine. And I decided to bring this project to my classmates and foreign students. Of course, the publication of a school magazine is a very difficult task. And here is what I and my team did. Special Thanks to my colleagues! You are the best!

Victory Day in Russia This Victory Day is scented with gunpowder, this is a holiday with grey hair on the temples. This is happiness with tears in your eyes Victory Day Victory Day Victory Day For the Soviet Union, the war started on the 22nd of June 1941. A day before, on the 21st of June, in all schools of the country there was a party - the last school ball. Girls and boys had just finished school. They were dancing, dreaming of the future and did not know that the following day, they would go to war and never come home again. For the Soviet Union the war lasted for 4 years. It was a very hard time for everyone. In many cities and villages there was starvation. Millions of Soviet soldiers died in this war. But they won and became heroes to every Russian person. Russian people celebrate Victory Day on May 9. Victory Day is a national holiday in Russia. On this day, TV networks broadcast a military parade at Moscow’s Red Square, World War II-inspired films. Younger generations honor veterans, A lot of people attend a local military parade and watch the fireworks at night on Victory Day. The biggest parade is in Moscow’s Red Square, showcasing Russia’s military forces. Most veterans wear their medals as they head to the parade or an event organized by a local veteran organization.

Another tradition is to give flowers, usually red carnations, to veterans in the street and to lay wreaths at the war memorial sites. Neighborhood schools may host a program prepared by the students, featuring wartime songs and poetry. At home, families gather around a festive table to honor surviving witnesses of World War II and remember those who passed away. They may also watch a favorite Soviet film based on the events of World War II, which is also known as the Great Patriotic War. These films are repeated each year but the audience seems to never grow tired of them. Common symbols of Victory Day in Russia are: • St. George ribbon – people wear this blackand-yellow ribbon on their clothes or tie it to car antennas as a sign of respect and remembrance. • Red carnations – blood red is the color of the Soviet flag under which the veterans had fought. Laying an even number of red carnations at war memorial sites signifies mourning and remembrance. • Red Star medal – a military distinction for bravery.
Dark Night
Composer: Nikita Bogoslovsky Lyrics: Vladimir Agatov Dark night, only bullets whistle on steppe, Only the wind hoots in wires, stars flicker dimly. In dark night, I know, you, my love, do not sleep, And at a cot secretly you wipe tear. Oh how I love depth of your tender eyes, Oh how I wish to nestle on them now by my lips! Dark night divides, my love, us, And the disturbing, black steppe has lain between us. I trust in you, my dear, This belief stored me from a bullet … at dark night I’m joyful, I am confident in a deadly fight, I know you will meet me with love, whatever happens. The death doesn’t scary to me, we met it a lot in the steppe. So it is flying above me again now. You wait for me and at a cot do not sleep, And that’s why I know: everything will be ok with me!

We bow our thanks the simple soldier
The greatest national holiday in our country is Victory Day. On the 9th of May, 1945, the Soviet Army and its allies completely defeated the German fascists and the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War ended. Victory day. I personally have quite contradictory feelings about this event. On the one hand, I feel patriotic and proud of my Motherland, which managed to protect its independence. On the other hand, though, I fell sorry for soldiers and civils, who sacrificed their lives in order to protect the not only the country, but its new
generations. 70 years have passed since the day. Thanks his and other simple soldiers daily feat of arms fascism was defeated! We bow our thanks the simple soldier, but the real hero! I`m proud of my great-grandfather. He fought so that I was able to realize my dream into reality. My great-grandfather, Semchenko Alexey Zakharovich was a veteran of World War II. At that time he was only 12 years old. He lived in a village occupied by the Nazis. His father’s relationship with the guerrillas shot by the Germans, 2015, May / missLINGVA

Alexey Zakharovich’s family was only his mother and younger brothers. My great-grandfather was connected as a partisan, and helped his mother to hide wounded soldiers in the attic. Though the Nazis did not suspect anything and had not found the Russian soldiers, Alexey Zakharovich distracted the Germans and averted them away from his home - juggle, walk on his hands, did everything so that the Nazis did not pay attention to his house. After the liberation of the village from the Nazis, Alexey Zakharovich was sent to the Suvorov military school in 1943. And in 1945 he took part in the victory parade in Suvorov order, for which he was awarded a medal. He was only a boy, and his courage and bravery were worthy of respect. I am very grateful to my great-grandfather, because thanks to him and other veterans of the Great Patriotic War, we can live, enjoy, love, and dream. My great-grandfather dreamed that the war would end quickly and that all people would live in peace again while the sun shone brightly over their heads, and that everything would be fine. Every person has the most cherished dream. Sometimes its implementation should devote a lifetime or spend a few fleeting moments. My dream - is to teach children painting. To make my dream come true, I need to put in a lot of effort, time and perseverance. Now I’m at art school in the last year of study. My teacher taught me a lot of 8

styles and techniques of painting that I get better and better at every day. I also learned a lot about the history of art, and of the world’s greatest painters, sculptors and architects. I really like to study there, because I learn a lot of new and interesting things, looking carefully at and correct mistakes, which means that I’m getting closer and closer to my dream. A year later, I’ll go to college to be an art teacher of painting. The time of admission is the most exciting, but I truly believe that I will succeed. In the future, I will give my knowledge of the arts to children, my students. I can help them to learn the magical world of creativity, and inspire them with a love for art. Alina Deliss is the poetess and singer will tell you how to be beautiful! Alina Deliss is an exquisite woman with an unusually strong inner core, great and strong-willed. Her fascination envelops with French charm and polished manner of British princess. She has been dancing since 11. It gave her an aristocratic proud bearing and the ability to present herself in a literal way. And today, this amazing woman will give you some tips how to be beautiful. «I’m not going to tell you about complex and expensive cosmetic procedures, you will be told about this in any beauty salon. I’ll talk about few simple rules that must be followed for every woman to be beautiful every time. First of all, you need to sleep at least 8 hours a day. This is a golden rule which will help you to avoid pouches under the eyes and tired appearance. Moreover the most effective doss when you go to bed not later than midnight. Lack of sleep may be a cause of early wrinkles, which will become only deeper, you will feel yourself overwhelmed, also just woke up. The following rule is not to eat anything 4 hours before bedtime. The rule «do not eat after 6» is known to everyone, but you need to keep in mind it was spread when people went asleep at 10 pm, but some people are trying to observe this rule being the night «owls». Women often suffer a hunger after six pm, and then «break away» late at night. The last meal 4 hours before bedtime will provide you with an easy and healthy doss and a positive impact on your figure. Life is a motion. If you do not like sports, do not force yourself with going to abhorrent gym. Find the alternative - dancing, swimming-pool, aerobics or
walking. This will help you to be healthier and will also keep your figure in a good shape. The following advice - let’s allow your skin to have a rest from cosmetics. Every day we go to work and do makeup, what else - many women refuse to go to the store without makeup. It’s wrong position - the skin should «breathe». So if you have a day planned to go out «in the light», stay natural, and better treat yourself with a facial mask beforehand. A very important point - get rid of pernicious habits! Smoking spoils the whole image of women - both inside and outside. The skin becomes grayish, hair and nails deteriorate, the smell of tobacco can «kill» the flavor of even the most resistant perfume, not to mention the diseases that result from nicotine. Alcohol is not the best way to relax and unwind. Drinking a herbal tea will be better. The banal advice at first sight - take care of you. All women know that it should be accomplished, but not everyone knows how to do it. Remember - you need to buy cosmetics only in pharmacies and specialty stores! Carefully inspect the beautycraft, for what age and skin type it suits when buying. If you would like to have a new and unknown cosmetic for yourself, check it for allergies on an inconspicuous area of the skin. This will help you to avoid a lot of problems. And finally, the most important advice - be positive and cheerful! Sullen and boring woman will never attract people. In summary of my words -it’s important to develop yourself - to read books, watch movies, have some hobbies. Such self-development not only turns you into an interesting interlocutor, but also makes your life brighter!

OPINION AND COMMENTS
CAN WOMEN
Over 76 years ago Sigmund Freud gave us a stereotype “the great question that has never been answered ... is “What does a woman want?” For me it is a delusion that women do not know what they want, because I always know what I want. I had decided to test it, so I did an interview among my female friends asking them only one simple question “What do you want?” and I asked them to give me 100 answers. It was not an easy task, I only managed 74 of mine. They were allowed to dream about everything from “to go to the Moon” to “being a ballerina in the Bolshoi Theatre”, but it was such a pity that nobody wanted to be an astronaut or a ballerina, not even me. Here are some statistics which I have got. In the first place 100% of my respondents want to have their own big, nice, comfortable, bright and sunny house. “... they are ordinary people... only the housing shortage has had a bad effect on them.” (The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov). The second place, with 75%, is shared among desires: to be healthy, to have more children (twins would be even better), to learn English and to climb mountains. In the third place, with over 60%, there are wishes: health, happiness and success for children, to have a car, a beautiful very expensive diamond ring, money, a new wardrobe with clothing from fashion designers and, of course, girls being girls, they want to be slim. If all my girlfriends’ dreams could come true in a moment, then my average friend would be a forever young and beautiful woman with good health and teeth, with silky thick hair, who eats without getting fat, has her own big house, a red BMW X5, a cat or a pedigree dog, a diamond ring and a mink fur coat. She would be able to drive, speak English fluently, travel a lot, pick up ceps in the forest every autumn, spend holidays climbing to the mountain top or relaxing on the beach. This woman would have swam with dolphins, have already visited St Petersburg, England and Goa as well as the motherland with her mother and children. It would be easy for her to ride an elephant, to fly in a hot-air balloon, to do a parachute jump, to dance salsa professionally, to sail her own yacht and to do the splits. She would be married with at least two children. Her beloved husband would be the ideal man of her dreams who loves only her. He would be a successful millionaire in demand, who showers her with flowers and presents every day. Her children, who 14 missLINGVA / May, 2015
would certainly love her, would know she is a good mother, they would be happy and have true friends. Her parents would be in good health and have a long life. This lady would have her own prosperous business, but it does not matter, because she would be the winner of a lottery jackpot, ensuring that she would be financially secure. She would gather her friends and relatives for a barbecue as often as she wants, have a full wardrobe of branded clothing, shoes, handbags and other necessary girly stuff. And the last one, unfortunately, because of the world situation at present, she would want to live in a country with a stable economy and politics where there is no war. These are the top 5 of wishes that impressed me, I hope they will not leave you indifferent. 1. “I want to adopt a raccoon or a Pygmy slow loris, or both. I do like raccoons! Let’s google pictures of the loris, it is a fluffy beauty!” 2. “I want a «blood with low haemoglobin» coloured dress.” Yes, my friends have a great sense of humour. If you wonder, it is a simple coral colour. Also the same person wants: to dance kizomba professionally, own a new ice axe BD, to pass exams of the course “The skipper of the day voyage”, to meet Kirkorov, to climb up to Lenin Peak (more than 7 000 meters, by the way) and of course a pair of new high heel red shoes. 3. “I want to lay flowers on the mass grave where my grandfather lies. He died in December 1941during the fights for Kalinin, while crossing the river Shosha with wounded people.” The WW II was a horrible tragedy for people from many countries in Europe and the USSR, I do not know a family which was not burnt by the war. 4.“I want my children to create the elixir of immortality as they fantasise.” May be this is the first step to them being famous talented surgeons and doctors that their mother dreams about. 5. Dreams that return to childhood, my nostalgia awakened... “Chocolate ice-cream on a stick and sweets as it was in my childhood, to eat potatoes baked over a campfire, to sleep in the hayloft, to eat blueberries by handful, to fall in love when I was 18.” Recently I had a conversation with a woman about her desires. She was that kind of person who likes to
HAVE IT ALL? call herself “the previous generation” and tell stories from her youth when trees were big and ice-cream cost 5 kopeks. “I have,” she said, “only two wishes. The first, that my family and I will not feel suffering. The second, my family and I would never be in need. You are so young, but believe me, these two are the most important things and everything else is such nonsense that I do not want to think about it.” I do not agree with her at all, these are not only two points to wish for. All of us exist to have pleasure in our lives, but some things do not happen without pain and suffering. No pain, no gain. I hope, she does not suppose, that her daughter will never have a child, because at the moment of childbirth women feel pain which could be compared with the pain of broken bones. Or her grandchildren will not ride a bicycle, because they might scratch their knees. Or her children will never fall in love, because their lover might break their hearts. Not to be in need, is it to have enough money for living? That is all? What about learning English, Chinese and may be Kazakh languages, to be a multilingual and be able to communicate freely when travelling in different countries? What about going to a Brazilian Carnival or to the World Football Cup, or visit the Oscar Awards, the Pyramids or Neuschwanstein Castle? What about trying something extremely new? To ballroom dance, to ski, to paint, to dive, to embroider, to sail a yacht, to play the guitar, to write a book, to ice-skate, to sew your outfits, to take photo classes. When even our simple hopes come true that makes our life better, improves our mood and we feel happier. They are not measured by money, they are priceless. If our expectation happen, they bring positive emotions and become good memories. Our life is in snapshots: meeting someone very important for you suddenly on the street, catching a charming man looking at you, holding the hand of your ideal man, having a perfect make-up, drinking hot chocolate, cooking an apple pie with your children for the family dinner, reading a favourite book, doing nothing all day, wearing a dress that makes you feel pretty, making snow angels, watching a favourite film again, listening to the rain hitting the roof, seeing the sunset, feeling safe with him, kisses, smiles, hugs, children’s first steps, summer strawberries, the first snowfall. Women are very emotional and sensitive, we live
by feelings, so women’s wishes always depend on the mood. When choosing a dress in our wardrobe, words “There is nothing to wear” mean “I have no clothing for who I want to be today.” The another reason, why men do not understand our wishes, is that men cannot interpret women’s hints but, on the other hand, women sometimes do not openly express their desires. Ladies, if your hints and flirting eyes do not work and you do not know how to say what you want for an important occasion, but really want to help your partner guess it, make your wishlist and place it on the fridge’s door! It makes your life easier! For men I also have a lifehack of how to surprise your beloved woman with a special gift – check her browsing history, we women never clean it, or look at the fridge. P.S. My dear girls, thank you for trusting me and sharing your wishes. I really did enjoy writing the article. I hope your dreams will come true! By Natalia Lapteva

ALL DAYS, ALL NIGHTS... IN ISRAEL by Lilit Bagdasarova
When I was going to visit Israel, I couldn’t even imagine what kind of place it is. When I was going to visit Israel, I couldn’t even imagine what kind of place it is. Everyone knows that it’s a Holy Land for each religion as well as a great resort. It goes without saying that Jerusalem, the Dead sea, Jordan and Palestine are worth visiting, but what else is Israel? First of all I’d like to say that my trip was very spontaneous. I just bought the ticket and went somewhere to think over nowadays, having no friends and great routes over the country. All my dreams were connected with a sea, a beach, some places in Jerusalem and getting a good night’s sleep. It is a simple plan of a really tired person, isn’t it?) No parties, no adventures, no hangouts that’s what I really wanted. But who could think that ALL
16
missLINGVA / May, 2015
would be quite the contrary.... Adventures started in the airport. Jewish customs didn’t allow me to leave it for no understandable reasons, just because of the fact that I’m a girl, unmarried girl. After some hours I finally saw Tel Aviv! The city which is crazy much more than holy... Some words about its disadvantages. The main disadvantages of Tel Aviv are: -Prices. With today’s currency only rather rich people can afford going there. -A very dangerous sun! My first (WINDY) day on the beach ended with burning, all the time left I used jackets and long-sleeve clothes... So as you see I wasn’t allowed to go to the beach
for 4-5 days. But I decided to spend them in a more interesting way - travelling over the country. Israel is a small place of big contrasts. My second day was devoted to the Heavenly city Jerusalem. It can’t but impress one, and my advice to every traveler is to take an excursion! Old Jerusalem is a huge place, especially if you have one day for it, you must buy it! 4-hours tour costs not too much, so don’t lose the opportunity to enjoy it all, with Western Wall, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Armenian, Jewish, Muslim areas... I was lucky to be there during Passover, but my audio guide cost more than real excursion and was much less effective. The third day was spent in the most beautiful city of the whole Israel - Haifa, populated mostly with Russian-speaking people. A local zoo, gardens, upper city, embankment can’t be described by words, it’s like paradise. Russian paradise=) Now some words about old city Jaffo, situated inside TA. In contrast to 100-years old Tel Aviv (TA) the place is really ancient and considered to be mostly Arabic area. So the city is divided between Jewish (TA) and Arabic (Jaffo) people.
Though many painters, musicians of all nationalities live in Old Jaffo as well - it’s a really beautiful place. My Passover week was full of festivals and advertisements organized by different universities’ students with free performances, drinks and food! Don’t forget about Shabat - it lasts from Friday to Saturday, this time one can hardly find a place to buy even bread.... The city is nealy dead for two days. Nevertheless Tel Aviv is a party place! A party is the sense of its existence. A party is everything in TA. The capital of gay culture, where cigarettes are replaced by light drugs and people go out more than work. You can be yourself and do whatever you want, at this safe but crazy place. With people from the whole world. Of course, I had to forgot about the Dead sea because of my skin, but managed to go to Tel Aviv beach for four last days, spending there half an hour. So many emotions, so many memories, so many friends all over the world, so many crazy actions... Thank you Israel for this unbelievable time! P.S. Girls in the army are so attractive=)

Do you remember the last day of school? I can remember this day, 33 years ago, very clearly – all the students gathered in the school hall, the shirt signing, the tears. It was very sad and unforgettable. The amount of emotions that you feel on graduation day is unbelievable, and I have yet to experience anything else like it. I can remember feeling anxious to celebrate the big day with my friends and family, while at the same time I was panicking thinking about having to walk across the stage in front of that many people. Then, the more I thought about the reality of graduation day, I started to get curious, but nervous, about being able to start a new chapter in my life once graduation day had passed. Nowadays many girls wear dresses on the last day; wear one that’s your style and not fancy, just light and summery. Most importantly wear a big smile! Enjoy! Every kid looks forward to the last day of school and it makes it extra exciting, as a parent, to build up the anticipation of school ending and the summer beginning. What can we do on the last day of school? We can - Write a Letter to Next Year’s Students. The pupils can offer tips for success in your classroom, favorite memories, inside jokes, anything that a new student in your room might need or want to know. -Organize Learning Game Centers Pool together all of the educational games in your classroom. Split the class into small groups and designate centers in the room for each game.
Set the timer and give each group a certain amount of time with each game. Give the signal and then the groups rotate around the room so everyone gets a chance to play all of the games. -Write Thank You Notes This may be a good project to start a few days before the last day of school, so that you can really do it right. Silly Awards -Come up with categories such as «Most talkative,» or «Silliest,» and then have kids nominate classmates and vote on who best fits each category. -Questions and Answers Similarly, have the younger students ask your students about what they have to look forward to next year. - Have a Treasure Hunt Hide items around the classroom, and write clues that the children have to decipher in order to find the items. Have the children work in teams to find the treasures. - go out for ice cream - have an outdoor movie - the evening after the last day of school go out to a special supper Graduation day holds a lot of importance for a student as it marks a beginning of a new phase in life. This is a special time as it also means that he is about to realize his dreams and ambitions. A thoughtful gift to commemorate this occasion will make them feel very special. 2015, May / missLINGVA

SCHOOL MATTERS
Native Speaker Teachers:
Help or Hindrance.
Today in the era of globalization and progress we can get almost anything we want almost in every sphere of our life including education. New gadgets, tricks and technologies make the process of education easier and fill it with variety and fun. Learning a foreign language has also become more available and exciting as modern learners have an access to a higher amount of resources. What’s more, they can practice the language they learn with native speakers without even getting up from the chair. For most schools it has become a matter of prestige to have native speakers working as their teachers for no student will ever doubt the efficiency of getting first-hand knowledge from a person teaching their mother tongue. People are ready to pay extra money to get what they think will make them master a foreign language way faster. However, are non-native teachers really so unprofessional and are native speakers as good as they look

on paper? When we go to a doctor we expect to be examined and treated by a person with proper education and skills. How can learning a foreign language with a professional teacher be different? The golden rule says: we can all speak our mother tongue but not all of us can teach it. Leave it to professionals. Among the main criteria that might influence one’s choice of a teacher such factors as price, motivation and quality might be decisive. Some people tend to think that a native speaker is a universal solution to any problem. But unfortunately not every problem can be fixed so easily. The fact that almost everybody can be trained as a teacher can’t be denied. Let’s try to figure out what skills and qualities a native speaker should possess to be a decent teacher and in what situations a non-native can teach you better. • The first thing one should be aware of in one’s search of a teacher is the entry level. If your goal is to
obtain general knowledge and learn the basics of a foreign language, a non-native teacher will be more helpful and efficient both in improving your grammar and vocabulary. In this case you will get a solid base for your further studies and a chance to get more detailed and professional explanations from the one who shares your mentality and mother tongue. Additional classes with a native speaker are highly recommended from time to time for a change of air. These classes can be taken in the form of a conversation class corresponding with your current level. • If you want to have lessons with a native speaker you should set your objectives first and define your goals clearly. You should have a lucid idea of what you expect from these lessons. Most people need a native speaker to improve their listening and conversational skills in order to be able to converse with foreign business partners or when living and studying abroad. To be able to get the most from such lessons your entry level should be high enough to absorb the new information and process it. • If you don’t have enough practice and would like to remain fluent in a foreign language, occasional conversation classes with a native are a good form of practice as well. • If your goal is preparation for international exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, FCE etc. a native speaker might be very good aid on the condition he or she is familiar with all the demands and tasks the exam contains. Practicing with a native speaker will certainly help you prepare for a speaking part
and improve your writing skills. • If you need to develop your skills in your professional field like medicine, machinery, oil and gas etc. a native specialist with teaching experience might be of better use as well and he or she will be worth it. Now it’s time to dissipate certain myths about learning the language with native speakers. 1. Pronunciation. It is generally believed that learning a language with a native speaker automatically improves and corrects pronunciation. Well, if one has a good ear for music and picks up sounds really fast it can really work and significantly influence the way one pronounces sounds. In general, a teacher can’t seriously affect the way one articulates sounds unless one is going to copycat every sound or word the teacher says. All professional teachers are familiar with phonetics and sound system of the language they teach, every manual contains phonetic practice and additional phonetic exercises which will just suffice to master basic pronunciation skills. If the ultimate goal is to perfect your pronunciation then you had better hire a professional coach (not necessarily a native speaker) who will give you a specific phonetics course. 2. Understanding. Another popular delusion concerns the problem of understanding what native speakers say. The effect of having speech practice with a native speaker can’t be denied especially on high levels. However, the main
task of learning a foreign language is to be able to understand what all people say and not only the teacher. Although listening to a native will doubtless help you train your ear, one of the key things is: the more words you know the better your listening skills are. It all comes with practice as they say. Watching films, listening to songs and various accents are a good form of additional exercise. 3. Qualification. Before choosing a native speaker over a non-native teacher one should seriously think about the teacher’s qualifications. A professional teacher who is a native speaker will cost you money. If a teacher charges you a lot per lesson he or she should have all the necessary certificates, acknowledgements and credentials. There are native speakers who don’t have a teacher’s diploma but do have great experience in this area. In this case they should inform you what program and method they follow, what manuals they work with etc. Otherwise, it will be way cheaper to go to a bar and practice with expats hanging out
there for free. You will get the same amount of knowledge from it. Professional non-native teachers know the structure of the language and the way a foreign language should be taught, they can understand your mindset and the way you perceive the information. Hence, they are likely to discern the problem you might experience quicker and solve it. To sum it up, you should carefully think what you want to get from your classes and what aspects of the language you want to concentrate on. A native speaker can be of great use if your entry level is high enough to keep up a conversation and you already have some basic knowledge. Don’t be lured by such factors as prestige and price. Everything depends on your needs and goals. Learning a foreign language is a long way that doesn’t boil down to a simple conversation. Therefore, non-native professional teachers who speak the same language with you shouldn’t be underestimated. Remember, the key to success is a successful combination. Good luck learning foreign languages and stay tuned! Yulia Shmigirilova, Leading Methodologist Star Talk Language School www.start2talk.ru

ASK MISS LINGVA
ASK Dear miss Lingva! Give me some advice, please! I am in the 10th form. My problem is great. I want to be a fairy. I would like to fly and help people. But my mother doesn’t allow me to be a fairy. She wants me to be a serious and choose a profession. Why is a fairy not to be a profession? Kupryakhina Valeriya «Hi! Thanks for your interesting question! We encourage you to become an animator of the characters of children’s world. Then will you be able create not only a fairy, but other cartoon characters, movies, and different stories as well. Then you will be able to fulfill your dream and make your mom happy!»
Dear miss Lingva! I have a problem. I’m in love with a girl of our grade. But she doesn’t draw attention to me. I would like her to know about my love. I try to help her with everything. What can I do? I am depressed. Help me. Molchanov Dima «Hi! Oh! Thank for your question. This is a very serious problem. If she really likes you then you need to speak to her. Don’t be shy! My advice; Be courageous! You can present flowers to her. I’m sure, she will be thrilled.
Dear miss Lingva! I am in the 7th grade. I spend a lot of time on the computer. I often chat with my friends after school, and as a result I don’t have time to do my homework. How can I spend my time with benefits? Give me some advice. Burdina Mariya «Nowadays teenagers spend a lot of time on the computer communicating using different social networking sites. Some people think that teenagers prefer virtual friends rather than real ones. In my opinion, friendship in real life better. Communication between people is the most wonderful thing in our lives. Spending a LOT of time on the computer is bad. Spending 1-2 hours on the computer in a day is okay. Spending 2-3 hours is pretty much okay, especially if you need the computer urgently to do important work, but spending more then 5 hours on your computer is quite bad. It can ruin your eyes and give you quite big eye-bags. Exercise your eyes to reduce your risk of computer eye strain. Do some relaxing eye exercises like palming, thumb focusing and scanning. These eye exercises can help you to increase the flexibility of your eye’s muscles and, lower computer eye strain effectively. Blink often if your eyes are dry. When staring at the monitor people would tend to blink less frequently, this will cause eye dry. Let me conclude by saying, not only are computer games and chatting good for education and development of you if you use them properly; but also you have fun with it while you are doing your duties. Meet tour friends, help your mother about the house, do your homework and read books!» 2015, May / missLINGVA
