CONCEPT Brief 2 - Paper Toys OUGD303 FMP
The idea for this brief was to create a unique set of paper toys each based around a selected theme. The themes chosen were Mythical Creatures, Famous TV/Film Robots and Halloween. I researched into each category extensively to found the most popular characters that topped the list so I could include them. The paper toys would come as flat packs ready to buy and assemble. This gives the product more purpose of interaction because the nature of paper toys is that the fun is in making them yourself.
I created a set of 5 fully built paper toys from the Mythical Creatures to show the complete set and how they all share the same illustration style. 3 flat pack kits were created to show how each character from the sets would look as finished products.

The flat pack products are all designed in the format but the labels have been changed to suit each set. It comes printed on double sided thin card so it can give the paper toy full stability once built and stood up right. They come with simple instructions on were to cut and old the character to create an easy assembling product. This is aimed to be fully functional for the younger audience but also be appreciated by the older for its aesthetic appeal.
Having the product flat means it can eliminate any unnecessary folds. The label at the top has been designed to be easily read as to what character it is and what set it is from. The reverse also shows what other characters are from the set so the user can keep track and collect them all. By having it wrapped in cellophane keeps it protected when distributed. The addition of the hole in the label is to make it easier for displaying purpose.

The paper toys themselves are all designed using the same template but all have their own unique illustration treatment. The template follows a simple format with a large head and open mouth. The open mouth gives them another element of interaction and more dimension. The focus is on the head and the body so these have been design to fit onto the main surface of the toy. The legs, feet and arms have been designed flat as not to distract too much from the body and not to over complicate the design.
Each character has been fully investigated to introduce another sense of interaction. These new features can be ears, props or any other objects that are normally associated with the characters. The colour palette has been kept to a very cool and soft approach as not to be too overly bright. It is also something I tend to work with.

SUPPORTING PRODUCT Brief 2 - Paper Toys OUGD303 FMP
To put the paper toys in context and somewhere to display, I have created a backdrop scene. This has been design to fit all 5 from the set inside and features scenes that are most commonly associated with these characters.
