Cherry Blossom in Korea It’s April and the country is covered in white cherry blossom petals, mountains are ablaze with yellow Forsythias, and Sansuyu are blooming in the villages. Here are some of the best places across the nation to visit and enjoy the beautiful Korean blossoms of spring!

Jinhae Cherry Blossom

Welcome to Jinhae, a city covered in white petals like a blanket of delicate snow. It’s no wonder this is the top destination with over 220,000 Cherry Blossom trees in bloom! Jehwangsan Park, Yeojwacheon Stream, and the Naval Academy Anmin Road (approx. 5.6 kilometers long) is lined beautifully and relatively traffic-free, making it the ideal place for that springtime stroll.

Donghak Temple

Located among the peaks of Mt. Gyeryong National Park, about 2 hours South of Osan Air Base, you will find the female monks’ academic center, Donghak Temple. Korea is the only country in the world where female monk sects exist. At any given point, the temple houses about 150 practicing Buddhist females. This is yet another great location to enjoy the cherry blossoms along the three-kilometer-long road. The arching trees create that inspiring tunnel of flowers you’ll never forget. Donghak Temple has been hosting the Spring Flower Festival since 1993. Come, see the cherry blossoms, and enjoy the Korean snacks for a beautiful spring day! Go with ITT! (Page 17 & 18), for more information, call 784-4254

AROUND OSAN Every person has a story to tell...

Senior Airman Jodi Lange, a Pharmacy Technician for Osan Air Base, has been stationed here for eighteen months but will be leaving us for her hometown of Wisconsin in six months. “The cold isn’t much different here,” she said, “it’s the wind that takes some getting used to.” SrA Lange smiled, “So I’m glad it’s getting warmer!” With the spring season right around the corner, Jodi was already making a special point of immersing herself into all Osan Air Base has to offer. She attends and adores the on base Chapel. She was excited about the new Piano Lessons she started at the Community Center. “I’m just a beginner but I’m doing it!” She volunteers her time so honorably in the Troops for Trash program. Jodi participated in the Seoul City Marathon, running a total of 26.2 k for her first time! “It was hard but I did it!” On another adventure, she dared to pump up her adrenaline with a Bungee Jumping trip with Outdoor Recreation. “I had a blast, but it was also terrifying!” SrA Lange loves to visit the Heavenly Bread just outside the base for all kinds of Korean pastries and breakfast. On base, she loves the grilled sandwiches at Bella Panini’s. With the warm season almost here, Jodi plans on experiencing even more before her tour is over. We want to thank SrA Jodi Lange for all she has shared and given!

FORCE MAGAZINE APRIL 2015

John loves all kinds of sports. He talked about participating in football, basketball, and softball games. He even went so far as attending a Korean Baseball game. There was an ITT excursion to a waterpark he went on and had a great time. But when he’s staying on base, his favorite place to get away from it all is the Enlisted Club. The sports-themed, fun environment, has been his perfect place. The Mustang was the close second on his list with both places having so many great things to do. When asked, it was hard for SrA Del Guidice to think of just one favorite food but the category wasn’t hard for he loves all kinds of Korean food. “I like it all but Bulgolgi and Bi-Bim-Bop are my favorites,” he grinned. A great sense of humor with lots of charisma go a very long way with SrA John Del Guidice. We want to wish him the very best!

1LT Norris Potter, Executive Officer and Platoon Leader for Delta 6/52 Air Defense Artillery, has lived in Korea for almost two years. He recently married, having a modern-styled Korean wedding in Seoul only six months ago. His tour here will soon be over as new orders will take him to Fort Campbell Kentucky, but Osan Air Base will never be forgotten and he is already setting goals to return. One of the first things Norris commented on was how safe Korea made him feel, both on and off base. “That’s something I’m not used to but have come to love here,” he said. “Safety and security is always a top priority here.” Norris loves to go off base and experience the Korean culture. He wishes he could take advantage of every ITT trip offered, but on base activities, events, or just a nice dinner are exactly why the Enlisted Club is one of his favorite places to go. “I’ll find any excuse to go for the grilled steak dinner.” Relaxing with his wife in the Star Lounge is one of his ways to rewind after a long day, or week, at work. When asked, 1LT Norris Potter said, “I never realized just how much Osan Air Base has to offer! I’m only starting to learn what’s here, when I’m about to leave. I can’t wait to return and take advantage of the trips with Outdoor Rec, plan trips with ITT, and participate in the special events happening at the Clubs on base.” Hurry back 1LT Norris Potter and experience all Osan Air Base has to offer! We wish you the best!

Around Osan

Senior Airman John Del Guidice, a Weapons Troop for Aircraft Armaments Systems, has served for four and a half years. Though he will be leaving Korea soon for his next tour in Italy, he has thoroughly enjoyed and made the most of this tour here on Osan Air Base.
