Child & Youth Programs are here to provide safe, caring and enriching environments for our children and youth. To keep the Osan Community up-to-date on CYP items, here is information regarding Family Child Care. Family housing towers here at Osan do not allow for the Child & Youth Programs to operate a Family Child Care (FCC) program. This is due to a safety issue. In the event of a fire, the elevators cannot be used and it would be dangerous for one adult to evacuate up to six children typically under 5 years old. AFI 34-276, Family Child Care Programs, 1 NOV 1999, states, ‘Any individuals caring for other families’ children a total of more than 10 hours a week on a regular basis must be licensed to provide care in onbase quarters.’ However individuals MAY provide baby-sitting on an occasional basis for other families or friends, teenagers may baby-sit for families during evening/weekends or child care may be provided in the parents’ own home. Temporary full-time care of a child during a parent’s absence for temporary duty or deployment by the person listed on the AF Form 357, Family Care Plan would be allowed. Violation of this regulation may revoke the housing privileges of individuals who provide child care.

Yongmun Temple
Changduk Palace Sunday, 5 March
Changdeokgung Palace was the second royal villa built following the construction of Gyeongbukgung Palace in 1405. It was the principal palace for many kings of the Joseon Dynasty, and is the most wellpreserved of the five remaining royal Joseon palaces. The palace grounds are comprised of a public palace area, a royal family residence building, and the rear garden. Known as a place of rest for the kings, the rear garden boasts a gigantic tree that is over 300 years old, a small pond and a pavilion. The palace gained importance starting from the time of Seongjong, the 9th king of Joseon, when a number of kings began using it as a place of residence. Unfortunately, the palace was burned down by angry citizens in 1592 when the royal family fled their abode during the Japanese invasion of Korea. Thanks to Gwanghaegun, the palace was restored in 1611. Even today, it houses a number of cultural treasures, such as Injeongjeon Hall, Daejojeon Hall, Seonjeongjeon Hall, and Nakseonjae. Though it has been treasured by Koreans for centuries, Changdeokgung Palace was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site by the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Committee in December of 1997 during the committee meeting in Naples, Italy.
Sunday, 13 March Yongmunsa Temple is located about 9km northeast from Yongmun station on the Jungang line. It was built during the Silla Kingdom and reconstructed during the reign of King Sejong of the Joseon Dynasty. It was badly damaged during the Korean War, but was restored and now consists of three buildings, the main hall, daeungjeon, and the bell tower. Its courtyard contains the largest gingko tree in the East, which is 1,100 years old, measures 60m in height and 14m in circumference and is designated and protected as natural monument no. 30. Legend says the great Buddhist monk Uisang, who lived during the Silla Kingdom, stuck his staff in the earth, and the tree grew out of the simple staff.
Activity Information * Temple stay Experience the ascetic life and enjoy peace of mind and traditional culture at a temple that combines nature and Buddhist culture. FORCE MAGAZINE MARCH 2016
Saturday,5 & Monday, 21 March Dreams Become Reality, the Land of Year-Round Festivals!’ Everland is divided into five sections: American Adventure, Magic Land, European Adventure, Zoo Topia, and Global Fair.
Mt. Naebyeonsan Saturday, 26 March
Located near the front entrance of Everland, the Global Fair is home to a large bazaar decorated with reproductions of castles from France, Middle Eastern countries, Spain, India, and Russia. Not only visually captivating, the various architectural styles invite visitors into the culture and history of other nations, such as the Ancient and Medieval Periods of Europe. The Four Seasons Garden of Everland is decorated with beautiful flowers arranged in a French-style garden. Surrounded by Holland-style architecture, the gardens are the stage for seasonal flower festivals (tulips from April to June, lilies from July to August, and chrysanthemums from September to October, as well as Romantic Illumination, a light festival, in the winter season), laser shows, firewoks and musical fountain shows. The Zoo Topia section of the park is the where guests can find the everpopular Safari World and Lost Valley. In Safari World, white tigers, tigers, lions, and bears roam around freely, providing guests with an up-close look at these amazing creatures. In Lost Valley, visitors can see white tigers and other various herbivore animals riding on exciting amphibious vehicles, and even feed some of their favorite animals like giraffes.
The Byeonsanbando Peninsula has a shoreline that stretches 99 kilometers, protruding into the west sea in Jeollabuk-do, with the Saemangeum, the world’s longest man-made sea barrier, to the north and Gomsoman Bay at its south shore. The peninsula is part of Byeonsanbando National Park, which is widely known for its natural beauty. Its interior mountain range is known as Naebyeonsan Mountain (Inner Byeonsan Mt.) while the outer region near the sea is known as Oebyeonsan Mountain (Outer Byeonsan Mt.) The center of Mt. Naebyeonsan includes the highest peak of Byeonsanbando peninsula, Uisangbong Peak (509 meters) and Nakjodae (Sunset Viewpoint), Wolmyeongam Hermitage, Bongnaegugok Valley as well as Jiksopokpo Waterfall. The surrounding mountains and valleys of Mt. Byeonsan are not particularly high, standing at an altitude of around 500-600 meters, but the magnificent formation of mountains and valleys as well as the breathtaking view of the sunset from Nakjodae make it a must-see sight.

What is Commercial Sponsorship? (민간단체 후원 프로그램이란?) The Air Force Commercial Sponsorship Program is designed to use civilian resources to enhance morale and recreation elements of FSS programs, activities and events. Commercial Sponsorship may take the form of goods, cash or services in exchange for limited sponsor recognition and promotional benefits to sponsors. Commercial Sponsorship is an exchange of value between the Force Support Squadron and a civilian company, corporation or individual.
