CYP FACTOID:
The Child & Youth Programs are here to provide safe, caring and enriching environments for your children. Osan’s family tower housing does not allow Family Child Care (FCC) programs due to safety issues. In the event of a fire, the elevators cannot be used and it would be dangerous for one adult to evacuate several children under 5 years old. AFI 34-276, Family Child Care Programs, 1 NOV 1999, states: “Any individuals caring for other families’ children a total of more than 10 hours a week on a regular basis must be licensed to provide care in on-base quarters.” Individuals MAY provide baby-sitting on an occasional basis for other families or friends. Teenagers may baby-sit evening/weekends or child care may be provided in the parents’ own home. Temporary full-time care of a child during a parent’s absence for temporary duty or deployment by the person listed on the AF Form 357, Family Care Plan would be allowed. Violation of this regulation may revoke housing privileges of individuals who provide child care.

SAP Youth of the Month Carmelo Bocade Railroad Museum
Say hello to Carmelo Bocade, a 7 year old in the 5th grade at the Osan American Elementary School. His favorite place at SAP is the S.T.E.M. room because of his love for computers. He wants to be a scientist when he grows up. “I want to make potions!” Carmello shows great citizenship and is always willing to lend a hand to both his peers and the program assistants here at SAP! AROUND OSAN EVERY PERSON HAS A STORY TO TELL.. SFC Alice O. Bauknight joined the U.S. Army 18 years and 6 months ago. She was thinking of retiring when her LTC said, “Give the Army 3 more.” She made the MSG promotion list! It was a great moment for her. SFC Bauknight is stationed at Suwon AB with the 6-52 Battalion, S3 Operations NCOIC, but she lives near Osan AB. “I enjoy the drive home after work. I love my job and grab every moment I can after to visit all my favorites places.” SFC Bauknight’s first job was at Captain D’s so she eats there often. “Another one of my favorite places is the Turumi Lodge! The coffee shop upstairs is awesome.” SFC Bauknight smiled. “The last time I was stationed on Osan was from 2005-2006. It has changed a lot and for the better! I really enjoy Chili’s and definitely the bowling alley. The library was very useful when I first arrived. Their resources allowed me to conduct business without having to drive to Suwon.” Someday, if SFC Bauknight ever does retire, she dreams of owning a personal loan company. Until then, she’s living life to the fullest and looking forward to being with her two kids again. SFC Bauknight, FSS wants to congratulate you! Thank you for all your support!
1st Lt David J. Geaney, a War Reserve Materiel Officer for the U.S. Air Force, came to Osan Air Base with his family last November. This is his first time in Korea. “I’m adjusting fine,” he said, “but picking up my car and driving it back to base with a broken GPS was the worst moment since arriving. I haven’t driven off base since,” he laughed. The Lieutenant has a degree in Chinese. “I want to visit China during my two year stay. It would be an incredible experience.” As everyone quickly realizes after arriving, Osan AB always has something going on. “The first exercise I went through in December was really busy. Trial by fire… it was all good.” In his spare time, when he isn’t teaching resume writing to active duty and military veterans, Lt Geaney is socializing most Friday nights with friends at the Officers’ Club. He also enjoys Membership Night, watching movies at the theater, and going bowling with his family at MiG Alleys. “Someday, I want to open my own business and help market the first manned mission to Mars.” Wow! Lt Geaney has awesome dreams and everyone here at FSS wants to wish him and his family the best time ever while they’re stationed here!
