www.51FSS.com

AROUND OSAN Every person has a story to tell..

Captain Benjamin Smith of Delta Battery, 6-52 Air Defense Artillery (ADA), arrived with his family in South Korea two and a half years ago. He stood tall and proud. “I’ve served for eight years and getting command here on Osan Air Base has been the best experience so far.” Captain Smith’s charismatic personality unifies his soldiers and ups morale. “I’m from Buffalo, New York,” he said. “Adjusting quickly was easy for me,” he smiled. “I do miss those big cheeseburgers from back home, but I found a new favorite called The Oriental House.” That’s convenient because Captain Smith’s favorite hangout is The Lakes at Osan Golf Course. “Golfing, seeing movies with my family, those are just a few of the things I love to do here.” From his most difficult time driving a car in Seoul, to one of his most memorable when his Patriot Missile Battery received Certification, more than anything, the Captain wants to get at least one more round of golf in before he leaves Osan, and his ultimate dream is to see his son graduate college. “I will always remember the great support from our brothers and sisters in the Air Force.” On behalf of FSS, thank you Captain Smith for all the positive support you’ve brought to Osan and South Korea. We wish you and your family all the best!

Senior Airman Robert Mason, a Broadcast Journalist, has been in the Air Force for a little more than 3 years. Osan Air Base is his first tour in Korea but not his first time overseas. “It hasn’t been hard getting used to everything. I grew up a military brat so I’ve always moved around a lot.” His way of dealing with new cultures is to learn by experiencing everything. “I went on a hiking trip to Gyeryongsan with ITT. It was amazing and exactly as strenuous as I wanted it to be. Korea has so much to offer! I love the bold and spicy Asian food.” Besides his adventures off-base, SrA Mason frequents the Mustang Resiliency Center on Osan. “The Beef Bulgogi is awesome and they always have beer on tap.” He also loves to hangout at the Community Center where he took piano and guitar lessons. From hobbies like playing guitar to racing taxi’s while riding his bike, SrA Robert Mason continually finds things on and off base that could fill an adventure book. The most difficult time for him was when he had to dress up as AFN’s Eagle Mascot for Osan’s radio network. “It’s part of the job,” he shrugged and smiled. Before his tour is over, he wants to visit the Seoul Tower. SrA Mason is determined to make the most of everything Osan Air Base has to offer. Everyone here at FSS want to thank you SrA Robert Mason for your daily contributions. We wish you the very best on all your adventures!
