On August 14, 2015 we are hosting a Mitchell’s Club “Thank You” for your support during the “Voice of the Customer” focus group held in February 2015. We have worked hard towards improving customer service, programming, menus, monthly specials and much more…and it’s now time to party! So plan your calendar and join us for a Friday night of great food, entertainment and fun!! Be sure to either cover up or have enough sunblock to protect you during this summer season; and remember, never leave children or pets in vehicles under the sun! Lastly, the new Casey Walkway Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in conjunction with a 3K Fun Run/Walk will be held across from Carey Fitness Center on July 11 at 9 a.m. Come be a part of the ceremony or just bring your gym clothes and enjoy a nice run or brisk walk!

Friday, August 14 / 4 - 7 p.m. Camp Red Cloud, Mitchell’s Club “We’ve Listened to Your Voices, Now We’re Throwing a Party for You!” Members of the USAG Red Cloud community lent their voices during a Voice of the Customer (VOC) Focus Group Meeting on February 2015. During the weeklong event, information was gathered regarding participant observations and recommendations on how best to serve customers at Camp Red Cloud, Mitchell’s Club. The input received was sincere and even brutally honest at times. We’ve asked participants not to hold anything back, and we were certainly pleased with the range of answers and solutions provided. It’s been almost 5 months since and the Mitchell’s Club Team has undertaken several actions to implement change; some subtle and some overt, all in an effort to address concerns pointed out during the VOC group meetings. We as a team listened to our customers’ voices, and frankly, can’t wait to showcase the full range
“We owe our customers so much for their input during the VOC Analysis and for the subsequent months thereafter, in which we’ve conferred with them, deliberated and fine-tuned the initial plan to the one we have today. Our Camp Red Cloud customers are vital to our operations, and so it makes logical sense that we listen and provide them with the service and quality they deserve,” said Howard Kuroda, Chief of Business Operations Division. “We’ve implemented meaningful changes since February 2015, our Mitchell’s Club Team and the community has a reason to celebrate, and what better way to show our appreciation than to throw a fun party for our customers!” Kuroda cheerfully added. The party will commence at 4 p.m. all the way until 7 p.m. featuring both indoor and outdoor activities that include food sampling, live stage entertainment, FMWR drawings and giveaways and the Mitchell’s Club’s first themed event since the VOC: ‘Blues and BBQ Night.’ The Area I Community is invited to join a Friday night Texas BBQ after a hectic workweek and relax to live Blues music at the Mitchell’s Club outdoor venue. If you happen to be at CRC on August 14, just swing on by once the blues music plays and you start smelling the BBQ----we’re just warming up and getting the party started for you! The VOC Appreciation Party is a great event to showcase our customers’ recommended changes. The Mitchell’s Club Servers will have a chance to model their new uniforms, the Cook Staff will present food samples based on an upgraded menu selection, customers will get to dine in a newly themed environment, the USAG-Red Cloud civilian community will get to participate in a fun Blues and BBQ Night complete with fun activities, to include live entertainment while in the company of family, friends and fellow Soldiers. “The Voice of the Customer Focus Group didn’t stop in February 2015. In fact, it will continue for as long as Area I Family & MWR facilities exist” Kuroda began, “Our customers’ input is vital in shaping the way we provide services to the community. This is why we put a lot of stock in customer interaction, getting a feel for what they’d like to expect or experience so our facility managers could position themselves better and effectively provide customers with the quality products and services they deserve.” “I highly encourage community members to ‘voice’ their wants and needs with our FMWR managers, to use Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) cards, to pick up the phone or email us with their suggestions. It’s the only way we’ll know if we’re meeting or failing their expectations as a customer, and a means for us to track our own areas of strengths and weaknesses. Either way, we certainly welcome and are grateful, for any input the Area I community can provide.” Kuroda sincerely added. Join us on Friday, August 14, 2015 at our Voice of the Customer, Appreciation Party at Camp Red Cloud, Mitchell’s Club. We will host a private event for our VIP Voice of the Customer participants, their guests and community leaders from 4 – 5 p.m., after which the “Blues & BBQ Night” will be held at the venue from 5 – 7 p.m. Camp Red Cloud installation rarely gets to host community-wide events like these, so make sure you mark those calendars---bring your family, friends or battle buddies along, and get your weekend started right with our Friday night party at the Mitchell’s Club! COMMUNITY NOTICE The Mitchell’s Club Dining Room will be closed after lunch on Thursday, August 13 until August 14 in preparation for the Voice of the Customer, Appreciation Party. There will be no Lunch Buffet on Friday, August 14. Please bear with us as we create a better Mitchell’s Club environment for you.

Area I BOSS
Wolmido Island Tour Feature Article
Feature Article
“The BOSS Experience, One Tour Memory at a Time”
By: SPC Sean Sweeny
Some of you might have been here for a while, while some may have just arrived to Area I and are probably thinking that there’s not much to do around here besides sitting around, or spending your paycheck every weekend down at the ‘Ville.’ As a BOSS representative stationed in Korea for more than 5 months, I can definitively say there’s so much more to do than playing video games in your barracks or spending your money at the Ville every weekend.
theme rides available. While walking along the boardwalk you will encounter a multitude of arcades and other amusement selections providing fun things to do such as dart tossing, where the goal is to pop as many balloons as possible to win a stuffed prize, target shooting with BB guns, bumper cars and a whole slew of standard arcade stalls for the gamers.
For starters, the perfect way to find out about what’s going on is to pick up the latest issue of the In the Zone magazine or head over to your local Community Activities Center (CAC) to see what they have to offer. From there you can choose from a wide variety of trips and activities with pickup points from Camp Casey, Hovey, Red Cloud, and Stanley, with all CAC Centers working together to provide customers with the most memorable and enjoyable trips in the Korean peninsula.
The boardwalk area offers a fun assortment of games and activities, but there’s also an emphasis on beauty and aesthetics, starting with the terrific waterfront view to the statues lining the area, both offering artistic or historical significance in memory of certain Korean periods and events. If you ever decide to stop by, just make sure you spend a couple minutes at the water fountain. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill water fountain, the water is actually fired off to music, providing an entertaining feature that was enjoyable to watch as it turns into a show of its own.
That is just what I did when I went to the Camp Red Cloud CAC and saw that there was a trip to Wolmido Island, near Incheon, Korea. The tour was quite appealing and I wanted to learn more about what the area had to offer----it turned out, I wasn’t the only one curious since the trip sold out rather quickly! After leaving our last departure point in Area I, the bus ride lasted about an hour and twenty minutes to our final destination. At first glance, Wolmido Island may not seem like much of an ‘island’ given that it is only 1 km off the coast of Incheon…but don’t let that fool you, the place certainly has that island vibe going on and I was about to find out more.
The highlight of the trip was the cruise offered on the boardwalk, which was reasonably priced at W16000 per person. When we first were told about it, it seemed just like any other cruise going along the shore for about ninety minutes or so, providing a nice overall view of the area; but it turned out to be much, much more than that. Once we boarded the ship we were guided into a show room, and immediately upon departing, the entertainment began.
Once we got off the bus we were free to explore and experience much of what the area had to offer. If you’re hungry and in the mood for seafood, there isn’t a better location near Seoul for you to visit, given the large variety of fresh seafood options available. One visitor certainly enjoyed the menu “I ordered clams, mussels, shrimp and grilled lobster, and that was definitely one of the best Korean seafood lunches I’ve had in a while” said Ms. Brenda Dean with a smile. As a port island, Wolmido has a wide selection of seafood passing through on a daily basis, so if fresh seafood is just your thing, you’ll never run out of food options while in the area. If you’re looking for more traditional meals, don’t worry, there’s plenty of other options ranging from fast food to your regular Korean BBQ restaurants available. Eating isn’t the only attraction (although it’s a very good one) since Wolmido Island is essentially a fairly large boardwalk venue after all. They have a family attraction called ‘Play Hill’ which even though might not be as huge as Everland or Lotte World, still creates a carnival atmosphere providing amusement for a group of friends or for families to enjoy together. This was exactly what First Sergeant Esther Spears set out to do. “This was a very family oriented trip, providing our kids with plenty of fun things to do during the weekend, quite a lot for both parents and children to experience together.” If you think it’s all about kids at Play Hill, don’t be disappointed, the designers have separated the area into 2 segments, with one catering to young children and the other for more mature visitors with more age-appropriate

For the next half hour or so, we were entertained by a group of four very talented dancers who performed a few different dances, a juggler who showed off his juggling and balancing skills, and a vocalist; who all performed flawlessly and were very much engaged with the audience. Once the show was over, we then went above deck and gazed out onto the water and enjoyed the view as swarms of seagulls followed the ship, some of which fed off snacks held by cruise participants. “It was similar to other cruises I’ve been on before, but this was very relaxing and the dancing, singing, and juggling performances were wonderful; overall, it was a great experience, and certainly worth every Won” Ms. Dean added with enthusiasm. Knowing that the place is only 1.5 hours away from Area I via bus and accessible through the Korean subway system, makes me definitely want to go back and experience the rest of the area, since one afternoon wasn’t nearly enough time to enjoy it all. That is the beauty of the BOSS program, and the trips they present in coordination with CAC or Outdoor Recreation. You can experience places you never would’ve thought of and participate in fun tours like this while stationed in Korea. So the next time you think ‘There’s Nothing to Do’ in Area I….well, you’re right; there’s nothing to do if you’re stuck inside your barracks every weekend, but there’s certainly a lot more to see and experience when you start hanging out with BOSS. Visit your local Community Activity Center or contact your Unit’s BOSS Representative for the next tour you can sign up for! *Don’t miss out on Family & MWR Tours and Activities, sign up for the Warrior’s Compass weekly digital subscription! For many of us, the start of each New Year also means the beginning of tax season! It is during this time of year, one can easily find Mrs. Megan Moran, at the Second Infantry Division (2ID) Tax Center, assisting Soldiers and community members alike, with preparation and filing of Income Taxes. Actively volunteering with the Second Infantry Division Tax Centers for the last two tax seasons, Mrs. Moran has accumulated over 289 hours of volunteer service as a Tax Preparer. Having been a former manager for H&R Block, Megan was eager to bring her experience and expertise in tax preparation to the Area I Community. In so doing, she has been instrumental in providing accurate and professional tax preparation services for tax returns at all levels. In addition to qualifying her expertise, Megan has since completed several grueling exams to become an IRScertified tax preparer, making her an invaluable addition to a tax center that has processed over $2,000,000 in returns, thus saving Soldiers and their families more than $175,000 in tax preparation fees. Also a staple within the Division Tax Center, Mrs. Moran constantly strives to make a difference, finding ways to improve the tax center and the services it provides. She has traveled to the Joint Security Area (JSA) with the mobile tax team to provide services to the United

Nations Security Battalion, a location at the top of the pointed spear. Mrs. Moran’s efforts brought valuable tax preparation services to Soldiers who otherwise do not have readily available access to the tax centers in Area I. She also takes the time to foster training and mentor some of the Soldiers who serve as special duty tax preparers. Vermicelli Noodles
잡채 Japchae is a stir-fried dish that combines sweet vermicelli noodles made from the starch of a white sweet potato, thinly slices of beef, and various vegetables. It is usually prepared with carrots, green onion, spinach, shiitake mushrooms and green peppers. Beef may be added as an option but may be left out to be served as a vegetarian dish. The noodles are gray when raw and turn almost translucent when cooked (thus given its popular nickname, glass noodles). When cooked correctly, they retain a chewy texture. Japchae is often served at Korean parties and during special occasions as the main dish or as a side dish. It can be added to a bed of rice and mixed together to make japchaebop, bop meaning rice.
