WRITING IN THE MARGINS In the past, I have used this column to highlight new services the Eisenhower Library will be offering you. This time, I am highlighting something we are taking away. It’s a long-standing tradition in public libraries to charge fines for overdue items. We want our focus to be on removing barriers to serving our tax payers and not on collecting more money from them. With that shift in mindset, our Board of Trustees has voted to eliminate overdue fines for residents of Norridge and Harwood Heights. Non-residents who use our library will still have to pay overdue fines. Everyone will have to pay replacement costs and processing fees for lost or damaged items. There will still be due dates on borrowed materials. As a resident, if you have items overdue, you will be asked to return them before checking out more items. Keeping track of your account while you’re on the go is easy. Our mobile app, BookMyne, is available for Apple and Android mobile devices. Search for “BookMyne” in the Google Play or Apple App Store and install the free app. After entering your account information, you can log in from anywhere to see your checked out items and their due dates. You can see on-hold items, too. You can also ask us to add your email address to your account and we’ll send you emails to let you know about upcoming due dates. We want you to know that we are completely committed to meeting the needs of the residents of Norridge and Harwood Heights. We’re your Eisenhower Library and we’re here for you. Stacy Wittmann, Library Director

June 8th is Best Friends Day, July 13th is Embrace Your Geekness Day, and August 29th is According to Hoyle Day, named for Edmond Hoyle, the classic writer of game rulebooks. At Eisenhower, we’re celebrating friendship, games, and geekiness all year long. With our new collection of board and card games, teens can pick up games like Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Tickets to Ride, Fisticuffs, Apples to Apples, and more at the Answers Desk for use in the library.
