WELCOME TO THE CARMAN COUNTRY FAIR Dufferin Agricultural Society President Gerald Brezinski I wish to welcome you all to the 2014 edition of the Carman Country Fair. I come from a small rural town, growing up on a farm north and west of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. I was born on the day of the parade of our then Annual Agricultural Fair. My Mom still jokes about her having a baby and still being able to watch the parade. That same day, my Dad lost his watch. I’m sure we all have memories of fairs gone by, some good and maybe some not so good, like the day my kid brother was convinced to buy a poster he didn’t really want thus spending the little bit of allowance he was given. Difficult for a young boy not to be able to buy that corn dog he waited all year for. Those days, and my Dad are gone now - the fair in my home town no longer exists but has always remained an important part of growing up and in my memory. We have that privilege here in Carman. Remember, cherish this fair for what it is, an Agricultural Fair, a meeting place, a reflection of our upbringing, our parents’ and our Grandparents’ heritage. My wife Joe-Ann and I moved to Carman 2 years ago, experiencing our first Carman Country Fair as vendors in the Exhibit Hall. We were refreshed to encounter such a wonderful Ag Fair. And, as with any event, this fair cannot function without the time and effort given by our volunteers. Take the time to thank them, or better yet, volunteer on the DAS board or contribute to another event in Carman and experience the satisfaction that being a volunteer brings. Please also support our sponsors and advertisers. I invite you to bring the kids, the “in-laws” and the “outlaws” or someone who hasn’t been here before. Enjoy the fair, take in the sights and sounds. Forget your troubles for a short time, perhaps get “lost” on a midway ride or try something new to eat. Enjoy the entertainment, the animals, the displays.....Have fun. See you at the fair!

WELCOME TO THE CARMAN COUNTRY FAIR Town of Carman & R.M. of Dufferin
On behalf of the citizens and the councils of the Town of Carman and the Rural Municipality of Dufferin, we would like to take this opportunity to say welcome to our community and the Carman Country Fair. We’re very proud of the community and the fair showcases the spirit of our community. The Carman Country Fair is a true community event that will entertain you, whether you are looking for the thrill of the midway or the energy of the stage showcasing various talents. Additionally, you will see our community come together with many volunteers helping put together a weekend full of entertainment for the whole family. You will be amazed at the execution, energy and entertainment value that the community is able to bring together. Throughout the fair weekend, we would encourage visitors to explore the community beyond the main fair event locations and experience the place we call home. Enjoy a round of golf, go for a swim or explore our 6 km walking path. We have an excellent community and we encourage you to come back again soon to experience more of what our community offers. Best wishes for an entertaining weekend,

DEL BARBER & THE PROFITERS SATURDAY JULY 12, 2014 MAIN STAGE
9:15 p.m. Del Barber’s winsome, lonesome balladry leaves dusty footprints on the floor, traces of country-folk traditions that guide back to the late greats of songwriting history. Headwaters, Barber’s third album, picks up the trail with a set of prairie parables that lead through finely crafted confessionals and twang-kissed tales of desires lived, left and lost. Del Barber is a singer-songwriter from Winnipeg, Canada, whose lanky frame and cowboy slouch could make him a character straight out of a dustbowl novel. Experienced in the art of haphazard employment and with a personal odometer that has been racking up miles for years, Barber’s songwriting is a homecoming, a return, a reconciliation of restlessness and experience. His capacity to weave experiences and characters stem from a keen understanding of narrative, phrasing and metaphor, which get tied together by his polished finger-style guitar work, warm hometown melodies and his intoxicating personality. Carrying on in the tradition of legends like Townes Van Zandt, Greg Brown, Neil Young and John Prine, Del Barber breathes new life into old forms with a cutting sense of humour, a hint of cynicism, and songs that span the gulf between the sacred and the profane. Del Barber has emerged as one of the next wave in Canada’s proud tradition of songwriting talent. Headwaters is a headstrong leap forward for Barber, buoyed by the momentum of his previous album, the award-winning Love Songs for the Last Twenty. Recorded partly in Winnipeg and partly in Maine, US, the record blends a traveler’s sense of place with a wanderer’s sense of time, simultaneously urgent and patient, measured and confident. STEVE CHMARA
Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 11:40 p.m. DOWNTOWN Magical entertainer Steve Chmara has spent his career performing rare and little known illusions from the late 19th and early 20th century. This time period, known as the late Victorian and early Edwardian era was the first golden age of magic from which many of today’s modern illusions have evolved. Steve has spent his career taking ideas from this age and reviving them with a 21st century twist. His performance is a combination of modern improvisational street magic and classic contemporary illusion. This unique style creates a show where the audience members and the performer are equally responsible for the success of every illusion you will witness this evening. Ladies and Gentalmen, introducing the rare and unique magic of Steve Chmara! 8 Carman Country Fair 2014

LEANNE PEARSON
THURSDAY 9:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. FREE GRANDSTAND Leanne Pearson has been described by industry folk as level headed, mature, sweet, funny and very talented. This Canadian country rocker walks on stage with a pretty dress and a big smile, then shatters your expectations as she tears up the stage. If her name is familiar, that’s because she is apart of this years much anticipated Dauphin’s Countryfest 2014 line up, a mere two years after being crowned the winner of the 2012 Countryfest Talent Contest. Leanne’s debut album “Serendipity” was released in January 2013. Radio stations across the country added “Get Outta My Heart” with high praise. It hit Top 48 on the Canadian Country Music Charts. Country Music Television (CMT) added the quirky music video, which turned heads across the country. Recently, “The Only Thing” hit Top 80 on the Canadian Country Music Charts. In April 2011, Leanne graduated with a B.A. from the University of Manitoba, where she is on the Dean’s Honour List. If it is not enough that Leanne has brains, beauty and musical talent, she is also one tough cookie with a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. “There’s a thing about Leanne, it’s the ‘get it’ factor. She understands who she is, is confident in who she is and is not trying to be somebody else. Her voice is ridiculously good and she has this sweetness about her.” - CMT’s Casey Clarke “We like to brag by saying; Winnipeg’s own Leanne Pearson! Because if I were a betting man,I’d bet that Leanne is going places. Pure energy, great stage presence and a big time sound.

TRAVIS RINTOUL BAND Saturday, 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. MAIN STAGE FAIRGROUNDS Diversity in Music… Although long regarded as a country music artist, Travis Rintoul has always had a keen interest in all musical styles and genres. From country to jazz to rock n’ roll, there is no style that is too far gone. This diversity certainly comes out in Travis’ live performances as well as his own songwriting. Audiences first met Travis Rintoul back in 2004, when he was front-man for southern Manitoba country/rock group, Eastbound & Down. Back then Travis and his band could be seen at fairs and festivals throughout Manitoba, opening for the likes of Colin James, The Stampeders, Kenny Shields & Streetheart, as well as many others. Priding themselves on a broad base of musical interests, it was not uncommon to hear everything from Hank Williams to Eminem or from Alan Jackson to AC/DC, often times all in the same set! To this day, Travis is still regarded as one of the few performers to sing a rap song while wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. Throughout the years Travis has continued to develop his own unique songwriting style. His storytelling lyrics and straight forward country melodies will often take you back to a simpler time. Drawing on his experiences throughout rural Canada, Travis plans to continue to write songs that matter, based on real life experiences that everyone can relate to. 16

MANITOBA MINIATURE HORSE CLUB
The D.A.S. once again welcomes the Manitoba Miniature Horse Club. The MMHC was formed in 1993 and celebrated their 20th anniversary last year, by holding their MMHC Show in Carman, the site of the first club show 20 years ago. The Club was formed with the goals of developing, promoting, breeding, training and exhibiting these wonderful horses. Miniature Horses are ideal as first horses for children, as companion horses for retirees, and they are great for everyone in between. These tiny equine have become known as “The Horse for Everyone”. The club members have had the opportunity to participate in a Trail Drive a number of country fairs and parades, Social Events which included skating, and an Awards Night. In the past, they hosted a 2 day clinic with guest clinicians Sami Scheuring from San Francisco, CA and Michelle Meacham from Oxford MS. Both of these clinicians have judged at the World Show in Fort Worth as well as conducted clinics around the world. A recent feature will be the return of Hackney Pony Classes to the fair. If you enjoy the energy and high stepping of these horses, you will not want to miss the Miniature & Hackney Hose show on Friday, July 11, 2014. At these events, many new friendships have been made and everybody has learned something or taught something, or both! Visit their website: http://www.manitobaminiaturehorseclub.org to learn more or find an event near you. New members are welcome.

MANITOBA SHORTHORN ASSOCIATION Saturday SHOW RING #2 The Manitoba Shorthorn Association is an organization which brings together Shorthorn breeders and enthusiasts with the common goal of producing and promoting quality Shorthorn cattle. Members include producers who raise purebred Shorthorns, those that take advantage of the hybrid vigor a Shorthorn brings to crossbreeding programs, and Junior members that enjoy showing their Shorthorn calves. Manitoba Shorthorn producers make their presence felt by exhibiting at major shows such as the Canadian Western Agribition and the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. The influence of Manitoba raised Shorthorns can also be found in pedigrees throughout Canada and the United States. The Shorthorn breed is gaining popularity once again as cattle producers are taking note of strong maternal traits, coupled with excellent carcass performance and tremendous cross-breeding potential. Studies have shown that Shorthorn and Shorthorn cross feedlot calves outperform other breeds when it comes to average daily gain, feed conversion and carcass grades. If you would like to learn more about Shorthorn cattle or would like to become part of the Manitoba Shorthorn Association, please cotact any one of the members on the Board of Directors. Please visit our website http://manitobashorthorns.com/

Speeches are judged and the winner of each category goes on to the regional competition. In spring, our members have weekly riding lessons beginning in May. A couple of day long Horsemanship Clinics are also organized for the members. Throughout the year, members participate in fundraising projects to earn money to pay for the horsemanship clinics and coaching.
