MB Limousin News & Views Fall Round-Up Issue 2019

Canadian Limousin Breeders The CLA is looking to share stories of our members through pictures and memories of the past 50 years. These will be shared on social media and advertising material in preparation for some of the upcoming highlights of the year, October issue of the Limousin Voice and culminating in the 50th Anniversary Celebration, November 1st – 4th, at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Toronto, ON. I realize that fall is such a busy time of year and time waits for no one, but one rainy, down day, please take a few minutes and jot some notes down on the enclosed form and send back to the Canadian Limousin Association along with a picture or two. CLA would like to hear from all its members especially those who were involved in the Limousin breed in the early years. The Canadian Limousin Association has an exceptional foundation of members whose livelihood depends on the Limousin breed so let’s tell their story. I am currently working on a Power Point Presentation which will be shown at the 50th Anniversary celebrations. Please participate. Don’t miss out! A hearty thank

We have individual and packages of bred Hunt Credentials 37C ET heifers for sale. They are sound, deep bodied and are developing beautiful udders. We used AI sire; RPY Paynes Cracker RPY 17E on a group of synchronized heifers in HUNT CREDENTIALS 37C ET 2018. The resulting 2019 calves arrived easily out of these first calf heifers and carried on with loads of muscle development and growth. Due to this success, we once again used Cracker in our heifer AI program in 2019 . Are you short of feed? Ask us about our feed/calve program for these heifers.

LEN ANGUS Leonard Bar tel Angus, December 20, 1949 – June 18, 2019 It is with a ver y heav y hear t that we announce the sudden passing of Len Bar tel Angus on June 18th, 2019 at the age of 69. Our lives changed forever. Len was born December 20, 1949 in Roblin, the third child of Bar tel and Ila May (Ready) Angus. He slipped away just as quietly as he had lived his life. His love for the land and the bush ran so deep it consumed him. (At the age of 65 years, I asked “Now that you have grown up can you pick one career?”) He never could decide; he couldn’t, because he had such a profound love for them both. So, God took his tired body home. Except for five years when he worked in Winnipeg as an iron worker, Calgar y as a labourer, Manitouwadge, Ontario in the mine, he lived on the farm where he was raised. He couldn’t wait to see the city in his rear-view mirror. When in the city he never thought that the grass would ever turn green. He then made his way to Quesnel, B.C. first in the mills, then as a faller in the bush. He totally fell in love with the bush. He told his employer he had fell timber, but he didn’t tell them it was just fire wood, which ever y farm boy does. When he showed up to work with 2 brand new Stihl power saws, the guy knew then and there that he had bluffed to get the job. He learned quickly and soon was falling for 3 skidders and happy. During his time in Quesnel, he took up sky diving. Always pushing the limits, he drove a motorc ycle and a firebird. Later canoeing and fishing replaced the sky diving. When we went shopping for an engagement ring, he came home with a big yellow canoe instead. Six months later we married in the Knox United Church on Friday Oc tober 5, 1973 and again November 1998. We came home for a week and stayed for 45 1/2 years. The first five years, in the winters we lived in the bush, in Timber tine, Happy Lake, Flin Flon, Denare Beach and Swan River and the summers on the farm. The first years he logged for Spud Cockerill, Leroy Sanders, Monty Cockerill, Simpson Timber, Britcher Bros, and for the last 20 years for Louisiana Pacific, Roblin Forest Produc ts, and Spruce Produc ts. When the kids became school age, we built our home from plans that Len had drawn up, with the logs from off the farm. Ever y few years Len would draw more plans and we’d build granaries, chicken coops, loose housing barns and calving barns. Len loved cattle. Limousin was the breed he chose. He built a herd, a brand, JL or the name Jaymarandy Limousin. Our first limousin bulls were purchased from Glenkair Farms (Glen, Bob, and Allen Powell) of Grandview, Manitoba. We built our herd from limousin cows purchased from Stewar t Ranching, Kenw ynn Ranching, Beaver Valley Farms and Golden Limousin having wonder ful success. Together, we raised Canadian National Bull Test and Saskatchewan Bull Test station High Gaining bulls and eventually raised the Reser ve National Champion Limousin Bull in 2005 and the 2009 Canadian Show bull of the year. All bred up from about 16 generations from the initial purchases. He took great pride in it, yet, he always stayed humble and never bragged about it. He was a cattle breeder, not a cattle buyer. For anyone in the cattle industr y there is great pride that should be found in these words. He passed the passion of showing cattle to his children and grandchildren. Just a week before, Finn, Mark ’s son, was in the ring with a calf at the age of 20 months. This made Grandpa so proud. Len is sur vived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth, daughter Jay-Dean (Todd) Smyth, son Mark (Elisabeth), daughter Brandy, grandchildren; Angus Smyth, Jules Smyth, Owen Angus, Finnley Angus, and Corban Angus, siblings; Donna Framingham, Bill (Dianne) Angus, Barr y (Orla) Angus, Betty Carruthers, and the children we borrowed through the years; Maxine (Bouvier) Ferris, Barb Brazeau, and Corey Larocque. An open- door polic y, which still stands today, as Sheldon James and Melvin McCaleb can attest too. As well as nieces, nephews and ex tended family. A Funeral Ser vice was held on Monday, June 24, 2019 from the Roblin Community Centre in Roblin, Manitoba with Father Bastin and Jeremy Angus officiating. To send a note of condolence please visit NairnChyzWolkowski.ca We would like to thank Jeremy Angus and Father Bastin for officiating, and the firemen, ambulance attendants, RCMP, and friends that came to be with us. A special thanks to Dereck at NairnChyz-Wolkowski Funeral Ser vice, the firemen for helping to ser ve, my sister Viv and Dan Radford. As well as all the others who pitched in at and during the ser vice. Thank you for all the prayers, the Prayer Shawls, the food that just kept coming to our homes; the flowers, the kind words, the hugs and kisses. We would also like to thank each and ever yone of you who came to suppor t us at this time. You have touched our hear ts so deeply. The kindness and love you have shown has brought us through the hardest moments we have had to endure. We can’t thank you enough. May God Bless each and ever yone of you.
