C L A O FFIC E U P D ATE Well, the wor ld was cer tainly not prepared for the chaos S e pte mbe r 20 20 that has come with 2020. Ter ms such as vir tual meetings and social distancing and have become a par t of our ever yday language. However, good things can still come out of tough situations. The cattle industr y quick ly adapted this spr ing and found new ways to conduc t business and to sell bulls. As an association we have lear ned new ways to efficiently ser ve the membership and to per for m our daily administrative tasks. These will ser ve the association well long ter m. We would like to thank the membership for their patience this Spr ing as we closed the office for t wo months due to Covid-19 and had staff wor k ing from home. We also went through a significant staff change dur ing these months. There were delays in tur naround dur ing this time, but I am happy to repor t we are back to the nor mal schedule. We were excited to have N icole S cott join our registr y staff in Apr il this year. N icole comes from a Limousin background and has par ticipated in the junior program. She has been a great fit to our team and is a fr iendly voice providing registr y ser vice to our membership. The CLA B oard of Direc tors held a successful t wo - day vir tual summer board meeting to conduc t the business of the association. This proved to be a successful method to host this meeting and the board was able to make impor tant decisions that will protec t the membership and the integr it y of the Limousin herdbook . This fall the CLA will introduce a genot ype projec t in conjunc tion with Neogen Canada. Bulls and breeding females will qualify for GGP-uLD or GGP-100k testing at a reduced rate over the course of the nex t year. Please call the office or visit the website for details about this impor tant initiative. M any of our members have star ted using

TSU’s for their DNA samples. We recognize there has been a lear ning cur ve for all par ties involved in this process. With the help of Neogen Canada we have put together numerous resources to help with the collec tion, storage and submitting of TSU samples. These resources as well as a great video submitted by Dar ling Far ms can be found on the CLA website to help with the process. I f you are submitting a large batch of samples of 20 or more, we ask that you email the association an excel file with the animals tattoo and the samples barcode. The barcodes can be entered in the file using a barcode scanner or by manually t yping them. When you request DNA, CLA staff will advise you if the elec tronic file needs to be submitted. The CLA Annual G eneral M eeting will be held via Zoom on O c tober 5th at 5 pm MST. An email link will be made available to all members. We would like to thank J ason B rock the Canadian Shor thor n Association for trusting us with their registr y wor k over the past 3 years. D ecember of this year mar ks the end of the contrac t bet ween the t wo associations. Shayla Chappell will be moving home to S ask atchewan to wor k in house with the Shor thor n Association come Januar y 2021. We would like to congratulate our C JLA members for mak ing the most of an unconventional year by hosting the first ever C JLA Vir tual I mpac t Show. The vir tual show was well suppor ted with 41 juniors and 64 head. I would like to thank the C JLA B oard of Direc tor ’s, Amy M iller and Amanda M atthews for their hard wor k on this show. The C JLA board also hosted a vir tual AGM in August that was well attended by juniors across Canada. There were 8 juniors running for board positions this year. Congratulations to newly elec ted board members Bianca B yers, K ira Axley and Joe S cott and to re - elec ted members Cheyenne Por ter and M adi Lewis. The C JLA is a strong junior program building leaders that will ensure the success of the Limousin breed, we should all be ver y proud! Wishing you good luck this fall as Limousin influenced calves come off grass. We

Although 2020 has brought many difficulties, it has been a great year! The C JLA has continued to be represented well throughout the countr y through many vir tual shows and competitions including our own C JLA Vir tual I mpac t Show. Following the postponement of the 2020 C JLA I mpac t Show that was supposed to be held in Spencer ville Ontar io, the board decided to hold a Vir tual I mpac t Show. The competitions that were offered included, confor mation classes, mar keting, photography, ar t wor k , and graphic design. There were 41 juniors and 64 head that competed in the vir tual show. We would like to thank our judges, Jordan Buba, S am Cunningham, and Er ica Halliday for judging the cattle and K atie S onger for judging the other competitions. We would also like to thank Amy M iller and Amanda M atthews for all their wor k they did as our volunteers for the vir tual show. I t is greatly appreciated! On August 25, 2020 the C JLA held our Vir tual AGM held over Zoom as we were unable to have our meeting in person this year. We would like to thank the juniors who attended for being there and par ticipating!
