All Contents Page Drafts

Good Points • The Border is effective and matches the house style used in the cover and the masthead • Its very simplistic and doesn’t make you confused trying to keep track of what information is being given to you • The image is effective and unusual and something that you would not usually expect and follows the artistic unconventional style I have Bad Points • The faded image doesn’t really work and doesn’t really highlight the meaning • The border on the first one is too dark and make the tone of the page dark and deep

Good Points • The first draft defiantly has a nice house style to it avoiding the issue of the darkness in the first draft in the second slide • The second image is effective because of the use of the house style and inverting it, it adds a sense of variety throughout the magazine without breaking the house style • The image is better placed over the top of the border, in contrast to the double page spread Bad Points • In any of the drafts in blue you can see where the image has been cut out and that makes the image look tacky • You cant see the border round the CONTENTS in the white

I will be using the second draft on this slide because I feel that it is the best product out of all the drafts, why I chose this over the first draft is because the blue and white border and background do not add enough variety to the magazine, the white and blue of the second draft adds the variety that would be slightly lacking over wise, I tried to make the contents as simplistic as possible because so many contents pages are full of information and it can be very hard to understand it can also be very hard to find the place in the magazine of the article you are looking at. The image overlaps the border because I feel this is a direct contrast to the double page spread and makes it stand out more, the CONTENTS masthead is dead centre because it will be the first page you look at when you turn the page.

As you can see I have added greatly to the original image focusing more on getting the image across but also keeping the same feel and simplicity, being cautious not to add too much into the white space, I also redesigned the positioning because I felt that it didn’t flow properly, now your eyes just glance down and you can follow it. Also I decided to use the whole image without cutting the model out of it because I felt like I needed a solid image rather than more space. I kept with the same style inverting the house style used in the double page spread because it adds variety. I added sub titles and kickers because I feel that the magazine needed to feel more like a monthly release therefore you would get the featured articles and the repeat articles with every magazine; If I was to make any other editions of this magazine I would most likely just swap around the house style, colours and follow the whole general style just with a few swap arounds. The Contents works well ultimately because of its artistic style and strict loyalty to the ideologies of the magazine.
