Denotation The image is of movie star/celeb Benedict Cumberbatch, there is a direct mode of address, he is wearing a shirt with (what I presume) a waste coat, the image is in black and white. His hand is resting on his face. The masthead overlaps the image it is a serif font, I believe the font is times new roman. It’s solid red and it works with the rule of thirds. The house style is Red, white and has two different fonts; it has a variation with bold and not bold. The text is focusing on benedict’s career and the roles he has played The image The image is black and white, and this is defiantly stereotypically associated with actors and other artistic people, he has a sense of style that is classy and artistic which reflects the type of magazine. His direct mode of address as well as the pose suggests that he is interested by the reader it’s almost like he is looking at you on a front cover of a magazine; he is matching the readers pose. He also seems to be analysing the reader, which is very appropriate to the contents of the magazine. Masthead The mast head is very classy and has serifs in its font, the name has intertextuality to the newspaper the times this adds a more informative, intellectual tone to the name. The name is obviously a reference to the font time’s new roman. The masthead slotted above the image connotes that the name of the magazine is much more important than anything else, but it isn’t distracting from the image because it’s at the top. The rule of thirds is used. The House style The house style is red and white, the essential words are defiantly obvious and the house style is kept throughout the magazine. The text
The text is discussing the main story of the magazine, and talks about how the roles that benedict takes, “playing genius is very appropriate and defiantly works with the image as I mentioned earlier.
