Front cover drafts

Good Points • The masthead for all the images are effective and work well with the rest of the image • The masthead also is conventional • The images are all central and are very simple • There would be easy placing for selling lines Bad Points • Although they are all effective they don’t connote the right style and feel I am looking for in my magazine • The last cover has a nice “CLASH” feel but it also feels to cliché • The second and first cover use a effective image but I feel that they don’t fit with the mast head • The 3rd,4th and 5th don’t connote the theatrical image I am going for,and they don’t feel like they reflect me

Good Points • All the images are extremely effective and connote the right message I am looking for in my magazine. • The masthead for the first, second and third image; Are a theatrical message but not something that would be known by a big audience, thus giving it a niche feel. • The Blue background is effective on the forth, fifth and sixth images is effective and gives an alternative look that would not be expected. • The forth, fifth and sixth mastheads are simple effective and connote a theatrical theme. Bad Points • Although the first three images are effective they don’t give the right alternative feel • The last three images although have an alternative look would not be very attractive too a big audiance

Good Points • The second lot of images work well with the masthead style • The 1st and last images are effective because of the more alternative look to them, I like the idea of a blue background • The border manages to highlight the images when used and doesn’t distract that much Bad Points • The Main images don’t work so well in these drafts because they don’t fit so well with the aesthetics I was going for • “Corpse” doesn’t really work well with the magazines I am making, the title isn’t well known enough • The Blue filter does work well but as previously doesn’t match the title or the style of the mast head

Good Points • The first three image stand out to me as the image I would like to use in my final product due to its connotations and style • The last image makes the guitar look 3d and with the border it only amplifies the 3d • The background on the 1st and 3rd images contrast nicely with the black and white, it also emphasises the image without loosing the style Bad Points • The border can be distracting but only slightly • The Green background would have nothing to do with the article in it • The background or part of the magazine would need blue in it to reference the blue boy article I am writing for the double page spread. • I think that the black out title is best without the stave style

These are the two images I will be working on more over the course of the next few days, then I will select one out of the next set of drafts. The reasons I chose these two are: The masthead because of the effect it has, they are both theatrical terms that you could understand, proscenium is less common but because of the niche knowledge its appealing as well as the stave style relating to music and composing, the black fill in blackout is an obvious reference and style choice. The image is in my opinion most effective because of the distinct lack of eye contact, making you think that you are missing out on something and the kind of secretive aspect of it. The image has space for the masthead where the other ones lacked it. The first image includes the border and brings colour where it would be lacking.
