The end of the season is upon us again and the time has come to celebrate everything we have achieved throughout the year. The Manchester United Player of the Year Awards is an important part of the Club’s season and I am delighted to welcome you to this year’s ceremony. Many people often ask: what is the secret to a successful team? Well, there is no secret really, you set yourself a goal, you work hard and put in everything you have to reach that target. However, another important factor is the recognition and celebration of everything you achieve, no matter how big or small, which brings us back to today’s special event. Tonight’s festivities will highlight some of those individuals who have stood out this season and demonstrated the hard work and dedication I mentioned. These are the people who help make this club what it is today. The 2012/13 season has been terrific. We have seen some fantastic football from not only the first team but also the Under 21s and Under 18s. To have won a 20th League title is a tremendous achievement. Everyone at the Club has had a hand in assisting in this accomplishment, from the players and staff, right through to the supporters. We are the only Premier League club to have achieved this accolade and we are all very proud of this milestone. I hope you have an enjoyable evening.

We have some fantastic money-can’t-buy items up for grabs and every penny raised allows us to deliver programmes and help young people who need it most. The charity auction tonight will raise vital funds to continue the work of the Manchester United Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of young people. As the charity arm of the Club, the Foundation combines passion for football with education to inspire young people to build a better life for themselves. The Foundation works in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Greater Manchester to deliver football coaching, skills training, personal development and life-changing experiences. Through football we encourage and mentor young people, addressing and aiding with social cohesion, personal development and wellbeing for a brighter future. We currently have eight community hubs across the North West delivering learning and development programmes to those who need it most.
