THURSDAY 7 TH MARCH 2013 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

Registered charity No. 1118310

In partnership with Aon and Taylor Lynn Corporation Ltd.

WELCOME Aon is very proud to be partnering with Manchester United and the Manchester United Foundation in support of this great event. For years, the Manchester United Foundation has been educating, motivating and inspiring future generations to build better communities for all, and Dancing with United takes the level of inspiration to an entirely new and entertaining level in support of a great endeavour. Greg Case, Aon President & Chief Executive Officer

Thank you for attending this evening and for supporting the Manchester United Foundation at what promises to be an unforgettable event. You may have been surprised to see Manchester United associated with a dance event, but at the Foundation we endeavour to come up with creative and innovative ways of raising revenue to support our work in some of the most socially deprived areas across Greater Manchester. The celebrities and dancers, including our very own Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Quinton Fortune, have been dedicated to presenting a spectacular occasion and the preparation and support from all involved has been amazing, a real team effort. Sometimes, in such surroundings, it is hard to believe that many children and families are living below the poverty line in our local community but events like this, and your support, enable the Foundation to work with these disadvantaged and underprivileged young people to educate, motivate and inspire them to build better opportunities and positive futures. John Shiels, CEO of MU Foundation

All of us have a sense of dread when Michael Edelson – Club director and Foundation trustee – walks up to you and asks for a word. It always involves a favour. So imagine the thoughts going through my head when he starts talking about a dancing competition and one of the judges being Gary Neville! I was dreading it; was he going to ask me to dance? Was I going to be judged by Nev? To my great relief, he was asking me to write this introduction and I was happy to do that. The Foundation works in some of the most deprived areas around Manchester and, through the Club’s partnership with UNICEF, around the world. The money raised tonight will help us use the power of the Manchester United name to help many more young people around our magnificent stadium at Old Trafford to find a purpose in life and encourage them to use their talents. Thanks to everyone involved in putting on this unique event. Enjoy the evening and may the best couple win. Nemanja Vidic

Your hosts for the evening: Angus Deayton Avid Red, Angus Deayton has enjoyed a long career in television and show business as an acclaimed actor, writer, presenter, comedian and broadcaster. He is notably famed for his hosting role on Have I Got News For You and is currently starring in the hit BBC sitcom Pramface.

Ulrika Jonsson She first graced our screens as a weather girl 24 years ago, and since Swedish-born Ulrika has enjoyed a rich and varied career as an actress, television presenter, journalist and novelist. Her ability to present shows as diverse as Gladiators through to the Eurovision Song Contest will tonight make United fan Ulrika our perfect host.

Roving reporter: Sally Lindsay Actress, comedienne, writer and Loose Woman, Sally Lindsay is best known for her role as Coronation Street’s Shelley Unwin although she has recently enjoyed success as the co-creator of ITV hit drama Scott and Bailey and star of Sky1 comedy Mount Pleasant.

The judging panel: Nicky Butt After 12 illustrious years with Manchester United, Nicky returned to the Club in a coaching role in 2012. He is a great supporter of the Foundation and even led the annual trek in October along Hadrian’s Wall to raise vital funds for Foundation projects. This evening he will be reunited with fellow ex-Red Gary and the pair are sure to enjoy passing comment on their former team mates’ performances.

Gary Neville After almost 20 years of top-flight football with Manchester United, Gary called time on his playing career and has since forged a reputation as a straight-talking football pundit - an attribute we are sure to witness this evening. Former team-mate and dancer Peter Schmeichel believes Gary may even assume the role of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Bruno Tonioli and deliver his opinions with ‘glitz, glamour and a flourish!’

Arlene Phillips CBE Arlene has enjoyed a glittering career in the world of dance, theatre and television. For many years she was revered as the choreographer of numerous West End and Broadway musicals, films and television shows, but Arlene has since achieved mainstream fame as a judge on programmes such as ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, the experience from which will no doubt help tonight.

Louie Spence Fresh from the judging panel of last year’s Dancing on Ice, Louie is sure to bring fun and flamboyancy to the evening. As a choreographer and artistic director of Pineapple Dance Studios he will also add his dance expertise into the mix.

Taking to the dance floor:

Jacquie Beltrao

Darren Bennett

Anna-Jane Casey

Jacquie has enjoyed a long career with Sky News as a sports presenter and reporter. As a former gymnast she was the British Rhythmic gymnastics champion and represented Great Britain at the 1984 L.A. Olympics so hopes to spring-board to the top of the table tonight.

Professional dancer Darren specialises in Latin dance and took part in Strictly Come Dancing from 2004-2009. He will be performing a show dance this evening with professional partner and wife, Lilia Kopylova.

Partnering Quinton Fortune for the evening, Anna-Jane is a singer, dancer and actress best known for her work in musical theatre. She is currently starring in Monty Python’s Spamalot at the London Playhouse.

Antony Cotton

Andrew Cuerden

Camilla Dallerup

A committed supporter of Manchester United and the Foundation, Antony is most famed for his role as Sean Tully in the nation’s favourite soap, Coronation Street. In his own words Antony hopes to ‘foxtrot his way to become the first Dancing with United champion!’

Andrew is a Latin dancer and teacher who was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in South Africa. He moved to England in 1996 to further his dance career and went on to appear in the third series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Professional dancer Camilla is returning to the dance floor after taking part in Strictly Come Dancing for five series, going out with a bang following her 2008 win. Camilla will be partnering fellow Dane, Peter Schmeichel.

Quinton Fortune

Shobna Gulati

Alejandro Hernandez

The former Manchester United and South Africa international is keen to prove he’s as versatile off the pitch as he was on it. In between studying for his coaching badges and establishing himself as a football pundit, Quinton has shown great dedication in his rehearsals with dance partner Anna-Jane Casey.

Famed for her role as Sunita Alahan in Coronation Street, Shobna is a dedicated Red and supporter of the Manchester United Foundation. She has a background in Indian dance and hopes this experience will help her tonight.

Spanish dancer and choreographer Alejandro specialises in Latin dance. He is an avid football fan and even trained as a footballer before choosing to pursue his dance career so is delighted to be involved in this evening’s event.

James Jordan

Ola Jordan

Lilia Kopylova

James Jordan is a ballroom dancer and choreographer who has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing since 2004. His professional partner is wife, Ola, with whom he will be performing a show dance this evening.

Polish-born Ola joined Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer in 2004 and emerged victorious in 2007. She will be showcasing her talents alongside husband James this evening.

Russian-born Lilia is a professional dancer who took part in Strictly Come Dancing from 2004-2009. She holds the record with her 2005 partner, Darren Gough, for winning the most Strictly titles – one series and two Christmas specials. Can she reclaim her crown tonight?

Jennie McAlpine

Ryan McShane

Fabrice Muamba

Actress Jennie McAlpine has played Fiz Stape in Coronation Street since 2001. Her character has been through a lot on the cobbles but she is hoping Dancing with United will be a less bumpy ride!

Northern-Irish Ryan has been dancing since he was a small boy and has since performed in competitions worldwide. He is a huge Manchester United fan so will be sure to enjoy dancing alongside some of the Club’s greats this evening.

An England U21 International and Bolton Wanderers player, Fabrice’s promising career was tragically cut short when he suffered a cardiac arrest in an FA Cup match last March. He has since inspired the nation with his positive attitude and, after a stint on the 2012 Strictly Christmas Special and taking part in ITV’s coverage of the African Nations Cup, Fabrice is ready to take to the dance floor once again.

Lisa Riley

Peter Schmeichel

Actress, presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star, Lisa Riley wowed the judges and the audience as she salsa’d her way into the 2012 semi-finals. During the recent Strictly tour Lisa took home the glitter ball trophy in her hometown of Manchester; can we expect a repeat performance tonight?

The Great Dane is returning to the dance floor and to Old Trafford but this time he is hoping his fancy footwork, as opposed to his goalkeeping skills, will save him from defeat. Following his stint on Strictly in 2006 Peter insists he is at no advantage but hopes that with Danish partner Camilla Dallerup he will be in safe hands.

CHARITY INFORMATION At the Manchester United Foundation we use the passion for Manchester United to educate, motivate and inspire young people, providing opportunities to change their lives for the better. We deliver projects in the following areas which will benefit from your support of tonight’s event:

Football We strive to provide football opportunities for school children and young people with physical or mental disabilities.

Community Cohesion Our Street Reds programme delivers football and alternative activities that act as a mechanism for community cohesion in some of Greater Manchester’s most deprived areas.

Health Using football, and other sports, we have developed a range of programmes that improve the health and wellbeing of local communities.
