MIMI ADZAPE-ORUBIBI //
I am an expert in taxation. There is hardly anything in taxation I don’t know. This is because I regularly update my knowledge on current issues. Growing up Growing up was fun because I was the only girl among two boys. As the last child, I was pampered and loved. The fond memories of those formative years are still fresh on my mind. I am grateful to God that I had a cherished childhood. Challenges I try as much as possible to be a goal getter. It becomes very challenging when I am unable to achieve a certain goal within a particular time, especially when it involves other people. Lessons of life In everything, patience is very important. This has always been my lesson in life. Childhood aspirations I have always desired to be successful, especially because of my mum. I wanted to make it large so that I can give her the best a mother should enjoy from her child. My aspiration was to be a great leader. Childhood memories I miss I really miss that clapping game: E-One, One-One, Burtar etc. Playing with friends and my brothers is indeed memorable. Passion for tax It started when I was employed in the FIRS in January, 2001. I never aspired to be a tax assessment officer. But in everything I do, I put all my best. I have been in this profession since 2001 and it has been fulfilling. How I met my husband My husband and I were colleagues in the FIRS. One faithful day, we met at a course though he was my senior. We exchanged pleasantries and we got talking. The rest is what has come to be Mr. & Mrs. Orubibi. Most cherished attribute of him My husband is a perfect gentleman. He is very kind and cannot even hurt a fly. Most cherished gift My most cherished gift was a chaplet (rosary beads). My husband bought it for me when we were dating, knowing how much I believe in the Catholic faith. Top 5 on my wish list First, that I work according to God’s design for me; that I don’t mislead people through my actions, especially those who look up to me; that my children grow up in the fear of the Lord and be successful in life; that I help all those whom I may meet on this journey of life to be better people. And that I succeed in all my undertakings. SENSE OF HEARING GONE Please Dr, I need your help regarding my right ear, which loss sense of hearing since I was young. May I know how and what I can do to gain back full sense of hearing in my right ear? I was never told the cause by my late parents. I am 20 years now and its affecting me. Please help. Genesis Daniel from Taraba State
T
he first step is to know the cause of the hearing loss and what the extent of the hearing impairment is. Possible causes include childhood ear disease or systemic diseases that can affect the nervous system. The causes exposure to loud noise, head trauma, autoimmune disorders of the inner ear, viral diseases, and Miniere’s disease. Others include malformations of the ear, perforated ear drum, infection in the ear canal,
osteosclerosis and impacted earwax. The last is easily preventable and also easy to treat by regular ear cleaning and if there is ear wax to see the ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) department for ear washing and cleaning. Treatment of hearing challenges depend on the cause. Also ear aids are available for appropriate cases. Since you are in Taraba State you may need to go to Specialist Hospital Jalingo, specifically the department of ENT
DO I REMOVE MY WOMB? I am forty-six-year-old and I did pap smear test, the first hospital said I needed to remove my womb. The second hospital said there is something that could be done. I am confused. Please what do I do? Bidemi, Lagos
F
rom the question I guess you have completed your family size. Well, either of the treatment is correct. The second option are conservative surgical methods. These include cryotherapy and cold knife biopsy which could be done colposcopically. This does not involve major gynaecologically surgery but will require regular
follow up to avoid risk of cervical cancer. The first option of removal of the uterus or Total Abdominal Hysterectomy is also a good option because it eliminates the problem of continuous follow up and also eliminate risk of other cancers associated with the uterus. The final decision is yours but any of the options is okay.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS? I am seventeen-year-old virgin, I have itching and odorous discharge, triple action cream was prescribed. Can this cause permanent infertility?
T
he triple action cream is not adequate for odorous discharge in a woman of reproductive age not to talk of a virgin. The reality is one acute episode of untreated or poorly treated PID poses a twelve percent risk of tubal damage while two episodes can pose up to twenty-five percent chance of tubal damage. I will suggest you see a gynaecologist as soon as possible.
Please, we encourge all who send questions or contributions to include at least their first name and town or city. Readers are also advised to copy the Tambari email address above while writing in. Thank you - Editor TAMBARI SUNDAY, AU G U S T 14, 2016

Calabash decor as an Art
by HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU
T
he calabash is a product of the gourd plant. It is the dried hollow shell of the gourd. To get the calabash, the gourd fruit is usually allowed time to mature before it is plucked and the content, which is mostly seeds, removed. It is placed in the sun to dry. With time, the green colour fades as it becomes hard. It is ready for use at this point. The Yoruba call it igba, the Igbo call it ugbe while the Hausa call it kwarya. The calabash comes in different shapes and sizes, depending on how it is decorated. It is also used as an accessory for house decoration. Placing it in rooms or shelves gives a creative and artistry look to the house. It is also a great way to incorporate culture into a home decor. With additional information from the internet

red, orange or green. Others need a calming shade like botanical green or sea foam blue to perform at their best. Give yourself a view: Position the desk where you can stare at something interesting instead of a blank wall; perhaps, a window with a view of the garden or a photo in a frame of your family. Good lighting: Make sure your home office has more than enough light to cut your eyes the strain and headaches, and put a small lamp on the desk. It is also a good idea to have some natural light flowing into the room. Expand your storage space: Use cabinets and shelves to reduce clutter. Also, organise your books and documents because clutter can be a big distraction. With additional information from the internet
