It is also a kind of bag that you don’t have to hang on the shoulder; instead you carry it with style and charisma as its presence gives you an edge over others. So don’t think twice before you give yourself a statement look as you step out in style with that statement handbag.

// FADIMATU ABDUL-AZIZ YARI
Life is all about patience – Fadimatu Abdul-azizYari interview by Amina Alhassan & Mulikatu Mukaila
F
adimatuAbdul-aziz Yari, who was born in 1970, into the family of Alhaji Salisu Abdullahi in Talatan Marafa, hails from Zamfara State. The first child of her mother, among nine younger siblings, spoke to Tambari on her aspirations as a child, motherhood experience, challenges as a governor’s wife and other interesting issues.
Growing up I was brought up properly by my parents to be a very obedient child. I grew up to embrace the word, respect, which is still a part of me. While growing up, I had to go and live with my grandmother, whose name was Amina. I was her favourite grandchild, so I got all the love and attention from her. She also brought me up to learn more about my religion. At a very tender age, I was enrolled into an Islamic school. At that time, parents believed that western education was a waste to the girl-child; hence they used to hide us inside the house whenever government representatives came to take girls to be enrolled in schools. As a result of that, I only had the opportunity to acquire the Islamic knowledge. But after my grandmother passed away, I was taken back to my parents in Jos. I was already too big to start from the cradle, so I just decided to continue with Islamic studies. I also recall how we used to go to the stream to swim with my peers. It is one aspect of my childhood days that I will never forget. These days, you hardly come across such fun, and even if you do, you wouldn’t want any of your children to go to the river to swim because it is no longer safe. Aspirations as a child As a child I had always admired the medical profession. If I had the opportunity of going to school, I would have become a medical doctor. In Nigeria, especially in the North where I come from, we don’t have enough female doctors. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have become a medical doctor. Motherhood experience Motherhood is a thing of joy. It is something that every woman craves for. And I thank God for giving me wonderful children. My first experience as a mother came with ease, I must say. I didn’t have any complication during childbirth, and I really thank God for that. The only rough time I had was during the early stage of pregnancy, which is common among women. At the early stage she is prone to fall sick, but once the pregnancy is four months old or thereabouts, the body becomes strong again. I have eight of them, and one is already married. Seeing them grow every day is a thing of joy to me. Assisting women and children in Zamfara State Normally, I make it a point of duty to visit motherless babies’ homes to assist them in any way I can. Recently, I organised an Islamic women forum among the 14 local government areas in the state, through which I supported women and children. I also intend to come up with other ways I can support women in the state. This is TAMBARI SUNDAY, J U LY 10, 2016
FADIMATU ABDUL-AZIZ YARI // because in every society, women play an important role. We cannot afford to overlook the importance of women in the society.
has been how to assist people with genuine problems.
How I met my husband We met many years ago. His family house wasn’t far from mine, so we are not strangers to each other. But on that faithful day, he was on his way to a Quranic school while I was returning from the stream. He approached me, and after thateverything went smoothly because both families were also close to each other. After all the arrangements and visitations from his family, we got married.
Role model Baba Yari, as myy husband’s father wass fondly called, is my role model. He wass a very gentleman.. He carried everyonee along, no matter one’s ne’s status in life. He wass like a father to mee because he accepted d me like his own daughter. aughter. May his gentlee soul rest in peace. He was a district head,, and because of that, at, everyone looked up p to him. He was honest onest in all his doingss and never feared anyone, except Allah. I pray and hope to live the rest of my lifee like Baba Yari.
What I cherish most about him He is kind-hearted, very religious and patient. He cares for everybody around him. Most special gift from him My most cherished gift from him is his love and support for everything I do. And I am most grateful to him. My children are another most cherished gift from him. I see every part of him in my children as they grow every day. I thank God for giving me such wonderful children. Best mode of relaxation Most times, after a hectic day, we all gather at home and talk about how everybody’s day went. We relax in the living room and watch movies, or come up with a conversation. It is always fun when the whole family gathers, especially when the father of the house is part of the conversation. Favourite holiday spots I prefer Dubai because you will have variety of places to shop. I also love the weather there because it is just like ours here. America is also a lovely place to be. I love the people there. But in all, there is no place like home. I love Zamfara State where I come from. My definition I love to dress modestly and be identified with Islam. I can say I love atampa a lot because it is simple. I love African attires because they bring out the beauty of a woman. Fashion accessories I always have on I love my bangles, rings, necklaces and bags. Challenges as a governor’s wife In every situation you find yourself in life, there must be challenges. You might have the intention to assist someone whenever the person approaches you for help, but you don’t know if the person is honest about his plight or not. I make sure I follow up on issues that are brought before me for assistance. So the biggest challenge TAMBARI SUNDAY, J U LY 10, 2016

You will need an antihistamine to relieve the itching while you take steps to identify the cause. You can see your family physician.
ECTOPIC PREGNANCY THEN MISCARIAGE: WHAT NEXT? I am forty-two years old and once had an ectopic pregnancy after which I had a miscarriage since then I have not gotten pregnant again. Advise me. Amina How long have you been married? But if you are forty two with history of ectopic and miscarriage, if there is no financial challenge, the best option is IVF. But in case of financial challenges, since you were pregnant after the ectopic, the possibility of the second tube being patent is high. You may need to do HSG to confirm this. If it is patent, and provided your spouse’s sperm count is normal, you can be stimulated for Timed Intercourse. I will encourage you to see a gynaecologist as soon as possible because of your age
First step is prophylactic antibiotics to prevent infection. Also the use of steroid injection like dexamethasone to improve foetal lung maturity is also important. Provided there is proper monitoring of the maternal vital signs and close monitoring to notice an infection and thereby prevent chorioamionitis, one could allow for more time to ensure a good chance of survival Generally speaking, in our own environment even most tertiary hospitals the chances of survival at twenty-seven weeks is very low. We must remember that till now despite modern advances in neonatal management we still regard termination pregnancy before twentyeight weeks as miscarriage. Of course there are few cases of twenty-six and twenty-seven ‘weekers’ that still makes it in Nigeria.

urbar, in northern Nigeria, also known as Hawan Sallah, is a colourful event that usually takes place immediately after the Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha (Sallah celebration). This celebration attracts lots of guests and tourists from far and near. The festival often begins with prayers in each town, with a dazzling and colourful procession of the emir and his entourage.
During the event, there is usually a spectacular show of horsemanship and regional tradition. The emir and his followers appear in colourful regalia, kicking off the event from the palace to the durbar ground. Each horse rider, bedecked in wonderful, traditional costume and brandishing a sword, gallops towards the emir, stopping just in time to pay allegiance to the ruler who enters the parade ground shielded from the sun by a

massive twirling parasol. The horse display is the main highlight of the day, but to add some flavour to the festive atmosphere, local music and dance-steps are displayed and foods given to guests. Some of the most popular durbar festivals are held in cities like Katsina, Kano, Zaria and Bida. With additional information from the internet

lawe Couture is one of the newest brand that presented at the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 at the Eko Hotel & Suites with a very good start. The women’s wear brand made an impressive AFWN debut showing a chic mix of sequin, batik, prints and more for her feminine, sultry and almost ‘avant garde-ish’ looks from the collection. The designer had intricate details on prints, not presenting the bland or predictable styles some showed with prints, she had a thought process for the collection which was revealed in the transition and styling of the collection. For a newcomer, she made a pretty good attempt but the ‘Couture’ (in her brand name) is reaching; ‘Elawe’ works just perfect for the brand that’s one to watch out for. TAMBARI SUNDAY, J U LY 10, 2016
