on role of youth in nation building, Muduru said ICT has played a vital role in the rise of the young people to prominence at global scale saying that many in the developed nations leverage its potentials to mobilize, collaborate and have a strong voice in response to issues of great importance and social concerns. According to him, as far as the youth is concerned, access to information and communication technologies should mean better access to capital, markets, entrepreneurship, enhanced literacy, access to quality contents, skills and training necessary
to pursue a reliable career, meaningful participation in politics and policy making, and ultimately increased productivity. Muduru told YOUTHVILLE that determination and commitment are his watch words as his number three position of Speaker has not pulled him down from pursuit of education saying that despite its challenging nature I have already enrolled at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) for Masters in International Relations. He urged youths to be steadfast and set goals for themselves for they are achievable with zeal, commitment and determination.

BUSINESS IS MY PASSION — ITHRA Ithra Muze is the brain behind POSHTHRA HAIR. The 24-year old graduate of French Language and Economics spoke to YOUTHVILLE on the various challenges she has faced starting a business and creating jobs. Text by Eseohe Ebhota @sleek_diva88
H
ow long have you been in the hair business? It’s been approximately nine years since I started. The motivation stems from my love for fashion and seeing that the head of a woman is her crown and needs to be adorned because a beautiful face which includes the hair is the first impression to onlookers. What was your start-up capital? I started with about N70,000 and I kept growing to where I am today.
brand”. Therefore I try to wear my hair brand and that speaks for me because onlookers see a person’s face and appreciate it before the entire body. How many persons have you employed? Because I have to move around and do other things, I have two other hair lounge assistants to run the shop. Then I have distributors in most states in Nigeria and one in South Africa who help with the deliveries to places where there are no distributors.
How have you coped with challenges associated with starting a business? That’s true. I’ve had so many challenges. Some of which include going a long way to satisfy the needs of different customers and most times, displeasing myself and running into loss because a customer is always right. This is very challenging but consistency keeps me going and hopeful towards a better and long lasting customer relationship.
What support have you gotten from people around you? My family has been very encouraging: Their prayers and thoughtful words keep me climbing the ladder. My mum says money is used to buy money so instead of backing out, I always reinvest and keep soaring. My dad tells me that “advice is more expensive than capital” hence his advice keeps me, and the continued patronage of my customers because without them, there is no brand.
What are your unique selling points? My marketing strategy is simple: “I am my own
Are there risks in this business? Sourcing for the best of variety weaves is a big
risk I need to take to keep my customers and myself happy. Traveling frequently is also another risk you know. But to me one of the biggest risk is going out of my way and satisfying various customers from all works of life with different approach to life and situations because “a customer is always right” but as they say, No risk no business though. About being able to cope, I put everything in prayers and learn to manage the situations very well depending on how serious they are. Do you see the government working hard to reduce unemployment? Government.....I think that since capital helps a business dream come into reality, the government could help in alleviating unemployment by offering capital/loans to theses ones because it will be helpful to them in setting up their business. What advice do you have for youth who prefer white collar jobs to being self-employed? They should do what pleases them and be comfortable in it. If white collar job suits you, fine and if it’s business be ready too.

he President of the Northern Youth Council (NYC), Comrade Murtala Muhammad has urged government at all levels to create more plans for youth in agriculture, mining and the SMEs. In a recent interview with YOUTHVILLE, Muhammad said the leaders across board should declare an emergency on unemployment in the north. “Let them group unemployed into three categories: the educated, the skilled ones and those who have none. After identifying them, they should ensure each local government council come up with their employment plans which should centre on agriculture, mining and SMEs,” he said. On his roles, Muhammad said it has given him the opportunity to establish good relationship with youth organisations in other part of Nigeria and beyond including the Odua Youth Congress, the Ijaw Youth Council and the youth arm of Ohaneze Indigbo.

he P-Square musician duo may have it rough performing as a brand again. Last weekend, one of them, Peter Okoye did a solo performance in Abuja. The rumour on the spilt of the P-Square brand comprising Paul and Peter, and managed by their elder brother Jude Okoye kept resurrecting. Peter took to the stage performing under the name ‘Mr P’ in Abuja as YOUTHVILLE learnt he is set to perform solo again in Dubai next month. The 34 -year old song star had previously released his first solo single called ‘Look Into My Eyes’. His fans seem to be in support of the spilt as they encouraged him to move
on. One of them, Mulikat on his Facebook wall, “Peter you will make it more than the rest by God’s grace.” She went on to compare him with the Jackson Five. “Check Jackson5, after the breakup, only Michael made it better than the rest”. Peter late in 2015 did his “Dance with Peter” reality show alone. On his Twitter account, he regularly posts about his new management, “For bookings and enquiries, please contact my new management,” a tweet read. Meanwhile his dread wearing brother Paul has not said anything even as our reporter learnt a former Governor of Anambra state is intervening in the issue to have them go past their differences.
