CORK – GOOD LOOKING AND NATURAL Like all the natural materials, cork has its own unique pattern that varies from one sheet to the next. The pattern is created by many cracks and veins and can count up to 30 tones. This makes cork a popular decorative material. Besides being just plain good looking, cork possesses great working qualities. Its honeycomb structure quickly restores it after any physical impact making cork virtually timeless. It is a scientific fact that in 100 years cork wears off by mere 5%. Natural cork is sufficiently resistant to chemical influences; therefore, neither

ALL ABOUT HOME

acetic acid nor chlorine can damage cork covering or modify its qualities. It is also resistant to excessive humidity, ultraviolet rays, mold, and fungi. Even rodents avoid cork. It is one of the most long-lasting and practical covering materials. Cork, like all the natural materials, helps create positive microclimate where not only healthy people but also those suffering from allergic reactions and respiratory problems can feel good. The explanation is that cork is a natural antiseptic and that it does not draw dust and does not absorb smells, including even cigarette smoke. This makes it possible4 and even desirable to use it not only in regular rooms but in the rooms with complicated conditions as well – for example, in the kitchen.

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

Cork is an excellent absorber of noise - no wonder it’s being used as a covering in recording studios. It also provides a high level of thermal insulation. It is common knowledge among the specialists that the air temperature in rooms with cork-covered walls is about six degrees above average in winter and the same amount lower, in summer. Cork is an excellent decorative material for any style rooms because it looks great in combination with other materials. It is also simple to install. Of course, this wonderful material does not come cheap but it is a great investment that will pay off in the long run in both financial and labour aspects because it keeps its looks and functionality for many years.

Net metering and MicroFit Solar panel electricity systems, also known as solar photovoltaics (PV), capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells prefer direct sunlight to work although they can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The cells convert sunlight into electricity that can be used to run household appliances and for lighting. THE BENEFITS OF SOLAR ELECTRICITY

• Sell electricity back to the grid: if your system is producing more electricity than you need, or can’t use, you can sell the surplus back to the grid. Customers have a number of options to choose from for selling electricity to the grid depending on the size of their facility.

• Cut your electricity bills: sunlight is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your electricity costs will be reduced. • Get paid for the electricity you generate: the government’s Feed-In Tariffs pay you for the electricity you generate.

Net metering In 2005, Ontario government introduced net metering regulation that allows homeowners to send electricity generated from renewable sources, such as solar energy, to the province’s grid for a credit towards their hydro costs. The more electricity your system produces the more savings you receive! With net metering your hydro bill will show the difference between the amounts of energy your solar PV system has exported and the amount of energy your household consumed. All of the regulated charges such as delivery charge, regulatory charge, and debt-retirement charge apply only to your net consumption. Ontario’s net metering regulation allows you to send electricity generated from renewable sources to the electrical grid for a credit towards your energy costs. What is in it for you? Your utility will subtract the value of electricity you supply to the grid from the value of what you take from the grid. What you’ll see on your bill is the “net” difference between those two amounts. Net metering means you no longer need to purchase expensive batteries or a backup generator – or factor those costs into the price of installing a renewable energy generation system

MicroFIT The microFIT Program was launched in 2009 as part of the Ontario government’s efforts to increase the scope of renewable energy in the province. The program provides homeowners and other eligible participants with the opportunity to develop a small or “micro” renewable electricity generation project (10 kilowatts (kW) or less in size) on their property. The MicroFIT Program is a streamlined program for small renewable energy projects under the umbrella of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program. The FIT Program is designed for projects generating over 10 kW of electricity. What is in it for you? Under the microFIT Program, you will be paid a guaranteed fixed price over a 20-year term for all the electricity you produce and deliver to the province’s electricity grid. Get paid for the power you produce, at prices that are designed to cover the costs of a typical project and allow you to earn a reasonable rate of return on your investment over the term of the contract. It is a matter of personal preference when deciding which program is more suitable for you and your household, but whatever incentive you choose, you are contributing to a healthier environment by generating electricity from renewable sources and are part of the largest climate change initiative in North America.

Women’s advice on decorating is usually more valuable because their imagination helps them to see the entire picture. 3. Furniture At last, the two counterparts got down to selecting furniture for the new decor. He will bring in his favourite rocking chair that he cannot even think of parting with while she will buy a simple white sofa that has been her dream for years. The solution of such a conflict lies in a modern floor lamp matching the colour of the sofa placed next to the lazy boy, and a cozy multicoloured throw on the sofa that matches the style of the old rocker. Such decorative cooperation has some interesting points. 4. Accessories

Women tend to overdo it in this department. Their passion for flounces, bows, and figurines can be kept in check only by the practical male attitude. “Where are you going to place it?”, “Do we really need three more coloured cushions for the sofa?” or “But you have bought exactly the same figurine last month!” will do the trick. Therefore, take your man accessory shopping – he will cool you off and offer valuable albeit ironic advice. 5. In the Store Have you seen a married couple in a mall shopping for groceries? She stands by one store because she feels the prices are better there, while he insists on another one because the quality of the goods in it is better. Eventually they buy from the third merchant who offers both a suitable price and good quality. This pattern is usually repeated in furniture stores, building supply stores, wall covering stores, etc. Shopping together for the new look of your home is a great idea because vivid female imagination comes up with interesting ideas which the male common sense uses to achieve a sensible solution.

NOBLE DÉCOR: STONE&CERAMICS

How important are natural stones for the interior design of your house? Granite countertops, marble tiles, onyx backsplashes – they are easy to fall in love with and hard to substitute with anything else! It has been fairly said, “Once you go with stone, any other material will seem inferior.”

Cold Passion of Stone

CIOT knows exactly what it means to be passionate about natural stones! The company is one of the leading importers and retailers of marble, granite, onyx and quartz tiles and slabs, on the Canadian market. Kristina Panzera, CIOT’s marketing manager, talks about the history of her family business with respect and admiration, “My grandfather, Giovanni Batista Ciot, came to Canada from Italy, and started working as an installer of ceramic tiles and terrazzo. In 1950, he decided to start his own business – a small terrazzo shop, which is now the headquarters of an established company, working with the best suppliers from all over the world!” Doing what he knew best, Ciot with his sonin-law, Joe Panzera, soon transformed the business into one of the first importers of European marble and ceramics in Canada! For over 60 years, CIOT’s marble and granite, onyx and quartz, agate and amethyst, tiles and unique mosaic patterns have been the number one choice for home improvement and commercial renovation projects in Canada and the US!

What does your product line look like? We specialize mostly on marble and granite slabs, and ceramic tiles. These products are always in demand: rarely, a kitchen or bathroom renovation goes without them!

Kristina, what is the secret of your company’s success? Part of it, I think, is that we are family owned. We are truly interested in our products and dedicated to them. For us, it is a passion before it is a business! Reputation is also important. CIOT is known as the company with a strict and fair pricing policy: we always try to provide the best products in their price range. We will not sell a B-grade stone as a premium product, we will price it accordingly. Our customers greatly appreciate this approach!

10

ALL ABOUT HOME

However, we also carry a wide selection of onyx and quartz products, glass tiles, and various types of mosaics. These products are trendy, luxurious and unique; a lot of people come specifically for them, and we are happy to satisfy their taste.

United as a family, strong as a business!

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

Our showrooms in Quebec also present a variety of vanities and bathroom accessories from well-known Canadian and Italian brands.

www.aahtoronto.com

Where are your stones and ceramics imported from? All over the world! We are willing to go an extra mile in search for the best products in each category. For granite, we go to Brazil, for marble – to Italy or China, depending on the type; onyx is mostly imported from Afghanistan, and ceramic tiles – primarily from Italy.

Does it mean that CIOT only carries exclusive, hi-end products? Not at all! Like I said, we try to find the best products for each price category. We understand that often people want to have that luxurious look of marble and granite, but they simply do not have the budget for that. For renovations in laundry rooms or basements, a lot of people also prefer less expensive materials. So, we offer plenty of affordable options for a tight budget.

What kind of products do CIOT’s Russian-speaking customers usually prefer? Well, [smiling] certainly everything that looks finished and sophisticated! They rarely choose unpolished, natural-looking materials. One of our special lines of bathroom accessories, embellished with Swarovski crystals, is especially popular among Russian-speaking customers! Of course, this is just a general observation. At CIOT, we always believe in individual approach. Today, natural stones and ceramics in interior design are not only a sign of good taste and prestige; they are an inseparable part of our everyday life. CIOT strongly believes that despite their seemingly cold appearance, its products create special atmosphere, coziness and comfort at any living or recreational space!

Come to one of CIOT’s showrooms and discover the cold passion of stone for yourself! FOR ADVERTISEMENTS CALL (416) 477-6107

A DOOR THAT STANDS OUT insert of any pattern, stained glass, woodcarving, or any other decorative embellishment. From baroque to hi-tech, from streamline to whimsical – nothing is impossible!

In the world of environmental problems, it is always great news to learn that someone has come up with a process or material that helps save the environment rather than abusing it, especially if such a process or material has other excellent characteristic.

widely use this “new wood” to offer their customers the best, most durable and longlasting soilutions. One of these companies exists right here, in Toronto. This company is MD Doors that produces beautiful high quality doors and thermo windows.

A small UK company Accsys Technologies has developed a smart technique, sold under the trade name Accoya®, that toughens softwood, enabling it to be used as a hardwood. Hardwood takes much longer to grow, is more expensive, and much rarer than the soft varieties. Therefore, Accoya® not only offers a cheaper alternative to an expensive commodity but also gives a break to the environment.

If you are looking for a new entrance door for your residence and dream to have a wood door of the highest quality, look at this company’s products before making your final decision. Their doors combine advanced technology with unsurpassed aesthetic attractiveness.

Accoya® is a treated wood designed for outdoor exposure. The process uses acetylization - a chemical reaction that bonds together the hydroxyl group of molecules in the wood and replaces them with an acetyl group of molecules. (The hydroxyl group is what microorganisms feed on, a cause of rot and decay. It is also what causes wood to shrink and swell.) Accoya® is ideal for windows, doors, cladding, decking, structural, and much more. Technologically advanced companies

ALL ABOUT HOME

You do not just choose from the offered samples – you start with a consultation of a professional designer who will go far to make sure that your new entrance door becomes the object of attention of the street where you live. Photos of your house will be entered into a computer, and the designer will digitally “install” different doors to help you decide which style, colour, material, and finish best suit the exterior of your residence. Each door is made to order to make it unique; all the dimensions, shapes, and elements suit your house alone and none other. You can also choose to have a glass

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

Select the wood you think is best for you, from simple, to exotic, to the above-mentioned accoya. The door leaf consists of three layers with reversed-directed fibres glued together under the 80-ton pressure and dried by a special method. This makes the door especially strong and not susceptible to damage and distortion. MD Doors uses for staining and varnishing Europeanmade Goudey products famous for their high quality and environmental safety. All the doors have dual phase insulation that makes them airtight. The bottom edge of every door has a built-in mechanism that automatically slides out when the door opens and slides back in upon its closing, enhancing the air tightness. All the doors are fitted with three-bolt Multi locks, adjustable hinges, and a number of other advanced function-improving details. Besides, all the components as well as design assistance are included in the price, which means no surprises when it comes to the final bill. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, you are invited to visit the MD Doors showroom personally and see the advantages for yourself.

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS We are so used to seeing our reflection everywhere, from our bathroom mirror to auto glass, that it seems hardly possible to imagine the world in which people have no idea how they look. Nevertheless, just a few centuries ago this was a privilege accessible only to the richest.

How the Modern Mirror Was Born The only place people of old could see their reflection was water. The first mirrors made of copper, bronze, or silver, were dull, and reflection in them – blurred. Besides, metal tends to darken with age and humidity and loses its reflective ability. The first relative of the modern looking glass was born in Europe in the 13th century. These mirrors were small, convex, and not smooth, clean, or clear enough for achieving a perfect reflection. But men wanted to see themselves clearly and in the smallest detail, which led to a swift improvement of the manufacturing process. Not everyone could afford to have a looking glass at those times because it may have cost enough to sustain an average family for six months. Two centuries after the glass mirror technology had been developed, the looking glass was expensive because of the monopoly on its manufacturing that belonged to glassblowers located on Murano island, as well as because the process was labour intensive, with polishing that would take the craftsman up to 100 hours! Only after the 16th century, the process of mirror-making spread all over Europe and got simplified. With time, the mirror became within reach of every person.

The Mirror as a Decor Element Reflecting is the main function of the mirror. Since reflecting something means visually multiplying it, make sure you place your mirrors in such a way that they reflect correct things: if the mirror gives out the unencumbered space of the room, it enhances it visually while if you can see the reflection of the washroom or a trash can… Well, you get the point! Interior designers suggest that you have a tall mirror in the hallway, so that everyone entering or leaving could see his reflection. If you decide on a smaller-size mirror, make sure it does not “cut off” the top of the head of a person who looks in it.

Myths and Superstitions Those who believe in the Oriental myth that a human soul leaves the body during the night to rest, should not have the bedroom mirror reflect the bed where they sleep, allegedly to prevent scaring the spirit. According to another legend, mirrors you bring home should be completely new (no antiques or collectibles!), and, before starting using it, you should wash it in running water to eliminate the previous reflections. Keeping your mirror clean, insists this myth, you renew yourself and look at the world with different eyes. Some people think that you should not be unhappy with your looks and criticize yourself in front of the looking glass because it supposedly can multiply the information it receives. The opinion that we look better in our home looking glass than in store mirrors or even in the mirrors of other people’s homes is based on the belief that the mirror at home is accustomed to us and reflects not only our looks, but our moods as well. Has your mirror cracked or broke into pieces? Many of your friends will insist that you replace it immediately –because it will “break” your world into smithereens. But even a designer who does not believe in myths will suggest that the broken mirror should be replaced - because it does not look esthetically pleasing anymore.

Perfect PLANNING involves a breakdown of all relevant costs, which need to be accounted and documented. Next, develop a scope-of-work document that lists the full scope of what has to be done and by whom. A schedule should also be put together to accompany the design, budget, and the scope-of-work document. With these documents in hand, you will have a clear blueprint of action for the project. You can now rest easy, knowing that all you have to do now is to FOLLOW the completed plan that you have put together. The initial investment in planning is the true secret ingredient for the successful realization of any project, be it small or big. Happy planning.

Beginning a design project can seem overwhelming, but if you follow some simple advice from time tested procedures you will find that a little advance planning is the secret to an easy way to achieve a great result. Whether you’re remodelling, redecorating, or designing from scratch, a strong plan at the beginning of the project is the best way to ensure your happiness and sanity at the finish. As a Construction Manager, I am approached by Developers, Builder’s, Architects, Designers and Owners...all with a “vision” for a project to alter the current state of some property, somewhere. The route to successfully maneuver through all of the required logistics is to develop a written plan of action. Once presented with a concept, or idea, for a project, I typically begin by verifying local rules, regulations and restrictions. A feasibility study should be conducted on all design/construction projects, regardless of scope, to identify any restrictions prior to proceeding. The “old wise man” inside of me reminds me that the old Murphy’s Law has

a near perfect probability of holding true. Cross the T’s, dot the I’s, measure twice, cut once! Once you have checked and cleared the legal and regulatory restrictions and established the outside parameters of the scope of work, including the budget, proceed to level 2 of scrutiny. Value engineering holds the project up to the light and examines whether it could be made “better” or more cost effective. As a designer I confess that it is easy to fall in love with a certain way of designing the working components, but you must always invest your time in researching and finding better alternatives able to cut cost and time of the project. Unless the budget is of no concern (and I don’t know a legitimate place where this would be true) how you do what with which materials makes an enormous impact on the overall function. By now, you should have a plan that involves a hard copy of the design, anything from a hand sketch for a small project all the way up to sophisticated and engineered official construction drawings and elaborate 3D visualization modelling. You should have checked and cleared restrictions and answered the question “can it be made better”? Now you need to determine the required budget for the project. This

CHAIRS “A great chair is like a face..., you meet thousands, but few are memorable.” Ross Lovegrove “If it’s the right chair, it doesn’t take too long to get comfortable in it”. Robert De Niro

It’s hard to imagine life without a chair. We almost take this comfortable piece of furniture for granted: seat, back, four legs. But once, the chair was considered an item belonging in the households of the “rich and famous” only. The common people would sit at home on floors, chests, beds, or indeed on the floor. Although with time, the chair would become a common piece of furniture in the average household, they would still remain very basic. Early designs of chairs originated in cultures such as Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, the Ancient Middle East, Ancient Greece and Rome, Medieval Europe and Ancient Native American and African cultures.

Jiaoyi – Ancient Chinese folding chair is also known as a travelling chair.

As a matter of fact, the chair presents the greatest structural challenge of all the types of furniture. To build a chair, one has to address the weak part: the joint between the seat and the back leg, an area especially strained when one needs to lean or tilt backwards. So, the very familiar chair that you know does not only have an interesting history, but it is also a structural wonder.

EARLY 1800s

The most successful was the Austrian manufacturer Michael Thonet. By the late 1800s, his mass-produced bentwood furniture of simple design became very popular among the upper classes as well as among commoners.

Until the mid-19th century, chairs were made by hand. It was a period of experimenting with new techniques and methods in order to produce high quality inexpensive furniture in large quantities.

They were adorned with rich carvings, semi-precious stones and had varied surface treatments. By the mid 1650’s chairs became more popular and were often upholstered, and by the mid 1750’s, most carpenters and furniture designers realized that the chair should not only look good, but also be comfortable to sit on.

It was regarded as the most successful product of the 19th century. The early version of Thonet Chair No. 14 was glued together from laminated wood. However, he continued to work on improving the design of the chair, nicknamed the “Consumer Chair”, and by 1867, it was made from six pieces of bentwood, ten screws, and two washers. It was Thonet’s cheapest model that went for three Austrian florins.

EARLY 1900s

Geometric form, a monochrome palette, and floral patterns were very popular during that period and distinctly inherent in their designs. Their chairs were made by hand in small quantities and were mostly bought by the wealthy. Occasionally, they had special commissions to design for public buildings, such as Glasgow tea rooms and Viennese coffee houses. Josef Hoffmann and Charles Rennie Mackintosh met in England in 1902. Josef Hoffmann was impressed and influenced by

the bold, geometric style of the Scottish architect’s furniture. One of his great design creations was the beech chair that Hoffmann designed for the Cabaret Fledermaus in Vienna. It was described by a critic at the time as being “wonderful – the proportions, the light atmosphere, cheerful flowing lines, elegant light fixtures, comfortable chairs of new shape, and, finally, the whole tasteful ensemble. Genuine Hoffmann.”

During the early 1900s, progressive designers and architects, such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh of Scotland and Josef Hoffmann of Austria, who were regarded as a leading force in Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts Movement, continued experimentation with chair design.

THE MATTER OF DOORS Dividing the space, protecting from noise and draughts, privacy – these have always been the main functions of interior doors. Their decorative role had been for a long time considered secondary. With a significant widening of the variety of interior doors, their look has become a major concern. Replacing the old interior doors with new ones in a different style can often be sufficient to make major changes in the décor. Important factors to think about are the door design, trim, finish, and colour. We started discussing this matter in the March issue of our magazine. In the article below we will continue this discussion.

wood imitation is to find a common hue in them and select the door whose colour matches this hue. Nevertheless, floor coverings do not limit themselves to wood, laminate, or wood-imitating linoleum. The floor can be covered in coloured tiles, wall-to-wall carpeting, or brightly coloured linoleum. This makes the selection process that much harder. If wood or wood imitations are the floor material of choice in the halls and entranceway, it may be a good idea to select a door in the same colour but in a lighter tone. Of course, such a door may look inappropriate from the other side if what is behind it is a room with a different wall covering. To solve this problem you can match the door to other decor elements, like furniture, for example, or decorative accents. Such an effort is worthwhile in order to maintain a uniform look on the common area side.

White interior doors are universal because they suit any style of decor. Another advantage is the feeling of lightness and space white doors create. Purchasing a white interior door you spare yourself the dilemma of matching it to floors, walls, furniture, or some other decorative element – white doors not unlike white window frames do not stand apart, do not draw attention to themselves, and do not conflict with the elements of a different colour. It is customary to choose antiquated white doors for Provence or country style interiors. Such doors become naturally integrated into the decor and emphasize its style.

Often, in the premises with different floor coverings throughout, interior doors are matched to the colour of the prevailing furniture. This method takes the second place in popularity. To match dark furniture, choose the doors of the same colour but four to five tones lighter. To avoid interior doors that are so dark as to give the room a somber look, use doors with glass inserts.

DOOR COLOUR AND FLOOR COLOUR Designers often resort to the time-proven solution of matching interior doors to the floor covering. It is easy when all the floors in the home are covered in uniform wood or laminate. It is not that easy though for the premises containing a few differing floor coverings. One way to match the new interior door to the floors of different colours of wood or

26

ALL ABOUT HOME

Now let’s look at a case where the furniture in different rooms is of differing colours – some light wood, some dark wood, and the other, painted bright and vivid. Then your best choice is a door with uniform veneer on one side and individually ordered for each room colour veneer on the other. This solution is expensive because the doors need to be made to order but they will be uniform on the side of the common area while being in harmony with the colour scheme of each and every individual room. Another way may be to make your interior doors harmonious not with the floor or furniture but with the walls, especially if the walls in the whole place are painted the same or similar colour. For example, if the

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

walls in the home vary from white to beige you can install cream-coloured interior doors throughout. NEUTRAL COLOURS SUPPORTED BY FRAMES AND FLOORBOARDS An easy and popular solution for colour matching where interior doors are concerned is to install doors of neutral colour that could be white, buff, grey, blonde wood, oak, or beech, regardless of whether this door matches other elements in the room - the floors, walls, or furniture, but use door frames and floorboards of the colour matching the door throughout the whole place, thus supporting the door colour and creating a consistent look. In this way, you create a uniform colour line throughout the whole place and your interior doors easily integrate into it. THEREFORE: 1. There is no hard and fast rule that insists that the door and floor colours match! 2. The colour of the interior door may contrast the colour of the floor covering. 3. Doors can match furniture but it is not an absolute requirement. 4. The door may be neutral (white, grey, buff, glass, etc.) and not matching one definite element as long as it does not clash with the decor of the room. 5. It is acceptable to install an interior door of virtually any colour if it is supported by the door and window frames and floorboards. 6. It may be sufficient to match the interior doors to only window frames. Actually, this is the simplest solution – to install uniform colour doors and windows throughout the whole house and abandon the idea of integrating them into the various tones of each and every room.

LIVE WATER Water possesses various characteristics including taste, colour, smell, clearness, conductivity, pH, structure, etc. One of the more important qualities of water is its ORP (oxidation-reduction potential). Oxidation-reduction potential, measured in mV units, is the strength with which a substance either oxidizes or cleans the body. The ability of water among all the other substances to give away electrons means restoring the body and rejuvenating it when this kind of water is consumed. When water or any other substance absorbs our body electrons, it serves to oxidize it. Consuming this kind of water, we age and are stripped of our vitality. Yet another water characteristic is data transmission on the energy level.

bilizers and bases, chlorides and chloramines, as well as highly toxic carcinogenic substances for disinfecting. Another dangerous substance that finds a way to our tap water is fluoride that is added ostensibly to prevent tooth decay – but this is a completely different subject.

Once, a case of mass poisoning took place in a top-secret lab of the Third Reich. The Secret Service made sure that it had not been due to subversion or any of the other most obvious reasons, like chemical or bioactive substance leak or food poisoning. That left only one possibility – the auditorium where a great number of military specialists of various ranks had conducted an extensive presentation of a new mass-destruction weapon, with reports, slides, and films, - offered drinking water from a container. The study of that water discovered no active ingredients like chemical of biological poisons or heavy metals, but it had a long-lasting damaging effect just the same. Eventually scientists concluded that water could transfer information like a magnetic strip.

Isn’t this too much to ask, you may say. What choices do we, urban dwellers, have? If living next to a clean mountain river is out of the question, your next best choice is making a live thawed structured water by having your water settle, then eliminating its bottom layer, and freezing the upper one with thawing it afterwards. It would not take too long – just 15 minutes a day. The problem is that the resulting water is not an antioxidant. And here we come to yet another best way which is using highquality ionizers manufactured by Japanese company Enagic.

There is plenty of proof to this ability of water. Let’s say you are back home after a difficult and troublesome work day. Men usually wash the stress off in the shower, while women prefer a relaxing bath. When you get out of the bathroom, refreshed and calm, you do not feel tired anymore. What happened to your negative feelings? They have literally gone down the drain, along with the bath water. Nevertheless, in a big city, the water charged with other people’s problems does not go too far away. It undergoes cleansing and processing and acquires acidic level with the pH of 6.0. Water processing is controlled by municipal authorities, who, in order to prevent municipal water pipes from corrosion, disregard our “inner pipes”, and add to municipal water tons of sta-

28

ALL ABOUT HOME

We are aware of the fact that not every kind of wet and clear water is drinkable. Water needs to be alive. It needs to be an antioxidant which means to have a negative ORP, giving away electrons that will regenerate our cells. It has to be alkaline, with the pH up to 9.5 but without base additives. It has to be free of artificial chemicals but not devoid of natural salts and microelements. Another very important consideration is the absence of foreign energy clusters.

After undergoing the process of electrolysis, our water acquires all the vital qualities. Passing through the device, water is rid of foreign negative energy information and acquires all the quality of the virgin glacier water. This water is also a powerful antioxidant, a few times stronger than barley, spirulina, or ginseng extract. Water passed through the Enagic device has the ORP of up to - 650mV, which makes it the purest antioxidant devoid of any chemical additives. For comparison, see that freshly squeezed orange juice has the ORP of minus 50mV, and the barley or spirulina extract, minus 70mV. Your tap water has the ORP of plus 450 mV! Store-bought bottled water and water passed through a household filter of Brita type has the ORP of +160 to + 400mV. Enagic is the Rolls-Royce of the water ionizer market; they manufacture high-quality components that are assembled in Japan. If you want to compare the “engine” of the Enagic-made SD501 device

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

with other machines of similar type, a company technician will take it apart and demonstrate its components for comparison. The device function is based on water passing a chamber of seven electrodes made almost hundred percent from medical titanium coated with two layers of platinum. Even solid silver plates would come cheaper. The electrodes contact surface is a very important consideration, as well as a power of the DC transformer; the larger the two of these factors are, the stronger ionization is. Another concern is the size. Most devices on the market are roughly the same size while the size of their components differs greatly. The “engine” in some US and Korean made gadgets is two to three times smaller than the Japanese one. American manufacturers insist that it is possible to increase the contact surface even in a smaller chamber. Yes, it can be done by making apertures in the electrodes. This does greatly increases the contact surface but after a short while into operation, either electrodes disintegrate or the apertures get clogged with calcium – or, sometimes, both problems happen simultaneously. The surface inside the device has to be extremely smooth. The smoother the surface, the less chances water salts have to stick to the surface. Enagic machines have a useful feature of self-cleaning after certain periods of time by switching electrode poles thus removing salt deposits from the device. Scientific research combined with Japanese technologies offers a method to turn regular tap water into primordial quality Live Water, KANGEN water that is a powerful antioxidant. Japanese quality, materials, and assembly warrant the longevity of Enagic machines. Upon hearing the word “Enagic” for the first time, I heard it as “Magic” which was not far from the truth. It does not mean that you have to abandon the antioxidants derived from plants; but you can apply the equation where one plus one makes not two but, let’s say, 25 or even 125. This is the synergy effect. This is similar to the union of two people who, taken each of them separately are just nice one-person units but put together, they create a family, an outburst. One plus one makes infinity! We have to take the issue of our family health into our own hands.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Dr. Oleg Korbut, (647) 835-0978 www.drkorbut.com www.korbut-kangen.com www.aahtoronto.com
