Toxic. Yep, toxic. Not just in the literal or environmental sense, but in relationships, habits, and (of course) politics. Sigh… will 2018 ever end? Best thing to do when the going gets toxic? Find an angel. Here’s an excerpt from Dallas Morning News columnist Paul Crume’s excellent 1967 Christmas morning column. Angels live daily at our very elbows, and so do demons, and most men at one time or another in their lives have yielded themselves to both and have lived to rejoice and rue their impulses. But the man who has once felt the beat of an angel’s wing finds it easy to rejoice at the universe and at his fellow man. There is an angel close to you this day. Merry Christmas, and I wish you well.

The Miracle of Awakened Thinking

GOD ISN’T SANTA CLAUS By Dr. Joe Vitale

Dr. Joe Vitale, a star in The Secret, is a bestselling author, musician, speaker, and coach. His latest book is Anything is Possible. You can have his free e-book, Attract Money Now, at www.AttractMoneyNow.com His main website is www.MrFire.com

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn’t work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness. – Comedian Emo Phillips Why is that line funny? Every time I relate it to someone, they smile and laugh. Why?

It’s a great example of a paraprosdokian.

A paraprosdokian is a sentence where the ending comes as an unexpected surprise. Another example is this one, from famous evangelist Billy Sunday. Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. I love how you can structure writing to make an impact. That’s why I wrote the book Hypnotic Writing. But that isn’t the point of this article. Instead, I want to explore why the first paraprosdokian is funny, as it helps explain the Law of Attraction. Most people believe God (or the Divine, The Universe, Nature, or whatever term you use) won’t grant wishes. That’s the underlying reason the above line triggers a smile. You can ask God for healing, but you can’t ask God for stuff. God isn’t Santa Claus. Not according to popular belief, anyway. Deeper than that belief is the one that says while God won’t grant wishes. He (or She) will take away sins. God is loving and understanding, so of course He can release you of any oops. As a result of this thinking, it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for what you want. At least, that’s how some people think.

That’s pretty messed up, isn’t it?

This is why I keep writing books, such as The Awakening Course and The Attractor Factor, to explore the programming behind what we think, feel, and do. Most of us are running on autopilot. We have no idea we’re being led by the nose by our mental programming or mindset. Our beliefs (mostly unconscious) filter reality. A few years ago, I was reading the book Redirect by Timothy Wilson, and loving the idea of editing the meaning we give events, until I realized the author was victim to programming he didn’t even see. In his book, he blew the whistle on different causes or processes he says don’t actually work. Early on, he takes aim at the movie The Secret. He quotes me as saying the reason you have what you have is due to your thoughts. He apparently missed the part where I said you have what you have due to your actions. Thoughts are only part of the equation.

6

Glossing over facts because they don’t support your underlying message is a common way to communicate.

But it’s not real. Or accurate. Again, it’s not the author’s fault. He’s as unconscious as the rest of us. In the same book, the author suggested that self-help books don’t actually work, or else there would be a standout title in the field. That’s strange logic, but let’s run with it. In the same chapter, he mentions one of the all-time greatest self-help books, Norman Vincent Peale’s 1952 The Power of Positive Thinking.

How’d he miss that?

He also fails to mention such historic self-help treasures as Think and Grow Rich (been around since the 1930s), and The Magic of Believing (came out in the 1950s, still a classic today). How’d he miss those? On top of all that, he overlooks the fact that new cookbooks are published every week, and there are thousands of those in print – yet no one suggests they don’t work. How’d he overlook that? I’m not kicking the author’s shins, as I enjoyed his book and urge you to read it. But I am reminding us that we all have unconscious blind spots – even authors who try to help us see them. We don’t see them because they’re unconscious.

The point of life is to awaken.

But how? Paying attention to the results we get – and then reverse engineering them to discover the thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and actions that created them – will help. My book Instant Manifestation explores all this. It reveals that what you attracted right now is based on what you thought and did a few days ago. When you understand that process, you can redirect your thoughts and actions, right now, to attract a different reality in the near future. What are you thinking right now? What are you going to do next? Your answers will attract what’s just around the corner.

Choose wisely.

Finally, to swing back to our opening example: I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn’t work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness. Forgiveness is a powerful tool for transformation. But it’s not God (or, as I say, All That Is) that needs to forgive you. You need to forgive yourself. Manifesting what you want is a God-given birthright, though you may not have known it until recently. You don’t need to ask God to deliver anything to you. You need to ask yourself, and your connection to All That Is, for what is in your highest good to receive. Now go forth and make your life miraculous. Genesis It’s a start.

Ahh, the holidays,

Whether your spiritual orientation leans to the literal or metaphorical, it’s a pretty good bet there’s something in there about everything starting from nothing. Zen, the big bang, six days of creation followed by a day of rest, or some combination thereof, it all comes from a void, nothingness, zero – a cosmic goose egg. Six geese a’ laying is, in fact, said to represent the six days of creation in one interpretation of the song, which dates back to an old children’s game set to music around 1909.

Time again for things we look forward to all year – mindless consumerism and obligatory, uncomfortable, or downright confrontational family affairs. No, wait, sorry. That’s not it at all.

Traditions.

There we go. Don’t have any good traditions? Make some up. Somebody has to, and Austin All Natural did in 2013, when our December cover was the first in a series of original digital artworks by cover designer Leslie Kell depicting the Twelve Days of Christmas. It didn’t really start out to be a tradition. A tradition, by definition, depends on repetition (which would make a pretty decent rap lyric), but by the time three French hens showed up, it was obvious we were on to something. Four calling birds and five gooollld rings later, here we are. Six geese a’ laying had the potential to be awkward. When you count it down, singing it backwards, it sounds like the six geese are actually laying those five gooollld rings – an unpleasant thing for all but one of the geese, and a surefire way to get PETA on your case if depicted accurately. Leslie, however, handled it with aplomb, which sounds like she made it into a traditional Christmas pudding when you say it out loud, but which actually means she worked the six geese into a Christmas tree design (seeing as how goose plum pudding would have that same PETA thing to worry about).

Can’t have a tree without presents underneath it. No indeed, and what better present could six geese a’ laying leave you than – goose eggs! Not as good as five gooollld rings, but better than nothing, which is, of course, what a goose egg represents – a big ol’ zero. Zero isn’t really a bad thing, though. It’s nothing, with the potential for everything, which means it’s time for the traditional segue signaling the end of column one.

8

Take a gander.

Geese and swans are, among other things, symbols of fortune, fertility, and riches – remember the goose that laid the golden eggs? Jack had to climb a beanstalk to get the goose, which glides neatly into the symbolism of avian beings of most any persuasion as intermediaries between Earth and Heaven and back again, which can lead you down a whole bunch of rabbit holes.

There aren’t any rabbits in Twelve Days, though.

There are, however, some pretty interesting critters in other versions of the song around the world. An olde Scottish version has a menagerie that includes three goldspinks, a bull that was brown, an Arabian baboon, and a pippin go aye, a Scots word for either a peacock – or a parrot. (That’s a fine big parrot, Jock. Does he talk? Nay, Seamus, but he has a bonny fine tail.)

The true Genesis.

When discussing Genesises (Geneses?), it’s easy to drift off into matters of scripture, tricky waters to navigate. There is, however, the one true version of Genesis, and Leslie says she’s just fine with relating it to her work. You know where this is going, right? Sing along – you know you want to. I can’t dance, I can’t talk The only thing about me is the way I walk - I Can’t Dance, Genesis (Released Dec. 30, 1991)

ON YOUR NERVES

What happens when your operating system goes awry? By Michael Abedin

T

hat body you’re carrying yourself around in is an incredibly complex series of systems. Your digestive system brings in nutrients and converts them to a form that can be delivered to the rest of the mechanism via the circulatory system, along with oxygen, courtesy of the respiratory system. The muscular and skeletal systems work together to keep you mobile, your endocrine system delivers hormones, and your eliminatory system works in conjunction with everything else to get rid of wastes and toxins. The immune system, the bouncer, keeps interlopers from messing with the mechanism – and should you decide to duplicate the whole setup, you have a reproductive system that’s happy to assist you. None of them operates in a vacuum, however. They all work together, ideally in sync, and there’s one overriding system that keeps everybody communicating and on the job.

The nervous system.

The brain and spinal cord are the hub of your body’s most complex system (along with the gut, research is showing), and communicates with all your other parts through a neural network of billions upon billions of cells that function like your very own fiber optics network. Like the network of cables, towers, and satellites that drives the electronic devices that keep modern life humming along, you don’t really pay that much attention to the nervous system until something goes wrong. When it does, though, you really pay attention, often as not because of the one bit of sensory input that pretty much demands attention – pain, and all the impairment of your body’s form and function it brings along for the ride. Imagine the bundles of fiber optics running under a single city block in Austin, coordinating everything from traffic signals to commercial transactions flowing through downtown banks. Now imagine the Balcones Fault shifting a bit, sending a little tectonic rumble through downtown and relocating the foundation of that city block a foot or so, disrupting all those signals – maybe even severing a line, or otherwise blocking the millions of bits of information flowing through that one small part of a giant network.

Not a pretty picture down the line, is it? 10

Now imagine, say, a bulge in the casing of a disc acting as

a cushion between two spinal vertebrae in your lower back, allowing a bit of its jellylike contents to push the casing out a bit, trapping a nerve trunk between it and the bony surface of a vertebrae. You may not feel the pain in the disc or vertebrae, but on down the line, your sciatic nerve is going to let you know something is very, very wrong. There are a number of options for dealing with the pain of a herniated disc, or of any other conditions of the spine, brain, or any part of the nervous system causing you pain or dysfunction.

Thing is, this is your nervous system.

No matter how in tune you are with your body, this is its operating system. It’s going to take more than intuition to figure this one out – it takes someone with specialized training who is able to tell you what’s going on. That doesn’t mean what are considered alternative therapies by many mainstream practitioners should be discounted, however. Pain or impairment from disorders of the nervous system can sometimes be managed indefinitely using some combination of physical therapy, aqua therapy, massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, lifestyle modifications like weight management or activity adjustments, anti-inflammatory medications, or even epidural steroid injections before more serious measures, like surgical procedures, need to be considered. If and when they are considered, however, there are a growing number of mainstream practitioners, like neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon Dr. Deshdeepak Sahni, who embrace using such alternative therapies as a way to supplement and enhance the healing process, and who embrace the least invasive procedures possible to repair damages. Instead of traditional fusion surgery, Dr. Sahni points out, minimally invasive microsurgery can correct problems like herniated discs and have a patient up and about in a couple of hours, usually completely pain-free. There are always answers for any health concerns, even nervous system disorders, if you look to the right professional. Dr. Deshdeepak Sahni is a neurosurgeon and osteopathic spinal surgeon specializing in disorders of the brain and spinal column, and advocating natural and non-invasive procedures whenever possible. WHEELS ARE TURNING

Don’t let holiday eating spin you off the track by Cecili Eckert

• Allow yourself to have some fun foods you typically don’t indulge in. • Take a ten-minute break before going back for seconds. Maybe you aren’t hungry after all. • Keep your distance from appetizers and leftovers on countertops, to prevent mindless eating while you catch up with other guests.

T

he wheel of the year continues to turn and December’s upon us, and a New Year just around the corner. If you’ve been working towards a health goal, this time of year can seem daunting. Don’t fall victim to typical holiday overindulgences that can take you off track. Regret’s never any fun, but holidays don’t have to be full of boring food or deprivation. You can stay centered and still enjoy the merriment. One important thing to remember is that while you might be surrounded by lots of food, you’re hopefully also surrounded by lots of people you love. Focus your attention on what matters most – connecting with dear friends and family.

This is the ultimate season of parties and gatherings. No matter how busy you are, try not to show up feeling famished. Always have a small healthy snack in your car or purse so you don’t feel overly hungry and overeat as a result. When it’s time to eat, take full inventory before you begin filling your plate. A few tips: • Choose wisely, and be sure your plate has some diversity.

Get moving.

Here in Central Texas, we might have some cold, brisk days, but few of them are cold enough to prevent you from enjoying some time outdoors, moving your body. Feel like you overate? Feel overscheduled? Take some time to go on a walk or hike. Enjoy the beauty of this time of year. Not only is this good for your waistline, it’s extremely good for relieving stress, depression, and anxiety that can easily find its way into your life during the holidays. Whatever this season brings, try slowing your pace, enjoying the festivities, and staying in a state of awareness of how you feel. You can almost never go wrong if you listen to your body and honor what it tells you.

CAULIFLOWER MEDLEY

Whether you’re hosting a dinner or being a guest and bringing a dish, consider being the one to introduce some healthy options for sides or appetizers. Here’s a favorite holiday side dish, easy to prepare. Ingredients: 4 tbsp. butter 1 red onion, chopped 2 celery stalks, chopped or thinly sliced 1 small head cauliflower, chopped 1 package pre-cubed butternut squash Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 1 tsp. celery salt 1 tbsp. freshly chopped sage (or 1 tsp. ground sage) 1/4 c. low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth Preparation:

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion and celery. Sauté until soft, 7-8 minutes. Add cauliflower and butternut squash and season with salt and pepper. Cook until tender, 8-10 minutes more. Add celery salt and sage, stir until combined. Pour over broth, cook until totally tender and liquid is absorbed, 10 minutes.

THE SIX DAYS OF CHRISTMAS True, it’s supposed to be twelve days, but you have to start somewhere – and starting in 2013, Austin All Natural cover designer and digital artist Leslie Kell launched her series of original works illustrating each of the days in the classic Christmas song, in a style reminiscent of stained glass. Each of them appeared as our December cover art, and now we’re halfway there, on schedule to finish in 2024 with Twelve… umm, Twelve… Lords a Leaping? Santas Laughing? Sales at WalMart?

O R G A S M I C

BIRTH by Lane Sebring, M.D.

14

The Big O, Paleo, and Healthy Kids H

ave you ever had the experience of discovering and following a new truth, and it took you further than you ever imagined? That was my experience after being introduced to the Paleo diet years ago. I recognized it as a major truth. It explained so much, including why I was so often unable to cure my patients – I was only able to offer them a drug to treat symptoms.

There was something wrong with that system.

It simply did not fit with my admittedly romantic view of nature, or with what I understood about life on Earth. Why did so many humans need a drug, a molecule that never before existed, just to feel and function normally? After hearing a lecture by Lauren Cordain, Ph.D. entitled, Grains: Mankind’s Double Edged Sword, the answer became very clear to me. We’re eating a diet so far from what our bodies were designed to eat it seems amazing we do as well as we do. After using the Paleo diet as the foundation of my medical practice for many years, however, I’ve come to realize we haven’t really done that well after all. Our health is nothing like it was before we started down this dietary dirt road. The healthiest among us may be a full order of magnitude below the truly healthy human. The story of this path of discovery is at once both exhilaratingly glorious and painfully sad – but it demonstrates a potential world more amazing and more friendly than we imagined. We lived as hunter-gatherers for ninety-nine percent of our genetic history. That’s the lifestyle for which our genes are designed. Probably the closest we come to living that lifestyle now is by dedicated athletes, and working with them has become an important part of my practice – especially older patients who want to regain the athletic abilities they once had, before injuries, age-realted isues, and subsequent changes in training regimens slowed them down.

You can hunt, you can gather – but can you milk a wild animal?

If you study hunter-gatherers, including those still present on the planet and those in our archaeological records, you’ll find a diet made up of fruits, nuts, vegetables, berries, and animals – with seventy percent of the diet coming from animals. Grains, beans, and potatoes were considered starvation food, constituting a very small and rare part of the diet. Dairy was unavailable after three years of age because domestication of animals had not yet occurred – and, no, you cannot milk a wild animal. The study of hunter-gatherers reveals they’re very healthy people. They don’t have asthma, allergies, or irritable bowel syndrome. They don’t get heart disease or diabetes, and cancer is found a hundred to a thousand times less frequently than it is in modern humans. I fully expect my diabetic patients who follow this diet will cure their own diabetes in five to six weeks – which includes elimination of their medication for diabetes. It also tends to eliminate the need for blood pressure medication, and anxiety, depression, and hypertension are often improved or eliminated.

I also prescribe this as a prenatal regimen.

Mothers who have followed this diet report to me a very different experience during pregnancy and at delivery. Most have reported their babies could lift their heads at delivery. One of the pediatricians present at the delivery who, after drying off the newborn, loudly proclaimed, “This baby has muscles it’s not supposed to have. It’s doing things it’s not supposed to do.” I’ve had the opportunity to follow these babies as their doctor. One baby boy, twenty-seven months old, was brought in by his mother for a routine physical. He sat up straight and tall with his legs dangling over the end of the table. I told him that I wanted to listen to his lungs. I had a stethoscope in my ears and put the listening end on my chest and said, “Go like this.” I took a deep breath in and out. I put the listening piece on his chest; he looked forward and took a deep breath in and out. He repeated this several more times as I listened to various places on his chest and back. I was in awe. Most children, if they are breast-fed, can’t do this until they are four years old. If they are not breast-fed, they typically can’t do it until five.

O, baby.

Here’s an unexpected, but impressive, side effect. I’ve had mothers who have followed the Paleo diet during their pregnancy report to me they experienced an orgasm at delivery. One even reported having experienced it with several of her contractions. I wasn’t sure what to make of this. I was a believer in the Paleo diet – but this was something else. Were we that out of sync with nature? I then learned a good compounding pharmacist can make up sublingual dissolving lozenges of a hormone called oxytocin, and they’ll increase intensity and duration of orgasms. Oxytocin is the hormone that also causes contractions – and that’s not just a happy coincidence. I later discovered a documentary and a segment of 20/20 that deals with orgasmic birth. It may be we were told about all this before, and just didn’t recognize it. If memory serves, when we got kicked out of the Garden of Eden we were told, In the sweat of thy brow thou shalt eat thy bread… and multiply pain in childbirth. Maybe it didn’t used to be that painful. What kind of world would this be if we were born through orgasmic birth, rather than the screaming pain of our mothers? It may be the one from which we came. WATER

Why is drinking enough of it a big deal? Why, indeed? For starters, it’s easy to forget water is a nutrient, and easier still to forget it can be an important tipping point between health and illness. Most everyone knows water makes up about seventyfive percent of the human body, almost exactly the same percentage of the Earth’s surface covered by water – it’s not only the basis of the life and health of your body, it’s the basis of the life and health of the planet. Water performs (or assists) a number of crucial functions, including: • Transporting and absorbing nutrients, especially minerals. • Eliminating waste. • Regulating body temperature. • Lubricating and cushioning joints and organs. • Keeping skin and muscle tissue supple and flexible. • Transmitting electrical signals through the nervous system.

That last one is a biggie.

Like a hydroelectric plant, the movement of water into and out of cells produces a significant amount of energy – in fact, it may be the human body’s greatest single energy source. That’s why one symptom of dehydration is fatigue, along with headaches, constipation, and brain fog. Start having these symptoms, and your body is probably already rationing water, saving it for life-sustaining functions and putting others on hold – meaning they don’t get the water they need. How much water do you need? Take half your body weight, change it from pounds to ounces. (If you weigh 150, you need 75 ounces of water – about six average 12-ounce glasses.)

And it needs to be quality water.

Not soft drinks or sports drinks (sugar, sodium, caffeine bombs leading to chronic dehydration, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease); tap water (full of pollutants, including prescription drugs); or bottled water (often as not just costly, plastic-encased tap water, full of endocrine-disrupting phthalates and BPA, and an environmental nightmare). Ionized, alkaline water supplies an abundance of oxygen on the cellular level, for energy and mental clarity, and may help maintain the best pH factor, the balance between acid and alkaline. Disease thrives in an acid pH state, so since ionized water is said to help maintain an alkaline, oxygenated state with antioxidant properties, it may help fight disease-causing free radicals – the ones resulting in degenerated organs, bones, muscles, and joints, causing the body to age. BRING ME FLOWERS

Stress, craziness, and the flower remedies of Edward Bach

AUSTIN ALL NATURAL PRESENTS

Quantum Reiki THE MASTER INTENSIVE

by Michael Abedin There’s a syndrome in natural health known as the healing crisis, in which you get worse before you get better. If that’s the case a divided America, staggering out of 2018, is due to get really, really better – if it survives getting worse. That’s the catch – you have to survive the downhill slide to start moving up. Fortunately, there are tools that can help.

One of them was developed by an English physician in the 1930s.

About the time Herbert Hoover was presiding over the slow slide into the Great Depression on this side of the pond, Edward Bach abandoned a thriving medical practice in the posh Fleet Street section of London to research natural, plantbased healing in a seaside village in Wales. (The modern-day equivalent would be dumping a plastic surgery practice in Dallas to hang out in, say, Port Aransas.) His work led him to create thirty-nine homeopathically prepared tinctures from flowering plants, to address mental, emotional, and spiritual states potentially leading to physical symptoms. His flower essences have since become a standard of natural healing.

Reeling from holiday craziness?

How about the aftermath of vicious mid-term elections, or the surreal craziness of what was once everyday life? Grab a bottle of Rescue Remedy for immediate, acute stress – or, better yet, get your own personalized blend of remedies. Bach’s remedies can be used for immediate, acute states, but the most effective way to use them is in a longer-term synergistic blend of several remedies, designed for your personal circumstances. Widely used remedies include Walnut (transitions, protection from outside influences, moving through big changes with grace and ease); Star of Bethlehem (sadness, loss, shock of bad news); and White Chestnut (unwanted thoughts, insomnia, disturbed sleep). Bach’s remedies are FDA approved for stress, and easy to incorporate into any holistic practice with a startup kit of a half-dozen most commonly used remedies – a Bach sixpack, as it were. An experienced consultant can also help you determine your own personalized six-pack of remedies (or five or seven pack, or whatever). Michael Abedin is a Reiki Master Teacher and an expert in the use of Edward Bach’s flower remedies, providing consultations and personalized blends. Upcoming workshops include Intro to Bach Flower Remedies, Jan. 17, and the Quantum Reiki Master Intensive, Jan. 25-27. Info, registration: (512) 879-7299.

January 25-27, 2019 Introduction to Bach Flower Remedies January 17, 2019

Learn the true history of Reiki founder Mikao Usui, and Reiki’s relationship to Qigong, martial arts, Taoist and Tibetan traditions, and Japan’s ancient shamanism. Michael Abedin is an eighth-generation Reiki Master Teacher of the Usui lineage, a fifth-degree black belt martial artist, and publisher and editor of Austin All Natural.

The Gift of

Listening by Christina Allen It’s that time of the year when we give gifts and share from our hearts. What about giving something very few others do this year, the act of listening? Most of us hear, and engage in conversation, but how often do we put our motives and opinions aside, put our discomfort in park, and just listen? Usually when someone speaks, it’s open season. Either party can throw into the ring whatever they have going though their minds. The other then reacts, or takes the conversation someplace else entirely. More often than not, we cut each other off mid-sentence and rush in to prove our point.

We judge, we one-up.

When we’re struggling, however, we don’t want feedback – we just need to feel heard and held. If someone is expressing feelings that make us uncomfortable, we may put the brakes on and try to shut the conversation down. We find ourselves wanting to fix them, or fix the situation, or perhaps we start intellectualizing about the circumstance to make the moment more abstract. It isn’t easy, really listening to someone’s pain. The question we need to ask ourselves is, are we helping them by trying to alleviate it – or are we shutting them down because we’re uncomfortable with it? Perhaps their floundering makes us feel helpless. Alternatively, we may have been exposed to unpredictable emotional outbursts in our families that make us wary of instability. If we were taught to put all “darkness” aside, however, we may never have learned how to navigate these realms.

The person who is in inner conflict may be genuinely trying to reach out.

They don’t know you can’t go there. They may be trying to share an intimate part of their soul with you, in hopes of establishing a deeper connection. If you’re uncomfortable with emotions, you’ll feel ill equipped for the exchange, and try to distance yourself. Many of us try to fix others because their unhappiness makes us feel inadequate and uneasy. The message we give them in attempting to fix them, however, is that they’re broken, and some part of them is inadequate.

18

Are they, though? Or are we afraid of this much emotional intimacy? The gift of listening is the act of becoming a compassionate listener. It is holding space without needing to intervene. Their sadness isn’t ours – it isn’t for us to hold, fix, or contain, or even talk them out of. It’s simply a deep part of themselves they feel safe enough to share with us. Just listen.

You’re not going to fall into the abyss.

Their soul is crying out. They need connection. They need a long hug! Know it’s temporary, and they will bounce back. This isn’t contagious. You’re not their dumping ground – you’re their sacred witness. By simply listening, you mirror their value, even when they’re down. You say, Yes! I still see you, I’ve got you! People in indigenous communities customarily sit in a circle and pass a talking stick around. They speak only when they have the stick. You cannot interrupt – you cannot react verbally at all. You simply hold space for that person to be heard. This has a twofold effect. One, it helps people feel heard, and secondly, it teaches us to cool our jets, to sit on our agendas and look at our discomfort. It forces us to become more aware of our need to be right, to win, to be in control – and more aware of our discomfort with emotion. It teaches us to hold space for one another. A person who can really hold space for another soul is actually quite rare. If you’re wondering what you can give someone this year, know that truly listening is one of the greatest gifts you can give. Christina Allen, Shamanic Healer, teacher, founder and director of the Austin Shamanic Center, combines a strong science background (BA Physics, MS Neuroscience) with decades of applied ancient spiritual wisdom as a Master Yogi, Reiki Master, and Shamanic Healer, based, in part, on Q’ero Indian traditions of Peru. Dear Ashtara:

Messages from Your Angels and Master Teachers Dear Ashtara, What do you see for my future in regards to purpose and passion? I feel next level career is paramount for me, but I want it to be fun, and to feel like a kid again. I’m in the last half of my life, and I still have so much to give. Tamara, 53, Austin, TX Dear Tamara, When you were born, you said that you would always “feel like a kid.” You also learned that the child within would shine – or not. Thank you for letting your inner child always be there for you. It looks like the last part of your life will be lucky, compassionate, musical, and always plentiful. Try examining another small career, like real estate, so you can tuck something away and keep doing your passion. You have much to look forward to. Your highest teacher is Ashtar, and your angel is Michael. Dear Ashtara, If there are in fact multiple realities, and multiple time lines engineered for control and confusion, then how can we be certain we are on the natural timeline for our highest good? NH, 67, Austin, TX Dear NH, The reality of a complex society versus a subliminal universe extracts the wholistic idea that we are here to incorporate a New Civilization. What you are getting from your highest angel, Gabriel, is what the New Human is about ready to incorporate. Congratulations on your superior brainwave. By the way, it looks like you are going to move through anything and everything for the rest of this lifetime, because your unseen teachers are going to make sure of it. Don’t worry, be happy! Your teacher is Ashtar. Your angel is Gabriel. Dear Ashtara, I am in a relationship with someone that does not live in my own city. I want to know if I should pursue it. Molly, 49, San Antonio, TX

20

Dear Molly, It depends whether one of you is willing to make a move. It also depends on how serious you are. I see it is difficult for you to make a move, and a bit easier for him to move. Going back and forth can be stimulating or exhausting. If it’s stimulating, keep it up and somehow the wind will take him over to you. Your high teacher is Sandalfon. Your angel is Gabriel. Dear Ashtara, Will governments shift to serve and support people again? When? It seems in the last fifty years, no matter whether red or blue was in office, nothing really changed. Yet we see politicians making huge salaries with better benefits than the average American. I vote, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Patriot, 50, Austin, TX Dear Patriot, Today, our governance serves to protect us. Because of that reality, we the people gather no moss. Suffice it to say, what we the people must learn is to totally accept whomever the public voted for and won. Strife is no longer a reality in peoples’ lives because, while there are differences with politicians, the people of the United States need to support what and whom they accounted for. Your question is taken very seriously and thank you for it. You are a wise woman, but please don’t let government get you down. Your teacher is Sandalfon. Your angel is Gabriel.

Submit your question for ‘Dear Ashtara’ via email: Ashtara@SashaWhite.com or call (512) 278-0559 and give your question (up to 30 words) with name or nickname, age, city, and state.

Private Sessions can be scheduled (in person or by phone). Questions answered and more. Ashtara Sasha White is a gifted psychic, profound healer, and channel from the Ascended Masters/ Archangels. She is also a Reiki Master Teacher, Seichim Reiki Master Teacher, Sound Current Healing Master Teacher, Embodiment Master Teacher, and Teacher of the Light. DO YOU

YOUR LIFE?

by Simone Wensink If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. – Henry David Thoreau 2019 is approaching. Start thinking New Year’s resolutions, especially those on your list year after year. When will they be accomplished? You get a great start the first few months of a new year, then fall back into old patterns.

A resolution is a firm decision to do (or not to do) something. Here are a few questions to ask: • Why are you making the resolution? • How can you keep doing something you decide on? • How can you get lasting results? • What’s it going to cost you if you don’t keep your resolution? • Is it a steppingstone for something bigger? • Do you have a dream?

Soul Guide

Here to Guide Souls as They Open Their Hearts to a Higher Level of Intelligence, and Bring Them Clarity and Grounding Carolyn Lanier Roberts (830) 765-0535 newxonearth@yahoo.com www.AllowingtheLight.com

Not so clear on your dream?

Start noticing your longing, your discontent. Your longing holds clues about what you want more of. Your discontent guides you to what you want less of, or to let go of. Most of us tend to keep going with patterns and habits that don’t serve us, living lives based on circumstances and putting dreams on hold till later, or when circumstances are in our favor. Mary Morrissey’s DreamBuilder program, designed to help live a vision-driven rather than a condition-driven life, might be a good way to support 2019 resolutions. A good start is to imagine a life you love, a unique dream – then ask five more questions about it, to make sure this dream is worthy of you. • Does it give you more life? • Does it align with your core values? • Does it make you grow? • Does it require help from a higher power? • Does it have good in it for others?

Can you say yes to all five?

If so, your dream most likely is worthy of you. Now you can start taking steps to support the dream. Do what you can, with what you have, from where you are, to move into the direction of your dream – or something even better. Take a step, every day. You don’t need to wait for New Year’s Day to start. Simone Wensink of Little Stones Life Coaching is a certified DreamBuilder Coach. Today’s Assignment Angels are your best teachers

by Dephanie Cates December is a great time to reflect on the year’s accomplishments, as well as goals not quite reached that can be moved to 2019. Hopefully, in personal relationships as well as work related relationships, 2018 has been one of the good years. Yes or no, help is out there to provide a sunnier outlook filled with hope, joy, and fulfillment. Many of us turn to God in prayer, but we may not feel our wishes can supersede His wish and plan. Because of that, God has a perfect solution for us mortals – and that solution is His Angels!

Angels are nondenominational, available to all religious beliefs.

Angels are amazing beings sent by God to help us in any situation, from a nagging emotional reaction to a problem, to a beautiful automobile you wish to acquire. The most important thing to know about Angels is they’re with us constantly. Let that sink in. Constantly in our presence, the sole mission of Angels is to make us happy. I repeat – Angels are in our lives to make us happy. Think of that – the power to make us happy! Who knew we could find peace and resolution by recognizing who our Angels are and reaching out for guidance, including being grateful for the goodness we see around us each day?

Faced with emergencies, your Angels can intercede in a New York minute.

Finding out who your Angels are is the first step. Two that are particularly important in my life are Uriel and Jophiel. I think of Uriel as the advisor who fills me with practical ideas and problem solving. Jophiel brings in beauty, and helps artists and creative people. It’s documented around seventy-eight percent of people believe in Angels, and roughly half of those say they have seen an Angel. Some ways we understand what our Angels are telling us are by clairsentience (clear feeling), clairvoyance (clear seeing), claircognizance (clear knowing), and clairaudience (clear hearing). My Angel conversations start out by expressing gratitude, and then I might ask for help in resolving a thorny issue or a decision I’m grappling with. Which way to go? How to get there? Your Angels are listening, and waiting for you to reach out to them. Vow today to take the first step toward reaching out and identifying the Angels who are meant just for you, to reap the boundless rewards of happiness.

Professional angels.

There’s a parallel there, between Angels who can counsel you and help you through challenges, and trained professionals in your everyday life who can do the same. Realtors, for instance, may not be literal Angels, but we’re faced with challenges on a daily basis. Difficult situations in a transaction can trigger almost impossible-seeming solutions. Communication is the key in reaching out to everyone involved, and coming up with practical outcomes beneficial to both buyer and seller. Professionals like realtors bring vast experience and advanced education to get through rough spots, and clients can rely on their expertise to guide them and meet their goals. As with your Angels, your initial contact can be just the beginning of a long and rewarding relationship. VISION BORED?

Create a new vision for 2019 –and make it last. Want to make a vision board? Grab a stack of magazines, a pair of scissors, some poster board, a glue stick, and start snipping and sticking. You’ll probably wind up with a mix of inspirational sayings and images of nature, with the occasional fancy car, tropical vacation, or that perfect someone blended in. Stick it up on the wall, or maybe in a corner somewhere, forget about it, and go back to doing what you always do – hoping, and not acting.

You can’t just make a vision board and wish for the best.

You have to give it some life force, to experience the unfolding of your desires. Joanna Coburn, owner of The Expressive Arts Studio, is a Certified Expressive Arts Facilitator offering four workshops throughout the year, including a Vision Boarding Workshop offered once a year. The Expressive Arts methodology combines visual arts, movement, sound, poetry, journaling, and meditation to create what she calls an Intuitive Art experience, bypassing the ego and providing a voice for the subconscious. The Vision Boards created in the workshop are very personal pieces of work, and not only help express your life’s vision, it can help you find it and identify unseen roadblocks. The reality is, like many self-exploration exercises, Vision Boards are great tools, but can bring up doubts, fears, procrastinations, and self-imposed limitations.

When that happens, run out and get yourself a counselor.

Better yet, work with one as you’re in the process of creating your vision board. The workshop includes an opportunity to visit with an intuitive counselor, who can help identify personal blocks and suggest ways to release them while in you’re in the creative process. In addition, just to ensure the juju doesn’t wear off in a few days, weeks, or months, the core meaning of the Vision Board is condensed into a personal Essence Phrase, a mantra of sorts for the upcoming year. Throughout the day, Vision Boarders have the opportunity to commemorate their word or phrase by painting it on ceramic, preserving it as a constant, daily reminder of the life you’re ready to live. The Vision Boarding Workshop, January 5, 2019, 10am-6pm. For information, and to RSVP, call (512) 656-8983, email joannacoburn@gmail.com, or see Facebook at joajoastudio
