A Letter to Our Readers
When pigs fly, we all need umbrellas. –Old Chinese Proverb
Wow, those old Chinese had a proverb for everything, huh? Stands to reason, though. They probably knew there would one day be be a thriving fortune cookie industry supplying snippets of wisdom like the one above, which is an old adage illustrating the fact that …
Oh, what the heck.
All it illustrates is to what lengths you’ll go to fill space every month – but chances are some old Chinese would have said those very words, had someone just thought to ask his opinion of flying pigs. Somebody has to make up proverbs, right? Just because you’re not old and Chinese (okay, Chinese, anyway) doesn’t disqualify you from raining down great loads of wisdom with all the enthusiasm of, say, a flying pig. Fortune cookies, btw, are American in origin, created a little over a century ago by either a Chinese tea garden groundskeeper or a Japanese restaurateur, depending on whose story you believe. Flying pigs have been with us forever – as has making up ancient wisdom, on the spot. -Michael Abedin

TO ZERO
Ho’oponopono Certification by Dr. Joe Vitale
My two most popular books, hands-down, are Zero Limits and AT Zero. Both told the incredible, true story of Dr. Hew Len, an unusual therapist who helped heal an entire ward of mentally ill criminals in a Hawaii state hospital. His method is called ho’oponopono. The four phrases of this Hawaiian healing method – I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you – are easy and practical. Just say them inside yourself while addressing your connection to the Divine. That alone works miracles. But there’s more to it. I’ve studied and practiced this method over twelve years, taught it, written about it, shared it in movies. I’ve also gone beyond it.
There are deeper ways to attract miracles.
There are more methods, phrases, tools, and techniques to help you relax into the moment and be at peace. There are more ways to clean and clear. There are other ways to awaken. What are they?
I shared them at a private event two years ago.
It was in the natural beauty of the Red Corral Ranch in Wimberley, just outside Austin in the Hill Country – and I didn’t do it alone. I had top practitioners like Austin All Natural publisher Michael Abedin speaking about Reiki, Bach flower remedies, and forgiveness, Guitar Monk Mathew Dixon supplying ho’oponopono-infused music, and energy healer, music producer, and former Buddhist monk Harry B-Happy Bartholomew performing empowerments using gongs, singing bowls, and ho’oponopono (and just about blowing the roof off the retreat center chapel). I reviewed the basic ho’oponopono process, and taught everyone advanced methods of clearing and healing, including how to use EFT and ho’oponopono, and new phrases for cleaning. I shared stories and processes that have never been revealed before, many of my own discovery. I also made sure the whole event was captured on video, so I could go back and concentrate the information and energy of the weekend into a ho’oponopono certification course for professional practitioners and therapists, and for anyone else who’s suspected there’s more to spirituality, healing, and ho’oponopono. Learn more about the program at www.HooponoponoCertification.com Dr. Joe Vitale, a star in The Secret, is a bestselling author, musician, speaker, and coach. His latest book is Anything is Possible. Boared Have you seen them?
Jules: I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy, but they’re definitely dirty. But a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way Vincent: So by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal? Is that true? Jules: Well, we’d have to be talkin’ ‘bout one charmin’ ************’ pig. I mean, he’d have to be ten times more charming than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I’m sayin’? – Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta, Pulp Fiction
Seen whom, you might ask. The little piggies, of course, crawling in the dirt. You know, the ones in George Harrison’s song on the White Album, the iconic Beatles double disc released in1968, three months after the Democratic National Convention turned into a street fight between Vietnam War protestors and the Chicago PD. Piggies was interpreted as an epithet towards police brutality in the streets of Chicago, but was actually written in 1966 as a commentary on the difference between haves (piggies in their starched white shirts, needing a damn good whacking, a line supplied by Harrison’s mum) and have-nots (the ninety-nine percent of piggies, crawling in the dirt).
N
o one’s ever accused Quentin Tarantino of subtlety, but Samuel L. Jackson’s career-making role in Pulp Fiction is a study in underplaying a badass, until Jules gets really bad, quotes Ezekiel 25:17, and hauls out Mr. NineMillimeter. The pig discussion with Vincent in the LA coffee shop? One of the best Tarantino scenes ever. According to the Chinese zodiac, though, Pigs are pretty dang charmin’, the most charming critter in the lineup when the Buddha called a meeting and twelve animals show up. The Pig, stylishly late, was last because he couldn’t pass up the occasional delectable snack along the way, being someone who enjoys the finer things in life.
The Earth Pig.
Pigs are pretty earthy to begin with, and February 5 starts an Earth Pig year of prosperity, abundance, and good fortune in all affairs, including those of the heart – a vast improvement over the ongoing bummer of 2018 (c’mon, admit it) that seemed to drag on forever, especially right there at the end. Just take a look at our February cover porker, steampunk hip in his silk suit, pink tie, dark shades. Every girl crazy ‘bout a sharp-dressed, um… Boar? The Year of the Dog, though, was wrapping in late January with a Big Bad Wolf Moon, so it probably behooves you build your house out of brick in the Piggy year. Speaking of bummers, 2020 is the Year of the Rat, as is every third presidential election year – but let’s don’t wallow in that bit of barnyard muck just yet.
8
Ah, history.
It does repeat itself, doesn’t it? Fifty years later, the one percent of piggies in their starched white shirts are still around, pot is almost legal and way better (it’s said), and we have – whoops, almost strayed off into politics, sorry. One thing hasn’t changed, especially in the era of antisocial media – spout off unpopular points of view, and you’ll get assailed from both sides of the fence. Scary stuff, the stuff of literary classics like George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where piggies take over and drive out the humans, but eventually get more human themselves, in a piggish way. Squealer, f’rinstance, becomes the pigs’ Minister of Propaganda, turning news into – yep, alternative facts, tweaking all the commandments he and his piggy masters have broken, ending in the distillation of the animal’s Seven Commandments into one.
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Sound familiar? Orwell wrote Animal Farm as a warning against totalitarianism, seventy-five years ago. Decide for yourself if that rings any barnyard bells for you today. Just don’t take too long making up your mind.

LUCKY CRYSTALS
For the Chinese New Year by Adrienne Goff
Good news! The Chinese New Year of the Earth Pig,
starting February 5, brings blessings to all twelve signs of the zodiac. 2019 is an auspicious year, since the Pig represents wealth, luck, good fortune, and lots of fun. Expect success in all spheres of life. It’s an especially great time to make financial gains and improve your love life, friendships, happiness, and health. According to Chinese astrology, certain colors are lucky in 2019 – red, pink, orange (Fire element), white and gold (Metal element). Earth element years are periodically deficient in fire and metal, so incorporate these lucky colors to attract balance and positive flow. Better yet, work with lucky crystals having the right energy and color rays to rock the Year of the Earth Pig. Red: Historically treasured as a stone of royalty and abundance, Ruby is a money magnet, drawing prosperity to you and helping you hold onto it. Love Is in the Earth Author Melody says, It has been said that as long as one retains a bit of Ruby, wealth will never depart. Ruby boosts energy
levels, health, manifestation power, passion, protection. Pink: Like Emerald, Morganite belongs to the beryl family. It’s sometimes called the Pink Emerald, helping you become more abundant in love, increasing love’s amount and quality. Work with Morganite to attract new romantic relationships or friendships, maintain and grow relationships, and connect to Divine love and spiritual realms. Orange: A stone of action and manifestation, Carnelian is a make it happen stone, motivating you to achieve financial success and make positive lifestyle changes. Carnelian resonates beautifully with the physical body, with an energizing and healing effect on all systems, boosting sensuality and passion in relationships. White: A stone of pure white light, White Jade has a calming and peaceful vibration. Prized in the East, it historically brings luck in business, love, and health, and can help overcome financial problems, attract abundance, and filter distractions, helping you focus in areas where you can be most effective and successful. White Jade increases awareness, intuition, and spiritual connection. Work with it to manifest new relationships, and enhance love in existing relationships. It has a healing, stabilizing, detoxifying effect on the body. Gold, Yellow: With a long history of use as a magnet for money and good luck, Pyrite, (aka Fool’s Gold) is often recommended in Feng Shui to assist with prosperity issues. A good placement is the wealth corner of home or office, the Southeast corner. Pyrite is one of the most effective stones for manifesting anything you truly desire. Its highly geometric nature brings thoughts and desires into greater coherency and power. Its golden ray resonates with and enhances the solar plexus chakra, and its iron content helps ground your desired outcome into personal reality. Pyrite also boosts attitude, energy levels, and confidence, helping you shine in all endeavors. Amber, a fossilized resin from ancient pine trees, embodies the warmth and life-giving qualities of the sun. Revered as medicine in many cultures throughout time, Amber was known to draw out disease, absorb and transmute negative energy, enhance mood and attractiveness, and assist with manifestation. It’s historically worn as jewelry to attract love, luck, and prosperity. Happy New Year of the Earth Pig! It’s sure to sparkle if you work with these six auspicious gems. HE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME NOT by Beth Carpenter
N
obody really knows when the game of He Loves Me, She Loves Me Not began, but it’s probably of French origin, and was popping up in cartoons as early as 1804. The original French version, however, was He (or She) Loves Me, Loves Me a Little, Loves Me a Lot, Loves Me Madly, Loves Me Not at All. Daisy was the flower of choice for plucking petals while you recited all those Love Me’s. Daisies represent purity and innocence, a flower of new beginnings and vitality, although today it leans more towards motherhood and childbirth. When I was young, I too played this game, hoping the outcome was love. So why write about it now?
This game runs you through a gamut of personal emotions.
He loves me creates excitement, with hope and expectation. She loves me not creates sadness, depression, and loss. These emotions are felt within seconds of one another – and it’s not healthy for the body, mind, or spirit to go up and down like a yo-yo. Thought forms are quite powerful, so be mindful of setting things in motion that wind up contributing to more unconscious behavior. It may sound harsh, but if you’re permitting your love and happiness to be dependent on a flower – or a person – you’re setting up your happiness to be controlled by another. Of course, I believe in love, and the years have taught me love must be present in full living and breathing color within you, not from another. When it’s within you, that’s when a truer purity and innocence can reside – with a touch of wisdom. Many years ago, Ellen Wilcox Wheeler wrote a beautiful and profound poem titled Thoughts are Things. You never can tell what a thought will do In bringing you hate or love For thoughts are things, and their airy wings Are swifter than carrier doves They follow the law of the Universe Each thing creates its kind They speed o’er the track to bring you back Whatever went out of your mind
Not many play the game of plucking petals off a flower anymore.
We still find other ways to let our minds run off into obsessive, OCD-like craziness, though. Rein it in, make it okay, and challenge your self to love self, as well as others, more. The rewards will be like winning the lotto, instead of like holding a poor, bare flower with no more petals. (Oh, and one more thing. If emotions feel too raw and horrific, consider adding tarragon essential oil to a diffuser, or a dab it on the wrist, and take some long, slow deep breaths. Why? Tarragon heals trauma.) Here’s to loving and living more. Beth Carpenter is an Austin Naturopathic practitioner, Medical Intuitive, and Pranic Healer with over twenty years experience in the natural healing arts, and with clairvoyant and healing gifts that are angelically guided. (512) 707-9886, www.HealthyHelp4U.com
This is one of my favorite poems
It keeps me mindful of what I send out into the world – my world. Mastering the art of living and being unconditionally loving is a life-long journey, one well worth the effort. With love in our hearts, we see all things first through love. Tragic events are handled better because grace enfolds us, and the happiest of times become magnified, filling our world with eternal beauty.

A RELATIONSHIP CHEAT SHEET
Seven Steps for Fighting and Other Tools, from a Change Artist
By Justin Bustamante
Often as not, when you hear the
word relationship, you think of the intimate kind you have with your spouse or significant other, not relationships with co-workers, friends, and acquaintances. Sooner or later, though, you realize the old adage really does hold true – sometimes it’s who you know, not what you know, that gets you where you want to go. That can get you to start looking at ways to improve communication with others. As a Change Artist, the work I do is built on relationships, and learning how to build a strong, working connection with people. Here’s a cheat sheet to use as a guide to help you see where you can improve. Feel good. Ever been around a person who’s just fun to be around, who always seems to be in a good mood, and you feel better when you’re around them? You’re not the only one. People like being around people who make them feel good. Be that person, even if it takes some work on your part. Make them feel good. See the best side of them and encourage it. This picks up where the first leaves off – but here’s an important point. While this can be easily done and remembered for someone you’re just meeting, when you get comfortable in a relationship with someone you tend to forget this, and things go from Hey, you’re good at that! You should do that more often, to Why are you doing that way? Get it right! Spot the difference? Be very mindful of this one.
Be forgiving. Everyone makes mistakes, but no one likes to be held to something they did some time ago. This one is another one that sounds simple, but often gets lost in the sauce. The golden rule is the perfect thing to remember when you feel you can’t forgive – treat them the way you want to be treated. Build trust. Make sure you’re someone people can count on. Trust should be self-explanatory, but gets missed in the tiniest of ways. If you give someone your word, you want to go out of your way to keep it – if not, let them know, with enough time, you won’t be able to fulfill the request. It seems small, but if it goes unnoticed enough times it can start to break down a relationship.
A bonus.
Here are 7 Steps for Fighting in any relationship, to help keep the peace (and the relationship) intact. Find your state. Remember, the mental state you’re in will dictate your behavior, so be mindful of the state your mind (and body) is in. Learn to release. Let go of negative emotions you’re now aware of from step one, through breathing exercises, counting, or any other method you’ve learned, as long as it works and releases the emotion from your system. Avoid relationship killers. Common ones are namecalling, blaming and accusing, and assuming you know why they did what they did. Don’t project your behavior onto them. Pretty much self-explanatory. Set boundaries. Soft boundaries, and hard ones, help you remember to separate the person from the behavior, avoiding escalation. Test. Check with them, and yourself, to make sure things are cleared up. If so… Smile and move on. Design your own life with hypnotherapist and coach Justin Bustamante, the Change Artist. Visit Justin The Change Artist on Facebook for an in-depth look into the 7 Steps for Fighting with Janie, The Mindfulness Coach. (210) 763-0396, www.JustinTheChangeArtist.com

HOW TO SAY I LOVE YOU by Dephanie Cates
F
ebruary comes at the perfect time. You’ve gotten through the holidays, the must-dos and to-dos, and can turn inward to personal feelings. Who am I? How do I fit? What do I want in this new year? Before settling on any substantive new pathways, take ten deep breaths, hourly if necessary, to keep stress or panicrelated fear out. After all, you’ve been here many times – but this year can be different. One February delight is the excuse to be carefree, happy, even joyful, in recognizing those who play huge roles in your everyday life – those folks who are always there for you at work, at play, and, most importantly, at home. Valentines’ Day is an amazing opportunity to boost those around you who really care, make an effort to include you, think of you when you least expect it – and do it with a very simple act.
The element of surprise has an amazing effect.
When someone sees and feels your recognition, unexpectedly, it brightens their day so many ways. The really good news, though, is what this simple act of remembering them does for you. Not only will your days brighten, they’ll also lighten. The effect on your brain will blow your mind. At a time of year when everyone else is hunkering down with thoughts, ideas, and plans to make this year their best ever, you’ve stepped outside yourself. You’ve affirmed someone’s existence, their place in the world, and nothing more than this simple act of kindness will tell them they matter, and have meaning in their life – and yours.
There are many ways to show your love this time of year.
Flowers aren’t expected as much as they once were, but still make a big impression. Chocolates in a heart-shaped box are also still over-the-top delightful, and the greeting card industry provides easy packages of appropriate messages. Whatever your budget permits, it will be the best money you can spend. Phone calls are also nice. Maybe a distant relative you’ve lost touch with, or an elderly friend, has moved to assisted living, or even hospice. Think of your life and its evolution – we all pass through the many stages. To honor a partner or spouse, try these suggestions that won’t cost you a penny: Enjoy a comedy TV rerun together, or a silly romantic comedy, and make laughter a priority. Make time to cuddle – often. Tell them how much you appreciate their kindness when they do something for you, no matter how small.
in your family’s life. There are many parts in the process to grapple and understand – forms, terms, deadlines, restrictions, inspections, approvals. Getting pre-approval for a purchase is a financial stress on the whole family. It’s paramount to have an experienced Realtor by your side with lender relationships, inspectors, building contractors, and service contractors, and the knowledge and longevity in the industry to guide you through the process to an over-the-top successful closing. It isn’t flowers, a card, and a box of chocolates, but it’s a set of decisions that can keep a relationship happy – when you do it properly. Dephanie Cates is a licensed Realtor and Reconnective Healing practitioner combining coaching skills, intuition, and business acumen to create personal relationships with real estate clients, and apply those skills, and her experience as a businessperson, as a Personal and Business Coach. HOLISTIC FITNESS The Whole Enchilada
by Michael Abedin
Or…
How about accomplishing all the above in one class – one flowing smoothly from a thirty-minute fitness routine for lean muscle, stamina, and weight loss, to a twenty-minute yoga practice to cool off, increase flexibility and deepen connection between mind and body, finishing with a ten-minute meditation to relax and put aside stress and anxiety? Oh, and how about all of it with the same professional instructor, trained in all the disciplines being taught? Moving smoothly from one regimen to the next has a lot of advantages over the scattershot approach of trying to squeeze in different classes, instructors, and workout routines in different locations. If it’s a big-box gym, you can be lost in the crowd, not always sure from one production-line session to the next if you’ll have the same trainer or instructor. Instructors, in fact, can get tunnel-visioned into whatever they’re teaching – the fitness trainer on Monday won’t be likely to be a yoga teacher, the yoga teacher on Tuesday isn’t likely to be well-versed in circuit training for strength and weight loss. (Both, in fact, may be disdainful of anything not included in their area of expertise.)
The holistic enchilada..
An inclusive class probably takes less time than getting from Point A to B if you try the bank shot approach, bouncing from gym to yoga school to whatever quiet place you try to meditate. There’s a word for something encompassing all aspects of your whole being, blending it into a synergistic flow in which the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts. training for strength and weight loss, yoga for flexibility and pain relief, and meditation for relaxation and stress relief? Try this regimen on for size. • Morning: Drive across town to a gym for some time on fitness equipment, drive home or to work and start doing a bunch of other stuff, cool off from your workout, stiffen up. • Afternoon: Decide you need to stretch back out, drive across town again for yoga class. • Evening: Stressed out from driving all over town, fold yourself into a half-lotus, try to meditate by yourself in whatever bit of peace and quiet you find in your home. Get distracted thinking about driving all over town tomorrow to your next round of workouts and classes, assuming you can squeeze all that in around jobs and kids and such.

An informational event on how we are transforming lives and saving the world.
Ask someone what that means and you’ll usually get answers vaguely related to natural health. Truth is, holistic means just what it sounds like – all the tasty stuff, wrapped up in the whole enchilada. The end result, when you apply such a system to yourself? The health of your whole being – body, mind, and spirit, to trot out a cliché.
In fitness, though, it’s not a cliché.
Yogis and martial artists have known this for millennia, and Pree Poonati applies it daily in Nirvanic Workout Classes at at Nirvana Gym. “We start with a fitness routine using HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training, incorporating calisthenics, plyometrics for quick, explosive power, cardio, and resistance training, followed by a fusion of hatha, vinyasa, restorative, and raja yoga, and finish with breath-guided meditation to improve concentration and relieve stress and distractions.” Nirvana also offers nutritional counseling and programs to feed the process – but, sorry, no holistic enchiladas. Nirvana Gym, customized private and group instruction. (512) 521-8173, www.nirvanagym.com
BREAK YOUR
DROUGHT Dehydration and Inflammation Every seven and a half seconds someone turns fifty, making Baby Boomers one of the fastest growing segments of the population. As we age, we can have significant health issues, from wrinkles, joint pain, and memory loss to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. These health issues all have things in common – dehydration, inflammation, and oxidation. – Dr. Peggy Parker, Turning Back the Hands of Time
S
omeone turning fifty every seven and a half seconds sounds like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, one of the numerous holidays in a month with only twenty-eight days. (Twenty-nine counting Leap Year Day, which adds another holiday.) If you feel like that person, here are some things to consider.
Inflammation.
Inflammation, as the name implies, involves heat. It’s how your body deals with bacteria, viruses, and other nasty invaders – burn those suckers out by turning everything red-hot. Unfortunately, inflammation is a double-edged sword, a solution to and a cause of disease, implicated by medical research in everything from heart disease to digestive problems to mental and emotional disorders – many researchers see it as the main tipping point between health and illness. So how do you put a fire out? Stop, drop, and roll is okay if your clothes are on fire, but when your immune system has decided it’s time to inflame your cells, there’s a better solution.
Pour some water on the flames.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the element of Water destroys Fire. It’s not only a healing metaphor, though, it’s a literal thing – water will put out a fire. Thing is, inflammation requires a specific kind of water to do the job without getting everything rusty – oxidized. Disease is a perfect storm of positively charged electrons, and it’s going to take a negative charge to neutralize them and make sure the inflammatory fire isn’t going to pop up somewhere else. Negatively charged alkaline water is not only a sprinkler system for your body when it’s on fire, it’s an inflammation prevention system, countering positively charged free radicals, keeping you in good health The bottom line? Let your body get dehydrated and you’re in a state of drought, as much a target of inflammation as a rain-starved forest. Break the drought – with the right kind of water. For more information – and free water – call Marge Captain, a hydration specialist in alkaline antioxidant water. (512) 627-3585 or (512) 415-7669.

Play Your Cards Right by Lane Sebring, M.D.
T
How to detox your diet – and your digestive system
his probably isn’t the first article you’ve read regarding the toxicity of the modern American diet. Instead of going on about monosodium glutamate, trans fats, sugar, and aspartame, here’s some information on how you can help your body deal with these toxins.
Know when to fold ‘em.
I once read a book on how to win at poker. The first rule it gave was, Don’t play with people better than you. Applying that remarkably simple and sound wisdom to your health would, of course, lead you to avoid the toxins in the first place. Consider these strategies: • Pack a lunch. • Buy organic food when possible. • Seriously consider planting your own vegetable garden. Eat them fresh whenever possible, and freeze the rest. (You may also want to learn canning.) Buy free-range chicken, and here’s a no-brainer. (Go ahead and skip to the next part if you’re a vegetarian.) Consider buying a calf from a local rancher. Many of them will sell a year-old calf that’s never eaten anything other than mother’s milk and grass. Most of them, for little extra, will deliver the calf to a butcher they trust. Tell the butcher you want it aged for about two weeks, and how you want it cut up in terms of steaks, roasts, ribs, ground beef, and the liver, if you want it. This will probably cost you around $850 to $1000, but should provide from 350 to 425 pounds of beef. (Do the math.) When you go to the grocery store, go to the fruits and vegetables first, and buy three to four days worth, if you can shop that often. Then go to the nuts and the meats, and go home. The rest of that stuff is toxic.
How to pass.
Now, how do you help the body deal with toxic food? The first is to take a probiotic, a pill that provides good bacteria for the intestinal track. This good bacteria (acidophilus) will help in many ways. The first, and maybe most important, thing it will do is kill a large portion of the toxic bacteria in the intestinal tract. Toxic bacteria, as the name implies, can be a continuous source of toxins that are then fed to the body. This toxic insult to the body has a profound negative effect on the liver – which is, of course, the big detoxifier for the body. All toxins coming into the body through the intestinal wall are then transported to the liver for detoxification. If the level of toxins the liver has to deal with is multiplied several times because of overgrowth of toxic bacteria in the intestine, then it’s less able to handle those toxins in your food. Any time you can decrease the unnecessary workload on the liver, it can spend more time catching up on its task of detoxifying the rest of the body. Good bacteria line the intestinal tract like Velcro, attaching to receptors your body provides for it. In turn, the good bacteria will actually provide butyrate, a fat, that is the preferred source of energy for the cells that make up the lining of your intestine.
16
The good bacteria will help heal up microscopic cracks that develop in the intestinal wall, and kill yeast and bad bacteria keeping the lining of your intestinal tract inflamed and leaky to toxins, and act as a detoxifier, digesting away many of the toxins found in food and produced by toxic bacteria. There are electron micrographs showing good bacteria lining the intestinal track up to two-hundred cells deep, which is how something found in the body at 1x10 to the eighth power can protect you from something found at 1x10 to the fourteenth. Digestive enzymes, taken in capsule form with each meal, can not only help you digest your food better, but will help digest toxins into less harmful molecules. The added advantage of more efficient digestion of food is that it will be absorbed earlier in the small intestine, and not carried further down to provide nutrition for toxic bacteria found further downstream.
Some simple rules.
A yearly liver detoxification is good advice for all modern humans. Not only will it help deliver detoxify the toxins found in food, but also the creams, lotions, shampoos, soaps, and perfumes we smear on our skin, and those we inhale from our toxic environment. The best liver cleanses work by providing the liver with what it uses to detoxify. Practitioners educated in this regard can provide guidance as to specific products designed for this purpose. Some may advise different degrees of fasting when doing a liver detox, but keep in mind it takes energy for the liver to detoxify, and that energy is best supplied in the form of organic food, fully digested by utilizing digestive enzymes. Remember these simple rules. Don’t play poker with people who are better than you, but if you do, hedge your bets. Take a good probiotic for the intestinal tract, take digestive enzymes with each meal, do a yearly liver detox – and never bet the farm on filling an inside straight. LOVE, CONNECTION, ATTACHMENT by Christina Allen Love. It’s everywhere! It’s in the air, the birds, the bees, the trees. It’s the wind riffling through your hair, the rain falling gently on your face. A vast and infinite reserve of care, delight, and support, love is the essence from whence all Creation comes. And yet, we tend to think we can’t have it unless another agrees to give it to us. This leads us into scarcity, into dark alleys of soul-numbing negotiations for connection, and into mistaking our attachments to others for love.
parts of yourself you’ve learned to loathe, and allowing them to be loved. The work is in unearthing these monsters you’ve buried. Relationships are great for mirroring them to us. What our significant other seemingly dislikes in us, we usually most dislike about ourselves. When we accept these un-owned parts with compassion, as a mother loves her “ugly” child unconditionally, we find we’re actually lovable. Doors open, and others can love us too.
Many people block love, because it makes them feel unsafe.
Misguided notions and unhealthy attachments.
You can bring wheelbarrows of it to their doorsteps, and they will continue to bemoan their barren existences, never recognizing that they’ve created this dearth themselves by shutting it down. The real work starts inside. If you’re blocking a connection to love because people you have loved in the past have harmed you, or extracted an unbearable cost from you for it, start with connecting to something safe. Nature loves all her children, with no exceptions, and asks nothing in return. Try sending a pulse of goodness out to a tree, for example, and wait. She will respond in kind – but it’s up to you to open up and let it in. Love is there for the taking. Many of us blunder around feeling cut off and unloved until we “find someone,” but still may not experience it when we do. Feeling dark and undeserving, we can’t let it in. Or perhaps, because we believe ourselves to be unlovable, we choose a person who, through their own feelings of inadequacy, reflects this by withholding their love from us.
Either way, we find ourselves making deals.
I will give you my power, beauty, money, body, or whatever, if you will just love me. We believe without this person, we will be unloved and forever alone. Love, however, is everywhere and doesn’t cost a thing. It comes through our openness to receiving it, not through the whims of another. If you block love because you feel you’re unlovable, there’s work to do here, too. You cannot be loved by another if you don’t love yourself first. This means coming to terms with the
18
Finally, people stay in unhealthy relationships through the misguided notion that their attachment to them is love. Attachments mean we’re holding onto someone we’ve felt love come through, not love itself. The loss we feel through rejection, or when someone leaves us or dies, is the loss of their person, security, habits, and familiarity – but it’s not the loss of love. They may disappear, but the essence of love is still there, even when we’re alone. It comes from beyond the physicality of beings, and it transcends space and time. The Q’ero Indians of Peru call it Munay. Call it what you will, our job is in staying connected to it. When the connection to this source energy is maintained, there is no scarcity, no reason to feel jealous or fear abandonment. The work is in allowing it to flow to you, through you, and from you, effortlessly, like breath cycling soulfully through a bass saxophone. It’s in establishing a connection to an essence that exists everywhere that we find love, however, and not by holding on to a saxophone. Try it. Christina Allen, Shamanic Healer, teacher, founder and director of the Austin Shamanic Center, combines a strong science background (BA Physics, MS Neuroscience) with decades of applied ancient spiritual wisdom as a Master Yogi, Reiki Master, and Shamanic Healer, based, in part, on Q’ero Indian traditions of Peru. Dear Ashtara:
Messages from Your Angels and Master Teachers Dear Ashtara, I feel that my body does not come close to any kind of highest form. What do you see for my future in terms of spiritual and bodily transformation in this life, or the next? I’m thirteen in Earth year,s and my mom says I should just be patient. Thank you so much, Transforming.
the procedure. After you recover, you will begin to be very mindful. Therefore, your life should shift in a great way. Take heed, and begin a new career. We wish it were computer things, even computer graphics. Ashtar and his Command are there with you. Gabriel is your first angel.
Dear Transforming, When in puberty, everyone’s bodies mature. By the time you are nineteen, you will have grown as tall as you will grow, and you will begin to excel in a lot of things. Your mom is right, just wait until it happens. Your angels are Michael and Gabriel, and your highest teacher right now is Racuzzi, one of the highest teachers from the other side. Master Teachers change as we get older.
Dear Ashtara, God’s Universe is so vast and amazing, I sense humans cannot be the single existing planetary life force. When will we be allowed to meet our Intergalactic brothers and sisters? What is holding this back? Stella, 30, Georgetown, TX
Dear Ashtara, I’ve been married for a long time to a good man, but I don’t feel we are well suited for each other. Now that our children are older, is it time for me to move on? Will I ever find relationship happiness? Samantha, 48, Austin, TX Dear Samantha, A lot of people decide after they’ve been married for quite a while to get a divorce, and hopefully remarry to someone they have fun with again. When you make a decision to move on, ask yourself some questions. Do I have enough income to support myself? Can I handle another relationship? And then what do I have to give? How can I change myself? When people change, usually, the people around them shift, sometimes in a dramatic way. God is with you, as your great Light Above.
Dear Ashtara, Is my hysteroscopy procedure going to be successful? Jan, 39, Austin, TX Dear Jan, Yes, it will be successful, easy, and a little difficult to carry on as usual for a month. So, please take it easy. Let others drive if you can. And remember, Ashtar, Sandalfon, Uriel, and Jesus will be there, overseeing
20
Dear Stella, Where have you been? Do you not fully realize that most of us metaphysicians have been locked up with our unseen teachers for over forty years? Soon, everyone on the planet will be doing the same, I assure you. For myself, Ashtara, twenty-two years ago, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to me. God and Gabriel started talking to me conversationally 24/7, and they and many others have never stopped. First, they begin speaking within our minds, and the very next stage of evolution is to see them. What a great time we are living in. It is the beginning of the New Human, developing a New Civilization. If people are not getting information, it’s just not quite their time. However, almost everyone on the planet, as of a few years ago, has heard messages in their minds, including you, our angel. Presently, Gabriel is your angel and Ashtar and his command your highest teachers. Submit your question for ‘Dear Ashtara’ via email: Ashtara@SashaWhite.com or call (512) 278-0559 and give your question (up to 30 words) with name or nickname, age, city, and state. Private Sessions can be scheduled (in person or by phone). Questions answered and more. Ashtara Sasha White is a gifted psychic, profound healer, and channel from the Ascended Masters/ Archangels. She is also a Reiki Master Teacher, Seichim Reiki Master Teacher, Sound Current Healing Master Teacher, Embodiment Master Teacher, and Teacher of the Light. Splendor Solis The World’s Most Famous Alchemical Manuscript
A new, illustrated edition by Stephen Skinner If someone is unable to accomplish something in the Art of the Philosopher’s Stone, it were better for him not to throw himself into it at all than to attempt it partially. – Alphidius, ancient sage
A
lchemy has been a subject of wonder and mystery throughout history. As Alphidius’ Indiana Jones-ish warning points out, though, it’s not for the faint of heart. The Splendor Solis (Splendor of the Sun) is the most magnificent treatise on alchemy ever made, inspiring writers, philosophers, historians, academics, and spiritual thinkers around the world. It was created in 1582, although nobody is sure by whom, adding to the mystery of alchemy.
The legendary Philosopher’s Stone.
The quest for it is at alchemy’s core. According to the manuscript’s description, it could immediately cure paralysis, dropsy, leprosy, jaundice, palpitation, colic, fever, palsy, and many other diseases within and without the body. Those others included unhealthy stomach, rheumatism, melancholy, eye diseases, and problems with the heart, teeth, hearing, lame limbs, cancers, abscesses, and ulcers. It makes human beings joyous and young, rejuvenated inside and outside – for it is a medicine above all the medicines of Hippocrates, Galen, Constantine, Alexander and Avicenna, and of other learned physicians. That last is a dig directed at the big shots pf medicine to that day, since the Stone was central to the medical model of Paracelsus, a Swiss physician, alchemist, astrologer, and pioneer in the medical revolution of the Renaissance. The Stone was also said to make glass malleable and turn common rocks into precious gems, but had one property that, rightly or wrongly, has become what you usually think of when you hear the term alchemy.
It turns other metals into gold.
The premise here was if gold was created from the earth anyway, the process could be duplicated. Whether that was a literal formula or a metaphor for spiritual development, alchemy is to chemistry and medicine what astrology is to astronomy and physics – a distinguished ancestor, still worthy of respect and study.
22
The new edition includes commentary from experts, a modern translation, and images reproduced from the finest example of the Splendor Solis to survive, the British Library manuscript. Dr. Stephen Skinner is an expert in both alchemy and fifteenth and sixteenth-century grimoires, having edited some of the last remaining physical alchemist texts. Available at Amazon.com
TOUCH HUNGER
Excerpted from Somebody Hold Me: The Single Person’s Guide to Nurturing Human Touch by Epiphany Jordan
Who is this book for?
If you’re a person who isn’t getting their touch needs met in the current “standard” way – through a romantic or sexual relationship – this book is for you. If you’ve been told you’re too intense, too old, too ugly, too fat, too crazy, too broke, too annoying, too weird, too depressed, or too disabled to have anyone fall in love with you, this book is for you. If your inbox is filled with offers of sex, but you’ve discovered none of your hookups want to snuggle afterwards, this book is for you. If you’ve been friend-zoned more times than you’ve been on a date, this book is for you. If you can’t remember the last time someone other than your doctor or hairdresser touched you, this book is for you. If you’re recovering from trauma, feel distrustful of others, and don’t know if you can handle the emotional and physical intimacy of sex, this book is for you. If you’re recently divorced and don’t miss your spouse leaving the lid off the toothpaste, but sure as hell miss sleeping in the same bed, this book is for you. If you wonder what all the fuss is about when people talk about sex, but enjoy tenderness, touch, and comfort, this book is for you. If you have adult children and crave times when your offspring’s bodies snuggled into yours for warmth and comfort, this book is for you. If you have a fantastic circle of friends, yet don’t interact with them other than the occasional hug, and you want more physical contact, this book is definitely for you. Dating in the 21st century is a pain in the ass. I hear it from all my single friends. It sucks in different ways for men and women, but it sucks nonetheless. It’s exponentially harder for those who don’t identify as cisgender or heterosexual. “What’s wrong with me that I can’t find a partner?” is a common question. Nothing’s wrong with you – it’s hard for everybody.
How do you know if you’re suffering from Touch Hunger?
Touch hunger – the craving for human contact – looks a bit different for every person. You may know you suffer from lack of touch, or perhaps you know something is missing, but you don’t realize what it is. You drum your fingers, tap your toes, touch your face, twirl your hair, but still.... you’re restless. Exercise, yoga, meditation, or dancing can get you out of your head for a bit, but it’s challenging to stay focused, and you often find yourself watching the clock. You may have one or more of the following symptoms: You don’t sleep well. You’re distrustful of people.
The First Book that Teaches You How to Get Your Touch Needs Met When You Aren’t in a Romantic Relationship

You have little to no physical contact with others. You’re jumpy and easily startled. You’re depressed, or anxious You feel disconnected, or lonely. You can’t remember the last time you had a good, long hug. Your body is tense.
The missing connection.
Perhaps your missing connection is human contact, via nurturing human touch. Epiphany Jordan is the author of Somebody Hold Me: The Single Person’s Guide to Nurturing Human Touch and the founder of Karuna Sessions. She’s available for sessions, coaching or speaking to your group about platonic touch. See her at SXSW in March, or visit her online at www.NurturingHumanTouch.com
