Mount Vernon Case Study
Tasked with developing an understanding of the the Mt. Vernon neighborhood in Baltimore. In t research on four broad dimensions of context, community
e context in which we will be working in, this part of the project will focus our Architecture, environment, history and
Architectural styles
Charter & Texture Older buildings have strong corners and material changes are abrupt but balanced. Small changes of texture, scale and shape create heavy bases and human scale proportions with regard to material choices.
Datums When different heighted buildings meet there is still an effort to continue the rhythm of smaller buildings but add texture and balance to the facade. Vertical planes are highly emphasized here.
Topography Topography in the mount Vernon has changes thought the entiwre site due to the change in elecvation
Green spaces Mount Vernon Square Park has four green spaces adjacent to the monument. While other spaces as set back spaces in front of buildings are vegetative areas for the building on the lot.
Environment
Plants Affected by weather The USDA plant hardiness zone map determines how much plants have to endure during winter. The map tells the average annual extreme winter temperature data over 30-years to create growing zones in 10-degree F. increments.
Plants Affected by weather Baltimore, Maryland is considered a humid subtropical climate zone. A subtropical climate zone experiences hot and humid summers, but also experiences mild winters.
